Digital Devil Delay?

The End

There are various release dates for this title floating around right now.

EB has 3/08

Gamestop has 3/22

Atlus has a nebulous "spring"

Does anyone here have a better idea when this is going to see release? Being that's it's probably going to have a low print run, i would feel compelled to pick it up right away. If it's delayed, it means i can afford to pick up DMC3 next week. If not, I'll have to wait.

Sigh, its the same thing as SMT3 had. Looks like we'll just have to wait.

that's basically what i was thinking as well. the week SMT:Nocturne was supposed to be released, Atlus delayed it by nearly a month.

IGN ran a story last month saying that it should be due in "late March", so maybe Gamestop's is correct, and EBgames hasn't updated yet.

To get the official answer, we called up Atlus USA earlier this afternoon and spoke with Marketing Manager Gail Salamanca to find out. Unfortunately Atlus hasn't nailed down an exact release date just yet, but Salamanca did confirm with us that the team is shooting for a late March 2005 release (likely between March 21 and March 30).

(name),

Digital Devil Saga will be released as soon as it's debugged.
We're working hard to make sure that the voice acting fits the lip
flaps, and a number of other small issues. We're hoping to make DDS the
best game it can be. While this has delayed it a few weeks, we're sure
the final product will be something worth the wait.

truthfully, i don't mind that they're taking their time with it.

Thanks for e-mailing them. I have such a backlog that I won't get around to this until DDS2 comes out anyway, so I don't mind waiting.

print reviewable is in hands of magazines, so it's soon. the lip flaps (which is a standard industry term :eyeroll) is actually very good, shockingly (especially compared to higher budget stuff like XS and FFX.) and i am enjoying the voice acting in the US version a lot, however, as i always read things on this forum about FFX having shitty voice acting and baten kaitos having good voice acting, i have no idea what you people will think.

Is it dual-language like some of Atlus' other goodies?

I completely forgot it was supposed to come out this month. I kind of feel bad now that i think about it, I bought Nocturne and have barely put any time into it.

nopes. guess it wouldn't fit. i asked atlus PR about this months ago, was told probably not due to space. but the voices really are good, imo. i mean, people shouldn't get their expectations out of wack, but i was a bit worried. i remember the voices in persona 2 ...

Websites should also have the reviewable too. We've had ours for a couple weeks now.

To be fair this isn't really a game that needs the Japanese track. While the voice acting was mainly good in the Japanese version, there just isn't that much voice acting in the game so for the most part even bad voice acting wouldn't hurt the game much. I mean it's mainly a dungeon game with an interesting world.

On the other hand Atlus better for the love of their life get dual-language on Stelladeus. Seriously I will be quite sad if the Japanese track is missing. Since Stelladeus is a ton of story told through 2d still pictures, what makes it so engrossing is the shakespeare quality utterly amazing voice acting they got from their people. Unlike DDS, an ok or even worse a bad dub would drop most reviewers scores by several points IMHO since the game is mainly about the story and still pictures for 5-10 mins with crappy voices would stop many people from enjoy the dialogue.

i dunno, i'm really enjoying the story.

Well it is a good story but I just meant there aren't very many voice-acted cutscenes. I'd guess under 30-45 mins total. I mean DDS2 comes with a XSep1 movie type dvd with most of the DDS1 voiced cutscenes and it's 11 mins :P

Yeah I guess space would be the only issue here. Atlus has been pretty good with releases lately and I don't expect this to be any different. Hey ferricide, next time you see Atlus PR, bug them about Makai Wars for the PSP! :D

Can someone please tell me what the deal is with Stella Deus? What kind of game?

Think FFTactics, now make it more intellectual but drop the battle system so that it's like a normal rpg with 6-7 lead characters rather than a bunch of no-name people you assigned jobs; that should give you a good idea.

Thanks, bebpo. You mean intelligent story-wise, or intelligent, gameplay-wise? I hope it's the latter.

Story-wise, like philosophical debating and stuff.

Gameplay-wise it's solid but the AI is your typical SRPG AI where they're dumb and just go after the character with the lowest HP.

Not having a dual-language option is probably more than just space issues with how much voice-acting Bebpo says the game has. There's probably other issues (actor rights, perhaps programming issues, and etc) that could crop up. Still anxious for this game =O.
