It changed the series a lot and I remember many if not most disliking it. The old games were great but I had no problem with the new direction and the more aggressive gameplay made sense from the story perspective too. It felt like the Daniel Craig Bond era of Splinter Cell. I remember liking the mark and execute mechanic too. Should I play Blacklist? I did buy it at the time but didn't play it much. It didn't feel right without Michael Ironside.

The presentation was awesome. It used a heavily modified UE 2 engine, if I'm not mistaken, and it looked better than many UE 3 games of the time. The interrogations, use of black and white during stealth and objectives projected in the level were awesome.

It was very different than previous SC games, sure. But it was the best 24 game that we will ever get.

And the co-op campaign was AMAZING. One of the best co-op experiences ever.

I appreciate it for what it is and loved seeing Sam Fisher in a new light but being a huge fan of the original trilogy (Stealth Action Redefined, Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory), this entry in this franchise is pure blasphemy and I hate that it exists.

Good action game on its own.

Both OG Xbox and 360 versions of Double Agent were great. I'm glad I bought the original Xbox version digitally on Series S before got delisted. I remember playing it on PS2 on release and the graphics were underwhelming.

The black-and-white was a mistake, though. They should have found a different way to indicate stealth.
Or just confined the desaturation to the corners of the screen.

I like every Splinter Cell quite a bit. One is better than the other and the vibes and even gameplay mechanics are quite different between them but they're all great games in their own way.

I was one of those people who initially hated the new direction they were going.
But as soon as I actually played the game, I was like this is the fucking shit.

The inerogations were cool, I actually liked Punished Sam, the level design (other than on, you know it) was great.
And the projections on the walls for objectives and cutscenes/story beats was fucking brilliant......absolutely brilliant.
Im surprised more games havent copied that idea, its kinda like a middle ground between characters just walking and talking and the game straight up taking control away from you with a cutscene.

The Co-Op mode was also great, some of my buddies at the time thought SplinterCell was "too complicated" a game, being able to literally walk them through the game was a fun a experience and I made SplinterCell fans out of them.

So so good.

The action-y approach just didn't work, and constantly resorted to gimmicky mechanics and annoying level layouts. The storyline - not that it was ever a highlight of the series - was absolutely laughable and I didn't like the twist they put on established characters. For me, this game was literally the beginning of the end for Ubisoft.

The original trilogy was great and still feels good to go back to. They were true stealth games, and I appreciated the restraint in making a game comparatively slow-paced like that.

Its probably been a really long time since you played it cuz the game is still by and large a stealth game and Mark-Execute is basically used for like 2 guys you dont want to waste your time with or just to look cool, I basically only used it at the start or near end of a level cuz I was in a rush otherwise you are stealthing 99% of the time, cuz if you MX 2 guys in a room with 5, you are still fucked.


If im remembering correctly only the FN Five-seveN has 3 Mark-Execute counts.....every other gun was 2.
So its not like you are going around MX'ing everyone in a level, and alot of the MX opportunities could actually be done by hand, it just looks cool when Sam does "flashy shit" to accomplish it, and the counter was that many times you would have more enemies within ear/eye shot than you MX count so you end up having to do stealth till you can MX the last 2 guys.
It was more like a reward for being stealthy than a replacement for being stealthy.


Trust me, my fear was also that the game was a full blown action game then I played it and played around with the MX mechanic and realised its nowhere near as overpowered as I initially thought and many times as I said I used it just to get rid of nuisance I didnt want to waste time on, otherwise I was doing full on stealth.

I do agree with that. I played the Xbox version, and while it was a better designed game, you could tell that the development budget was like $36. I just remember a lot of warehouses (there were two full levels set in the same warehouse, as I recall) and generic settings. The last segment with the bomb defusal was also pretty bad. A pretty huge step down from what they'd achieved with Chaos Theory.

More like 1.5x more. It's literally all the gameplay from Conviction, same engine, same everything. They just have better level design and a little more flexibility on objectives. The two games are very similar.

I'm glad they are remaking the first game. I just hope it hasn't been cancelled.

Look, this is going to be an unpopular opinion but personally Conviction is second only to Blacklist. The old ones are great too, but I much prefer Conviction and Blacklist. They both still hold up.

Fell in love with the trailers back then, the more brutal and aggressive Sam Fisher and his playstyle. Final product was exactly as I had hoped for after the trailers. Reeeeally enjoyed the game.
Animations were quick, there was a certain flow to the movement and Sam's actions, it played well on the gamepad.


Oh, I remember that one scene:
Dude: "You can't touch me, I'm bullet proof"
Sam: "Oh, really?"
*shoots both the guy's kneecaps.*

Yep. Taking no shit from anybody, no stalling, no "I can't do this because I'd be no better than them" bullshit. Just pure badass.

Also, the coop-campaign was amazing. Played so damn well in coop.

They delisted many of them not long ago. I'm glad I bought them so I can play on Series S.

The OG Xbox version had a much better story, and the way they justified a particular death was 100x better when you had sneak around the hideout to talk to said character.

But the gameplay on the 360/PC version was top notch. Even though I played both I still say the OG Xbox version is the superior experience overall.
