[Digital Foundry] Hands-On With Steam Machine: Valve's Beautiful PC/Console - Specs, Impressions And More

Excited Bill Murray GIF by MOODMAN

Watched the video.. weak hardware.. about 4060 level with 8gb but with FSR3... I am not really very thrilled about it. if this is about 200/250US then yeah should be worth it. even at 300$ I feel its ok price. anything above is a big nope for me.

But knowing this is a new device and hype and all. it's not gonna be below 500$ lol

xbox is gone. There is now a new 3 player console war to argue over

Agreed. Microsoft are not competing with Valve.

Microsoft probably thought they would be the first with the console/PC hybrid. Maybe even win another Time Magazine invention of the year award.

Then boom. Valve have pissed on their fireworks.

Should I be excited?
I'm not sure, reading the specs it might interest someone who does not already have a PC, or has an old one. It's probably going to be cheap for the performance though.
I remember reading that PC players seem to hover around the 3060/4060 performance area for the most part. It seems to be the same ball park.

But I hope they release more powerful hardware in the future.

RDNA3 and only 8GB VRAM are 2 massive issues right from the getgo.

this has to be CHEAP... and I nean CHEAP CHEAP to be of any value.
I'd say 500€ is the upper bound of what this is worth

I'm in for the controller. Even though the Steam machine looks decent enough, I have no need for it so will be passing.

It's cool they're exploring the concept again. Obviously a 6c12t zen4 + cutdown rdna 3 7600 GPU aren't going to interest enthusiast much. I like the controller.

PS- I like the name GabeCube.

You can hot swap the micro SD card between the Steam machine and the steam deck without the need for proprietary storage cards.

No Way Wow GIF

I was once told this wasn't possible.

You mean PC gaming is new?

Steam machines tried once and failed, this new Steam machine is average at best, probably good enough to run game on medium quality, but do not expect a performance on par with PS5 or the Series X.

If anything this proves the direction MS is taking is not that bad
