Did you know 65% of the world is lactose intolerant?

Moar for me bitches

If I even think of drinking milk, eating ice cream, or eating yogurt I have to spend all night in the bathroom. I'm fine with cheese.

I got rid of dairy pretty quick once I realized what was going on. It was pretty easy. I'd rather go without ice cream than sit and shit all night and have horrible stomach pains.

It's also worth noting that the inability to process lactose in adulthood is in fact the human default, which is why scientists tend to refer to lactase persistence instead.

Even in European populations tolerance varies, with northern countries having much higher levels of persistence than southern ones.

That's interesting....No one I know in my family (including aunts, cousins) is lactose intolerant. 65% percent of all human beings sounds crazy to me

I'm lactose intolerant but I still eat it anyways. Usually dont have problems but it comes and goes, when i do start to have problems I just take a lactaid pill. Not that bad.

Yep, I can believe that, especially since it shows up later in life.

Like others, my intolerance is weird. I can have cheese just fine, but regular milk (Lactaid is awesome), milk chocolate, or ice cream make me have to go to the bathroom for either a couple times to over 5 in a day.

And this showed up like a year or two ago. Before, I'd have some kind of dairy every day.

I can deal without plan milk, but I love cheese and ice cream so muc. And chocolate milk, and hot chocolate, and....chocolate.

Glad I can eat them. :x

I get a sinus infection if I have a lot of ice cream. Same if i go overboard on pizza. I think the casein is my issue.
You can always order the pizza without cheese and tell them to compensate by adding extra sauce. Then you can buy some ripe avocados and place them on top of each slice. Don't forget the hot sauce (if you like hot sauce that is).

Saw this documentary that lactose intolerance and allergies are related more and more with C-section births. A natural birth through the birth canal/vagina gives a baby the necessary jump start to their defense system (all the bacteria making contact withe the baby's mouth skin etc) to cope with allergies, lactose intolerance etc in adult life.

They were making an experiment with these group of babies born with C-section where they took a swap of the mom's vagina and then rub it on the babies mouths and skin to simulate a natural birth and see if the incidence of allergies, lactose intolerance and others would come up later. Obviously the study requires time as the babies have to grow up to see if they have those or not.

There maybe a truth on that. I was born thru a C-section and I'm lactose intolerant and have allergies...

All those things other than water are gross. Avoid orange juice, unless if you're fine having same amount of sugar as a soda.

If people are fine with drinking soda, why would they suddenly not be fine with orange juice.

Enjoy your milk/water with waffles, nerds.

Dairy is so fucking good. I've been trying to cut down on the amount of beef I eat for climate reasons but milk and cheese are too important to me.

My best friend is allergic to milk, as in he'll start puking and might die without proper medical response, which always sucked. Everyone always assumes that he's just intolerant and makes fun of him for it too. I'm not sure I could handle that.

If it is a nicer pizza place I usually get goat cheese. It doesn't bother me at all.

Best pizza I ever had was in a small village in Italy outside Naples that used goat cheese.

No surprise; dairy is cancer for the human body. If you have to take a pill to combat the side effects of a certain food perhaps we shouldn't be consuming it in the first place.

As someone who cant stand coffee or tea, id legit go crazy if i was told i can't drink milk.
Is it something that can grow or you just have it or you dont?

If you drink milk continuously, you wont have troubles i believe, but if you stop drinking milk for some time, your gut bacteria will change so it affects you more.

In any case milk isnt that great for adults in general, even though many consider it a health food. I believe mortality is correlated with milk consumption, though it is not such a strong correlation that you need to worry about it.

Strange, I thought it would be higher. I knew the majority of humans were lactose intolerant. No real reason for an adult mammal to consume dairy.

I CANNOT live without dairy.

Also how is India 75% lactose intolerant when they put butter on everything?

Butter doesn't contain lactose. Lactose is a sugar (hence the "ose" ending, like fructose, sucrose, etc.), dairy products which have zero sugar (such as butter), little sugar (such as cheese), or bacteria which have already done work on the sugar (such as yogourt) are usually fine for lactose intolerant people.

I remember cafes in London in the 80s used to have drinks machines - like the ones where you fill up a cup with coke - that served ice-cold milk. Nothing else. They all had the same kind of poster on the front, a glass of milk on a blue background.

I loved gettting a drink from them and was always surprised if people said they didn't enjoy milk. I had never heard of lactose intolerance.

Never, the milk must flow.

If it weren't for milk, I bet we'd drink beer all day long here in Finland.

Damn, you guys just had to go and stomp us at milk drinking, the thing that really matters. You have like half the population than Sweden yet drink more.

Wat. My adult body handles lactose very well, so clearly you're saying I should drink even more to take advantage of my superior genes

Are you a baby cow? If so pls drink milk

Are you a crazy person who eats periods? If so pls eat eggs

Lactose intolerance really only affects your ability to drink liquid milk. Other things like cheese and yogurt are fine. So yeah, they just don't drink it.

Yeah, this is wrong..
Butter and cheese still have lactose in them, and I can guarantee you that it has an effect.

Drinking the milk of the cow tit is unnatural.

I think I remember reading that lactose tolerance is a rather new trait being developed by humans through the proliferation of selective breeding with those that exhibit those tolerances.

Basically, you're a mutant if you are lactose tolerant.

What makes it unnatural? And is making cheese out of it unnatural too?
What about baking bread? That seems unnatural too... or grilling meat. Unnatural.

I'm very mildly lactose intolerant, in that I have my muesli every morning with milk and I have no problems with milkshakes. But drinking half a liter of that and I will feel sick.

When was the last time you ate chocolate?

WORST MUTANT ABILITY EVER.

I don't even really like milk much at all :/

You guys should really try going without milk products for a week and be shocked how much better your digestive system will feel.

I do that every time I have a cold because some foods aggravate the congestion and don't mix well with the NyQuil.

Doesn't make a difference on my digestion.

Also, that first glass of milk after a week+ when I've recovered from the cold tastes AMAZING!

I wonder if this includes those who experience mild symptoms,

For example, I've never been diagnosed as I've never bothered to be tested, but I'm relatively confident I'm either mildly lactose intolerant or have a very mild form of IBS

You can try pausing your milk intake for 3 weeks, and then just one day go back to full milk diet. If you are intolerant you gonna have a bad time that day.

You can usually force your body to accept milk, but you will have random side effect like being bloated stinky farts, headaches and even migraine.

Didn't find out i was intolerant until i was 30, and my now wife didn't figure it out until she moved in with me. And my parents haven't figured it out at all, even after pointing out to them that at least one of them must have the same problem.

I remember I am after I eat a butterfinger blizzard

It's okay I'm willing to shit my brains out.

I absolutely cannot go without dairy. Don't give a fuck.
