so I swapped to the blood wave build because all of the buggery surrounding the minion build and Mendeln ring, and I do have to say the ass clap (because to me the character is clapping its ass cheeks to summon the wave) build is unbeatable holy moly
that's what I'm running and my gear isn't optimised and it's doing very well

It was... okay I guess. I feel like they spend way too much time fixing mistakes which prevents them from dedicating time to make new compelling content.

I sat out s7, the only season j haven't done. Getting a bit tired of basically chasing the meta. It's way too difficult to conjure up your own builds in a single season length and get attached enough to it to improve it.

Figure out resource gen, figure what you want to proc, then figure out the synergy, then the aspects etc. Then you have status, affixes on top of that as well as constantly relearning the material rotation (i know they are changing to lair keys). Then you may have uniques as well, then runes or gems etc.

They really need to streamline some of this stuff and do a better job of surfacing the background synergies etc. The crowd control issue is a perfect example of things proccing and the player doesn't even know why

I tried out the Season 8 PTR, leveling from 1 to 60. It was a little harder, but not that much.

The new boss powers are pretty neat, and fairly strong. Getting to T1 as fast as you can and beating each boss once to get their power will be effective.

What’s the most fun class for essentially first time Diablo players?
I’ve only played a couple hours of Diablo 3. Nothing else.
Just installed Diablo IV but have no idea what class to pick. Started playing a bit with the barbarian but the combat didn’t feel as satisfying as I thought it would feel, two presses on A and everything is dead.

You could try a mage. They are a bit more squishy but you can counteract with some of their defensive skills. If it seems too easy, you can always up the difficulty level. I would just try all of the classes up to level 20 or so until you find one that clicks with you.

Yeah I was considering the last thing but just play for an hour or so on each class to get a rough idea how they feel.
Rogue seems fun too but I heard it’s auto target with a controller so might have to install on the desktop PC instead for direct mouse aiming. Have it installed on the couch PC now.

Can it be played offline? I see some random people pop up. I don’t want any of that.

Meh!
Oh well, been playing as a Rogue for awhile now, trying to understand what’s going on. It’s extremely chaotic, some helltide thing keeps spawning like 20 enemies that jump on me at once as soon as I’m out of the first city, I can’t see shit, explosions everywhere, just keeps on mashing A.
😵‍💫

Okay it’s about 10,000 times better when playing Rogue with mouse, you have to actively aim now, no auto target. Just took down my first tomb lord. Fun! But is there a way to lock movements? Sometimes I click at the wrong spot and starts walking into the group of enemies when I just want to stand still in the distance and lob arrows.

If you want a controller friendly build, try dance of knives.

Conceal, imbue, then spin to win.

None of the classes are complex, there's only really 3 builds per class that rotate if you're looking for endgame stuff. And that's fine, the objective is to get to the good loot in the fastest time.

Try a druid.

Right now I enjoy playing with mouse as a bow man Rogue. Evade feels random but otherwise it plays great.
I set a couple points into a sword attack skill that seems to be fairly powerful, don’t remember the name. But it eat up energy too fast. I maxed out the base arrow attack instead and it’s quite satisfying, 1-2 shots to end most smaller enemies, canon fodder essentially.

Another thing about the game in general. Loot drops are actually useful! Nice! I’ve been playing a lot of Avowed and the loot there is mostly upgrade parts, incredibly boring.

That dance of knives skill just plows through everything!

Told ya lol 😁

The key in the early game is to use concealment with the ability to guarantee the next hit is a critical strike. That way, if you use it for dance or knives, the entire duration is 100% crits.

Lmao yeah you said spin to win and it wasn’t an exaggeration, more like an understatement!😁

I use another skill too where the character unleash a serie of sword thrusts that is really powerful too, not sure what it’s called, maybe flurry? But it’s eating up energy fast. Combining that skill and dance with knives seems to work well, took down a dungeon boss in like 10 seconds that was probably meant to be somewhat challenging.

Might need to increase the difficulty, I play on normal now.

More difficulty, more rewards. But don't overdo the difficulty too much to where it becomes more inefficient.

Okay so you get better loot with higher difficulty?
I’m a noob on this IP, as said just a little bit on D3 is all I’ve played before this.
I saw my brother play D1 back in the days. Death there meant you had to go back and find your stuff. How is it in D4? I’ve been super careful to not die yet…

Fess Fess Also be on the look out for the Aspect of Star Shards or something like that. It allows your dance of knives to split up on hit, so you get more of an AoE effect. It's very effective. I think you might get it naturally from the season journey caches.

