lol, it seems some people might be taking advantage of all this beta madness, i got this email yesterday: (sorry if it's been posted before)

We’re gearing up for the forthcoming launch of Diablo III and would like to extend you an invitation to participate in the beta test. If you are interested in participating, you need to have a Battle.net account, which you can create on our Battle.net website.

We will flag you for access to the Diablo III beta test when we begin admitting press. You do not need to go through the opt-in process.

At least whoever wrote that text has a grasp on the English language, most phishing attempts I see are hilariously bad.

Uhhh... hell took like 4 hours to get into lol. Infinity made sure nothing was immune to me.

That was the fun of diablo 2 for me. Getting geared up without using d2jsp. Always started MFing nm meph at level 75ish until I'd have a Occy and Skullders (any SoJs and/or HoZ's were just bonus). All you'd need after that is some merc gear and you could hell meph, or you could just drop a port and heal your merc every 5 seconds lol. All you really needed was a HoZ to drop and you'd already have 2-4 high runes depending on the ED. If it was eth you'd have 6 or more high runes. I guess I just kind of loved mf grinding, finding that one item always meant my heart rate would go up.

Ages ago I had somekind of char that was purely elemental.
First mobs I encountered after rogue encampment were like immune to magic...

fml.

Crafting is really great. Best items in the beta are made by the blacksmith.
I saw orange materials in a stream so we can also craft legendary items.

I will rush through Hell at the release without the need to run to find good items. :P
 
I bought Diablo II and LoD for the first time in my life today :b

I can play this in offline LAN with my gf with just the one copy right?

EDIT: Is there any way to force old Blizz games into 4:3 image ratio?

At least some things never change. WoW betas go the same way. I would like to think PC gamers are smarter, but I've been proven wrong many times.

In the 2004 version of D3 that Kotaku posted pictures from, Diablo wasn't even in the game. They were going to save him for the first expansion. Don't know if they're still going to pull that shit or not.
 
Will the beta be open to everyone at some point or will there be a point where keys will be available to get into the beta?

They'll start flagging accounts for beta most likely in the next month and there might be beta keys tied to preorders like there was for SC2.

Also, some crazy dudes have hacked together a private server!

Taking a screen shot of a starting position is all you can do with it since it crashes pretty much instantly. Still, i hope they can get it to a functional level.

If this is a true client/server game and the AI and scripting is handled server side like it is in WoW then don't expect much even when they get it running. It still won't be the real Diablo 3.

Pretty sure that is the way it is setup. Yesterday while I was playing all of a sudden the game lagged to where I could move fine, but my attacks did nothing and the mobs weren't moving or attacking.

But in the end I guess Blizzard has the pirates/hackers beat this time ey? Unless they sit down and code A.I for all those mobs or w/e.

Although can't they just somehow "rip" that code? ( as you can see I know nothing about programming )

afaik the a.i. is clientside in order to prevent lag - drops, randomseeds characterprogress are serverside.

to populate a world you "just" have to sniff the communication between server and client and try to reproduce it...
 
Are town portals not in diablo 3? been watching a lot of streaming, and I've yet to see people use a town portal. Would be a shame to see something that's so iconic to the diablo series not make it in.

Also, are the orange, legendary items, the new unique's?

Town portal was easy mode. Hardcore without potion spamming and town portal will be really difficult.

Yes, orange = legendary = new unique.

From what I've seen town portal is a spell now that takes 8 seconds to cast. In multiplayer you can drop a flag and other people teleport from towns to you by taking your flag.

TPs are now a single reusable item with a small cooldown.

I have seen the Stone of Recall used that leaves a portal to return to the previous place. Not sure if other players can use this portal.

Other players won't need to use it - they can click your banner and are directly ported to your current location.

I saw some banner in Tristram, arranged in the middle. So they just click on that and it ports them to where I am? Damn, thats genius!
 
I need to start planning this. I want to put up some 1080p YouTube videos up once I get my account flagged.

I suppose I will have to use FRAPs to capture. Now, the question is: what application can I use to easily create a proper 1080p encode that YouTube will accept?

I'd like to know that too. I used WeGame, but the basic version halves the resolution.

virtualdub + xvid codec is a good start.

You can use it but if your character take damage the 8 sec casting reset and you can't use it when you fight a boss.

If You use blip.tv, You can give us direct link to video. The only limit there is 1gb per file.
