Did anyone like Advent Rising

Here comes demi.
(though I think he's banned)

Haha. Demi is the only man who I've heard talk about Advent Rising in a positive light. Although I want to like it, as it had a lot of potential. And it still does if they can rid the sequelof all the bugs and glitches.

this has to be a joke thread (in light of demi being banned).

seriously, when i get some time, i'm looking forward to playing throught the game. the story sounds awesome, and i LOVE the art (i cant explain it, but it rocks my soul), so even if the gameplay is rocky, i'm sure i'd love the experience.

Advent Rising is a game that everyone should at least rent, from there i'm sure the power that compells Demi will overcome you~!

Music was excellent, and the story had potential, but it was just too buggy to play/

lol, why did he get banned? i must have missed the thread, unless it was in that wedne....thread

i've still not played Advent, but will definately check it out when its at bargain bin prices.

I liked it, even when it started that "Drake of the 99 Dragons" arm-twitching thingy sometimes. A good game that could be made tons better with a decent amount of polish.

I hear the PC version is a TON better, anyone play that?

No, but I may get it because it's only 30 bucks. I rented the XBox version, and yeah the music is awesome. The story isn't bad either and neither is the setting. That damn frame rate though...ugh. So choppy at times.

Also, mouse and keyboard is a more sexy control scheme than flick targetting.

Advent Rising is a mediocre and flawed 3D action game. But it is at least competent, and the production values of the non-playable stretches are excellent enough that the mechanical flaws might not ruin the experience.

Demi got banned? OMFG WTF? O___O

Advent Rising is AWESOME! Fuck the bugs and glitches. Fuck the framerate problems. The game definitively deserves more sales! Go buy it now!

P.S.: greetings from hungary. it's hot here.

I thought Advent Rising was pretty fun but I guess I must be getting up there with age because the frame rate bothered me. I'll buy it when its cheaper, fun game, just not $50.00 fun.

And why was Demi banned?
Its a damn injustice. man:b

Demi banned for his one line response to a negative Shadow Hearts 3 review. One one-liner too many, I suppose.

Anywho, I really want to get this game, but my Xbox is currently busted, so I'm veddy curious as to whether or not the PC version really is better. Anyone? Anyone? Bueler?

I got the PC version yesterday. Never played the Xbox version, but the framerate hasn't ever dropped for me and mouse aiming fixes most of the aiming problems I hear are from the Xbox version. However, my game has crashed to desktop 4 times in as many hours, though oddly enough it does it right after it saves, so once you load it up you can continue just fine. The CG cinemas are very grainy due to the increased resolution, and I couldn't get the shadows to work correctly (I see boxes). Might sound like a lot of problems, but the game is pretty fun so far.

Thought I'd bump this because I finished Advent Rising this afternoon, and thought it was absolutely kick ass. The frame rate was rocky, yeah, but it didn't really ruin the experience for me. Yes, there are bugs (worst camera ever?) and glitches (objectives not showing up are is nice), but the storyline is some of the best I've ever experienced in a game, and combat was really, really fun. The mix of gunplay and super powers was really cool, even if you basically stopped using the guns after you became powerful enough.

I beat it yesterday, it really sucks that the trilogy was cancelled. It felt like Shenmue at the end, where you know they planned more, but were unable to finish (supposedly anyway). It just suddenly...ended. That I did not like at all; just when you thought you were mastering all your powers, but before you could enjoy an entourage of maxed out powers, the game ends. Great story, cool game. Needs a sequel badly.

It wasn't officially cancelled; everyone's just assuming that because it sold poorly.

No, last I heard they were still going forward with the series. They even have a PSP game coming out.

I checked out the PC version for a quick few minutes, it seems like a really cool game with some nice direction and flow. I still haven't figured out how to change the mouse controls to stop working like a joystick but aside from that the game handles well. Looking forward to enjoying it.

Start new game.. pause game.. enter code
(Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, White, Black, X)
..enjoy maxed powers/god mode/whatever you choose from the start. :p

I got it at launch and liked it as well. The framerate wasn't as bad as it was made out to be and certainly didn't affect the gameplay (much), but the crappy videos.. ugh...

The powers rocked with each having 2-3 plus functions each and the ability to upgrade. Hell, while I tried to use and upgrade all the powers I didn't even use all of them the first time through :lol. I even ended up discovering more by watching others play through it. The music rocked as well (as everyone knows).

I can't wait to see what they do with the series next-gen.

I have a shirt for the game, but I have no game.

Same for Psychonauts.

Same thing happened for Beyond Good and Evil, but where's our sequel to that beautiful game?

Difference here is that Majesco's been promoting Advent Rising since the start as the first part of a trilogy. BG&E simply set itself up for a sequel. I don't believe it was promoted in its press releases and PR hype as part of an epic trilogy.

Take with a grain of salt...but according to IGN...

Advent Sequel
Can you pester Majesco and GlyphX about whether Advent Rising's sequel will ever see the light of day. Obviously you don't know anything yet, or else you would have told us, but I would really appreciate it if you could get an interview with someone from both of those companies and see what's up.

Sure, I can pester them, but I can tell you right now that Majesco won't be publishing a sequel. Game journalists ripped GlyphX's first game like it a commie in 1950s American suburbia. Shredded it, some of it deservedly, but a lot of it not. So, partially because of reviews and partially because the game was not firing perfectly on all cylinders Majesco won't be publishing a sequel. As I understand it, GlyphX is most likely working on another title entirely.

Yeah, it's not much, but I'm not optimistic.

I got the PC version .... still haven't popped it in .... ummm, yea ... so I really have no input here... I'll be back in a week.
