I'd like one reason why a 'core' gamer would even consider an Xbox One over a PS4..
Halo?

What about the secret sauce we've all heard so much about. Was that just plain bull?
Let's try again:
XBOne has 12 CUs
PS4 has 18 CUs
PS4/XBOne = 18/12 = 150%
XBOne/PS4 = 12/18 = 66.6%
OP, do you understand? I will not be able to sleep tonight unless you understand.
Shouldn't the similar architecture of both allow for games to be more easily scaled to each system? And yet, sadly, most third party games won't show any difference whatsoever.
If the Xbox is cheaper than the PS4, this might actually be a rather clever move by MS.
Man, the 26 people who will be able to afford a ps4 at launch will sure be lording it over the XBox fans.
Jokes aside
First of all, I greatly disagree with your word choice. Neither system is even close to offering "excessive" power.Man, the 26 people who will be able to afford a ps4 at launch will sure be lording it over the XBox fans
Jokes aside, what do we reckon the price difference will be, if any, between the two?
Would you rather have:
- Excessive powah for more £/$
- Less powah for less £/$?
Bearing in mind the actual practical difference between the the projected TFLOPpage?
This is sort of like saying "I'd like one reason why a 'core' gamer would even consider a PS3 over an Xbox 1.5" the day after the PS3's E3 2006 conference.
With the law of diminishing returns, the Xbox One doesn't have to be as powerful. Developers code for the lowest common denominator up. Where was Cell's amazing power advantage for PS3? Nowhere to be seen in apart from Naughty Dog's games. If MS use their cash on exclusives to lock out PS4 and launch at a decent undercut in price, say £50 / $100 cheaper, bye bye PS4.
Is this why COD looks like shit?

That's because the GPU and RAM solution of the 360 where better than the PS3's.With the law of diminishing returns, the Xbox One doesn't have to be as powerful. I'm just saying, DigitalFoundry went to the trouble of doing a full analysis overnight and quote 50%. Nowhere in that article is there another figure, never mind 33%.
If someone wants to pull 33% out of their arse then thats fine, i was just quoting the actual article.

Why would you say 30% less powerful? Lol. Seems a strange way to describe it. 50% more powerful is the more likely and common descriptor imo.
"It's a very powerful system, but also very simple and elegant in its architecture - very very flexible. In the past we've thought of games consoles that have been nothing but brute force but it takes agility and brains also to be a modern piece of electronics, and this system has exactly that, it can run full bore when it needs to run full bore."

If the PS4 is the highest selling console in the U.S. AND the PC remains healthy, etc. you could see a changing of the guard of sorts where the XB1 is getting crappy ports.
What an epic gamble that was.Bottom line: if you're wondering why Xbox One has a weaker GPU than PlayStation 4, it's because both platform holders have similar silicon budgets for the main processor - Sony has used the die-space for additional compute units and ROPs (32 vs. 16 in One), while Microsoft has budgeted for ESRAM and data move engines instead. From the Xbox perspective, it's just unfortunate for Microsoft that Sony's gamble paid off - right up until the wire, it was confident of shipping with twice the amount of RAM as PlayStation 4.
Well it's not enough to go from 30 to 60, so I doubt it'll be that interesting, it'll just be IQ advantages won't it?dem framerate matchups will be FUUUUUUUUUUN
You got Gies'd.What about the secret sauce we've all heard so much about. Was that just plain bull?
I'm still baffled as to why MS is hedging their bets with TV boxes in an era where cutting the cable is becoming a feasible and attractive thing. MS should have been a means to do that and it probably will be, but it'll be -- once again -- limited to the wonderful home territory of the US.
I quoted what the source says ("50%"), instead of stating an arbitrary figure that isn't part of the article. Thats my issue.
The DF article specifically says:
Still don't know where 33% number is coming from. Please link me to the corresponding tech analysis that has a different figure than this one.

Why are you quoting that? This is a thread about the hardware and how it can be compared down to the specs, not PR fluff.

I think people are overestimating the difference we'll see in the end products though.
This isn't going to create games that are light years different. It's like comparing a 660 Ti to a 670. The differences tech wise look/sound much better, but in the end are marginal...maybe a slight AA bump and small frame-rate advantage.
