[Destructoid] Leaked photo of NX controller?

Seems like a fairly well-done fake to me.

If it ends up being real, I'll wait to try it and hear impressions before I judge it.

All they had to do was move the stick a little to the left and it could have been a somewhat regular controller.

They over engineered that thing.

It's incredibly disheartening to know so many people feel this way when I fell in love with the design after seeing the leak on another site.

Now if the real controller looks even remotely like this I know people are going to riot when I want it to be similar to this

Same
It doesn't look interesting or comfortable to me, just seems silly and gimicky which isn't what I want games to be based around like with the Wii U controller. Maybe a DS4 with a screen in place of the touchpad would be more useful, but not this. Now I'm holding out hope that the handheld is as good as it's predecessors.

I mean

I didn't think there was any way in hell even a working prototype would actually look kinda like that wacky ass patent

I mean

It's a controller with no physical buttons at the same time it's a screen with fucking sticks in the way you have to hit touch buttons on blocking even more of it

It literally can't do either one of it's jobs as well as if it had been two things

That's not how you make a good hybrid anything

Here's hoping this is fake or homebrew or something
Unless ET is real and has access to Nintendo Devkits, I think it's safe to assume this is fake.

Please let this be real.

Please let this be the hardware that flops so hard they withdraw from the hardware game and go third party.

Please.

Seriously though, I agree. They need to just go third party. They've sucked at hardware since...well...the SNES is the only flawless console they have ever come out with.

I like it. I hope its real. We need to get back to the 90s when game platform holders actually tried to be different from each other, not just copy the other so EA can not bother making defining games for the platforms.

Would people want this over a vita with a bigger screen that stops at the buttons/sticks?

I don't see the point of having the screen extend to where your hand covers.

I agree with your point about a bigger screen but, I don't really see the screen as shown as a negative. If the developer wants the player to focus on something then they will place it in the center part of the screen. Anything covered by your hands or on the edges of the screen will be for 'immersion'. I know it's a gimmicks but it could be pretty cool.

Oh it's real. And it's going to be so successful that it makes Microsoft withdraw from the hardware game and go third party.

Hah, that's cute. As if Microsoft would actually go third party and not just axe it's gaming division in it's entirety out of the blue.

Those sticks are like nothing I've seen before -- people compare it to the vita and 3ds but it definitely looks different from that. It has more elevation.

I'm not sold on it, fake or not. Having said that, I'll keep an open mind. I think this being shown around GDC is a bit fishy, I don't think a developer would leak this type of sensitive data and I think nintendo would have had more means to protect themselves from this kind of leak (by having a prototype pattern on the controller shell, much like what Xbox did with their original dev kits.)

doubtful thats real , damn weird looking.

Of course it does match that weird patent but still , 95% fake.

doesnt look comfortable either but ill reserve judgement until we know

I wouldn't mind if they did a similar design but with 4 clickable buttons, 4 shoulder buttons, 2 triggers and dual sticks as well as gyro control, audio and rumble. Also add handles to better grip the controller. I think that would still allow them to get the same effect across while giving gamers a better experience.

Here's a quick mock-up I did for the few people who said they could see people playing CoD on this.

Can somebody show me where they would put the emulated buttons for LB, RB, the D-Pad, and the face buttons?

How would you hold it?

How would you see what you're doing?

How would you make it not clustered but also big enough to click, a problem iOS and android has in emulation.
It's fake guys, look at the sticks...clearly photoshopped onto that.
Yeah opened the .png in photoshop for the full size and that analog stick looks scaled inward and rotated a bit.

We've had this conversation about competition so many times here.

Okay...? So you want Nintendo to fail/retract from the hardware business so you need to only buy two consoles? You don't like the designs so fuck anybody else that does?

I mean I understand disliking a direction a company is going with choices and voicing said opinion. But actively hoping a company fucks up so bad they get out of the business is pretty shitty.

EDIT: Not necessarily saying you're insinuating what I am saying, but I don't understand the opinions of hoping Nintendo flops out.