Couple noob questions:

Are there any consequences from crafting gems? All you can craft? Are the materials used for anything else?

And I found a pair of pants with a life per second buff which conveniently fill up the health orb. Is that a good approach for health regeneration? Or is life per kill a better buff?

Thanks, I’ll look into that 👍
I have something similar for arrows, when I right click I shoot arrows that twist and turn into nearby enemies.
Then I have a 25% chance of kicking off a special that rain arrows for maybe 2 seconds too. Nothing lives when I get it all going! 😁

It depends if you're playing season or eternal. My advice would be don't think about it too much. Just make do with the second to the highest quality gems until you can save enough to craft the highest tier gems.

And I found a pair of pants with a life per second buff which conveniently fill up the health orb. Is that a good approach for health regeneration? Or is life per kill a better buff?

Life per second is terrible. Just use a healing potion lol. I always enchant away life per second affixes.

I thought it was good lol, no need to fill up health after a fight. But there are usually plenty of health potions laying about on the battlefield so I get what you’re saying.

Ugh at some point very recently it looks like they broke (deliberately disabled?) the ability to color the "unequipped look" pieces - you used to be able to color them by long-pressing on a different piece.

Easiest uninstall ever.

Rentahamster Rentahamster Just want to say thanks a ton for all the help! I’ve had an awesome weekend, complete noob on this game but I’m ending the weekend as a level 24 dance of knives focused Rogue and a lot more positive about the game. It’s been fun!

On the early level jumps, I think you just get more gold and more experience. At higher levels, you also get more loot. It will tell you in the UI, exactly what the benefit is as you are switching. In order to get into the torment levels, you need to complete pit runs up to certain levels. You don't need to worry about torment levels until you are higher level. I think there will be a quest guiding you to the pit but if not, it is in Cerrigar.

Rentahamster Rentahamster thanks for this thread!
i really hope they will reach diablo 3 unfuckery level soon. Them i will play this game again! <3

Antwix Antwix made this thread lol. I just made the guild 🐹

I hear ya about the D3-ification of D4. I had hoped with D4 they would keep the good things about D3 and leave out the bad things about D3, but it seems like they implemented the bad things about D3 and didn't put in the good things about D3 (until recently at least).

Do i have to opt in the guild each season? I was in it, but this new toon I started isn't in it

No, it stays through seasons. There probably isn't a whole lot of people in the guild playing right now since it is mid-season. Most activity is at the start of new seasons from my experience.

I was thinking about starting up a fresh campaign with a barbarian. Haven't played since launch and barely scratched the surface.

Is there a list of improvements or tweaks they've made to the regular campaign? Any QoL goodies?

Read this:

Then just read the season notes. Tuning and build changes are always happening. If you're getting VoH then read the campaign specific stuff there and the spiritborn stuff too

So…. Is there any way to cancel the main story skip that is apparently default setting when you start a new character? Can you transfer the same character to play the main story? A hack/mod?

Just realized that my now level 25 character have no access to main quests at all, all I’ve done is side quests…

Do I have to replay everything if I want to experience the main story?

Fess

Enjoy the story! I think they did a great job with it.
Yeah from what I’ve seen it’s not boring black and white, hell and heaven, there are layers of complexity to both sides and the core philosophies are more in the gray areas in between. I’m new to the IP so trying to catch up on the lore of Sanctuary as much as I can, no skipping dialogue here. I can already guess where it’ll go though so might be predictable, unless I’m wrong. But I like the side stories too. And the general gameplay is great!

IMO

they should make seasons every 4 months. make the content a bit harder. they'll have extra time to work on things

Thanks, will check that out 🤝

Level 22 now, almost where I was at the end of last weekend, I’ve been able to swap the bow from my previous character to the new one too so I’m getting the positive vibes back again. Currently have a bow that trigger arrow storms which I really like.

Level 52! I’m enjoying nearly everything about the game so far.
Well no there is too much insignificant loot, and I had to increase the difficulty to Expert to have a challenge and it’s still fairly easy. But definitely not below 9/10 from my perspective. I love how free the gear upgrade and crafting system is; add socket, unsocket, refund skill, replace affix etc, it’s pushing you to experiment. Love it!
