Well, that's what they get for not calling it SMTIV.
Oh god, what have I done.

Actually, didn't it do fairly well in Japan? Not Persona "well", of course.

No. It bombed, and bombed hard.

It had a pretty good first week and then completely dropped off if I'm not mistaken.

Was it because of supply as I remember some people saying or did the Japanese just not care?

Mostly supply, but I don't think core SMT has held up particularly well in terms of popularity.

The sci-fi(re: not cyberpunk) setting probably didn't help much in terms of winning over the core fans. It's a great game, but I don't think it deserves the IV moniker. Save that for a new console game.

Well, I got my copy. Unfortunately had a lot to do tonight so I won't be able to spend any quality time with it yet. So I may as well start tomorrow. Still, I'm just happy I have a copy. Word to the wise - never wait too long to pick up an SMT title. Even though I'm sure this will be available for a while. But I don't like to take chances.

I seriously have no clue if I should buy this now or wait out for the eventual sale :p I normally don't mind spending money to support devs/buy games day one but damn if this employer could just contact me back about my job I'd buy this in a heartbeat.

Picked up my copy today. I wasnt sure if I wanted to get it after all but I need something to hold me over till Xenoblade comes in. So far im loving it.

Apparently has a small print run. get it before it's too late.

One slightly humorous note, I just opened my copy and immediately saw the cartridge on the left side of the box, and the instructions upside down, on the right. Even though I had opened it with the cover art right side up, everything else was backwards. I thought for a moment I had an ultra rare backwards printed box, but no - the cover art was merely inserted upside down. Still, kind of weird it shipped like that.

Sort of kind of related to this: I thought the box felt really heavy. Like surprisingly heavy, even though someone mentioned in here that it had a 70+ page manual, and the side was bulging out quite a bit. I assumed that the manual was really just massive. When I got home and opened it, it turns out that since I got the gutted copy, the cartridge was kept in an envelope behind the counter. And when he gave me the game, the employee, instead of just taking the game out and putting it in the box, he folded the envelope into quarters with the game still inside and shoved the whole thing into the box.

Somehow I didn't catch it while he was doing it, I must have been swiping my card or something. I thought it was pretty weird, although I haven't shopped at GS for a few years, so I guess it could be standard practice. I really hope Target carries Bit.Trip.Saga so I don't have to go back next month.

As someone who never touched a lick of the original game, I am so far blown away. Character portraits are very crisp and beautiful and the voice acting has so far been impressive. The lack of 3D doesn't really bother me that much since we still got some neat additions to the game. I'm really not big on SRPGs, so I hope I can wrap my head around the battle system and at least enjoy it.

I've recently been playing the original DS Devil Survivor. I didn't have any problems with all of the fights (even the escorting missions weren't that bad). Now I have reached the last battle and find out that my demons are way under leveled and i don't even have enough macca to get new ones. meh... =(

I really do hope that i have the nerve to get back to it because i really want to see the ending
and not some youtube video of it
.
Overall i enjoyed this game a lot and i hope everybody else will too.

I only borrowed the original from a friend but returned it since I was busy at the time, today I got an email that amazon shipped my copy, the recent onslaught of games has made me forget I pre-ordered it.

I did love what I played of the first, so with improved graphics, and hopefully higher quality music? Plus the monster compendium, it should be good.

I got the last copy at the GameStop down the street. Didn't ask how many they got in so I'm not sure how big a deal that is. Unfortunately that means I got the gutted store display copy, which sort of sucks, but at least it just came out today so it's not like the box has been sitting out for days and the employees have taken the game home.

I've kind of of two minds about whether I'm going to look at this thread anymore while playing the game. I typically go for a high strength and defense tank type with my main character in RPGs if I have the choice, so I'm kind of glad that I read that doing that would have screwed me, but on the other hand it kind of sucks not playing the way I want to.

And now I'm reading that you aren't guaranteed the extra content at the end, which I had no idea of. I really don't want to have to play the game with a FAQ to make sure I get to see the Eighth Day.

