Wow, this OT is kinda deserted.
I impulse bought the game yesterday, and I just had a few stray thoughts. I stopped on the first real battle after the tutorial fight.
- First and foremost, everything feels really sharp in this game compared to Overclocked. The character portraits have improved, the battle models are more dynamic and above all else, the soundtrack audio is much higher quality. I loved OC's soundtrack, but it still felt like it was somewhere between NDS and 3DS still; RB's feels like a 3DS game. I had a tougher time getting into OC for this reason almost exclusively, just because while it was good it was a bit jarring.
- On that note, I really love the soundtrack so far. There are some points where I just linger on a screen for a few seconds longer than I have to to get some of that ambiance.
- Really digging the character designs, but then I really dug them in OC.
- Story still kind of feels like it has one foot in Persona-land, but that's fine all things considered. I find the story as engaging as the last one for the short time I've played.
- I honestly didn't realize it until people on here pointed it out, but man, the boob dimensions/placement are weird as hell in this game.
Really struggling.
Still Day 1 at what I'm guessing is a battle where I get another playable person. Without doing any free battles the enemies I'm seeing are way too strong for me.
Then I try a free battle and all it is is some hellish circle jerk of healing by enemies I can't get to and the 100% crit chance for one attack skill bursting me down before I even have a chance to react.
I'm playing on easy so I can enjoy the game and not be frustrated. I figured I'd hit a wall but it's the 3rd battle of the game and I'm already frustrated that enemies are level 6 with almost a full wall of skills and I'm level 4 with Agi.
Also this is not my first SMT game. I just don't feel like struggling at the start of the game.
I haven't gotten too far into this one, but that was Overclocked in a nutshell. Free battles are tough at first, but it's because the player isn't really used to the gameplay just yet. DeSu requires a bit more strategy than the other SMT games normally would. Of course, I'd always recommend going back and fusing some new demons like in any SMT, but you probably don't have much in the way of macca or demons to begin with. You just need to muscle through the free battles, but the good news is you'll probably only have to do one or two since your exp will scale down once you're at the level you should be at.
Actually, I know this is going to sound cheap, but if you really want to progress without too much more trouble, maybe you should try that Beginner's Brawl DLC. It's free and sounds like it might be helpful.
