I got my Olympus c-5000 zoom for $147.00 and I love the heck out of it, Night shots are absolutely incredible and I love the super macro feature for taking extreme close-up shots.
The Canon cameras, in my experience, are really annoying in that there is a long delay between when you press the button and when the flash goes off. It's just a frustrating thing, not a dealbreaker. A great deal.
I have that Canon... Great camera, but has some issues:
Indoor shots with low light almost always look like sh!t (grainy). Lowering the ISO, even in good indoor lighting conditions, still results in a dark picture.
The silver finish rubs off on the buttons very quickly.
My dad is getting a new digital camera and he is selling me his used Canon PowerShot A80 for $150. The camera is in brand new condition.
Go with an Olympus if you can. Great quality at a great price. I think we discussed this here earlier this year. The entry level Olympus cameras give you fantastic picture quality at a reasonable price.
Actually, 10 minutes of research on google says otherwise. Canon offers the best bang for the buck on entry level and gives you far more manual options than Nikkon, Olympus or Sony.
Unless Olympus snuck some newer entry model cameras out on the market that I don't know about.