It is cool that there's three different versions of the Eighth Day, which I also didn't know (although I'm guessing that that means that they're each pretty shorty), but it would have been nice if you were guaranteed one. Granted, having not played the game I have no idea what the story is like and it sounds like it makes sense that only some choices give you the end-game content. Still, it's going to suck playing through the game making the choices I would normally and hoping that I get lucky.

If you got the gutted copy that means they had one copy left. Hmm... Maybe I'll grab it today.

Achievement/Title: Finish the game with no Free Battles.

Anyone going for this on their first run? lol

Damn, already did the first one that popped up because there was a few things I wasn`t sure about the battles yet hehe...I`m running with 2 saves though so I might try this now...also playing on easy but I think i`ll start a run on normal as well because so far it`s been like really easy(still quite early though).

Bought this off amazon alongside mercenaries (since it was $15). Sooooo excited to play this, I haven't put my 3DS to use much aside from Zelda, wtb Persona 3DS!

Not really. It performed under Atlus's own expectations, however low sales in Japan were due to stock shortages, so people literally could not buy it for a while. I'm sure Atlus took that into account when evaluating the sales. Even then, the sales weren't that bad. It ended up around 144k.

Haven`t really noticed so far but does it matter during the battles if you move behind an ennemy to attack so the attack is stronger? stuff like that, things that would give you an aggravate situation without casting the spell?

Nah, in this game where you attack in that sense yields no damage bonus. Unless of course you use an ability prior to battle that does. There are also cases where you can attack spaces away for safety too.

Picked up my copy yesterday. Yuzu's kinda annoying so far. Disappointed that the 3D apparently isn't used anywhere, either. I am liking what I've played so far, though.

About half an hour till I can go get my copy. Will be alternating between that, 3rd Strike Online, and watching that Rock of Ages dealy tonight.

EDIT: Gonna look for more reviews tonight, hopefully some are out by now.

Games Radar: 9/10
IGN: 7.5/10

It's still not clear how much content is in day 8. I guess it depends slightly on the route.

As for adding stuff to the OT, maybe a brief skill list and description of demon races? Might be useful for newcomers.

been thinking about this after playing it for a good hr or so.

Why did they decide to keep most of the game on the bottom screen? Wouldn't flipping it around be better? It's not like there are much stylus controls in this game.

It's like for a wii u title where all the action is on the bottom screen and the map is on your tv o_O.

Boo, gamefly shipped it out, but it's listed as "not for sale"

This has happened before with new games, and sometimes it'll change by the time the game gets here.

Otherwise I'll have to go hunt it down without coupons. =/

I gotta admit, the voice acting is really good, and surprisingly brings the story and character to life. I feel alot more invested in Devil Survivor second time around.

Graphics are lot more detailed and crisper.

But, OMG, the music, I can barely hear it during cutscenes or during battles. I know someone else hear said something similar but can anyone else confirm that they notice a lower music level?

Yeah, I don't really get IGN's complaint that the voice acting is "atrocious". It sounds pretty serviceable to me.

If your music levels seem too low, turn off surround sound, set to headphone or stereo. The surround sound is great on the 3DS and it envelopes you in a ring of sound so to speak...but one of the drawbacks is that the music in most games/ find Mii mini game is lower than usual.

Where do I turn off surround sound? Im mostly playing with earphones.

Yeah, YooHoo's voice is the only one I'm not super impressed with, but it's still tolerable. It may also be that I'm spoiled by the wonderful VA from Persona.

Just to get this straight, was the minimal voice over's in the original game?

Really? I guess that one trailer really didn't sell the voice acting if that is the case.

The voice acting is really good, no complaints, infact it makes the story flow so much better. Im quite happy.

So what's the best route to take for a first playthrough?

Yuzu's route is the shortest and easiest, and it will always be available no matter what dialogue choices you make. But once you're finished that, you should replay the game 'cause the other routes are more ... interesting.

A pretty oddly worded review. I think she still recommended people to check out the game though on ds or 3ds.

The comments were surprisingly tame though.

the review was pretty much this is a great game but buy it for DS instead and then the reviewer gave it a much lower score than it deserved solely because the reviewer didn't think it should be on 3DS?

I'm sorry some of us don't think it's a ripoff to get more content and voiceovers

I love Yuzu but that route really disappointed me because it really made me not want to like her
