My dad is getting a new digital camera and he is selling me his used Canon PowerShot A80 for $150. The camera is in brand new condition.

Is the Canon PowerShot a good camera ? Should I go ahead and buy it from him ?

Any advice will be appreciated.

here is a pic of the camera :

I got my Olympus c-5000 zoom for $147.00 and I love the heck out of it, Night shots are absolutely incredible and I love the super macro feature for taking extreme close-up shots.

The Canon cameras, in my experience, are really annoying in that there is a long delay between when you press the button and when the flash goes off. It's just a frustrating thing, not a dealbreaker. A great deal.

Thanks for the advice. I got the camera. So far it beats the crap out of my old Sony 2MP :)

Now get yourself some NiMh rechargables, a charger, and at least 256MB CF card if your dad didn't hand them down to you.

He gave me a 32MB FlashCard, I'm looking to get at least a 512MB Flashcard, tehy are on special at CompUSA for $59.99

I already have a set of NiMh and a charger from my old camera. I'm getting a card reader for my computer today and I will be set.

Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
I have that Canon... Great camera, but has some issues:

Indoor shots with low light almost always look like sh!t (grainy). Lowering the ISO, even in good indoor lighting conditions, still results in a dark picture.

The silver finish rubs off on the buttons very quickly.

:lol You'd think your Dad would give it to you.

Go with an Olympus if you can. Great quality at a great price. I think we discussed this here earlier this year. The entry level Olympus cameras give you fantastic picture quality at a reasonable price.

Actually, 10 minutes of research on google says otherwise. Canon offers the best bang for the buck on entry level and gives you far more manual options than Nikkon, Olympus or Sony.

Unless Olympus snuck some newer entry model cameras out on the market that I don't know about.
