I received a $15 check in the mail today from a settlement in a class action lawsuit against Facebook. A case I had no idea even existed until I got my check.

Fraley, et al. v. Facebook, Inc., et al. is a class action lawsuit filed in California against Facebook alleging misappropriation of Facebook users' names and likenesses in advertisements called "Sponsored Stories". The case resulted in the parties reaching a settlement. Settlement checks in the amount of $15.00 were distributed to class members beginning November 17, 2016.

I dug up this old thread. Guess whatever I did 3 years ago awarded me $15.

These things always bug me and I always have a knee jerk reaction to them.

I had no problem with Facebook's Spotlight Stories, in fact I would guess that most people did not have a problem with it. It's quite possible that the only people that did were in fact lawyers looking to make a buck or two.

I'll still spend the money though.
