Digital Foundry is no longer controlled by IGN

But as of today, Digital Foundry is no longer a Eurogamer sub-brand, and it's no longer controlled by IGN. DF's founder has purchased the publication and its complete archives, and a team of five is taking it completely independent.
Like Giant Bomb, or the former Kotaku writers who created Aftermath, it's the latest example of video game journalists finding a path that's different from corporate ownership. "We answer to nobody but you, the audience," DF now says, as part of a new podcast episode explaining the change.

Will their videos be shorter as a result? I used to like them when they were doing shorter videos, now all their videos are basically podcasts.

Already had a feeling.
When you make a show like that and somehow "extrapolate" on your commentary, I believe sites like IGN, the social soys they are, would demand them to tone down.
Pretty sure the team would have no balls, but I doubt Rich would let they control what they like to do or say.
I see that as a marvelous thing. Let them do whatever they want freely.

No one can control them. Now they can finally pursue their edgy reboot arc.

Digital Foundry unleashed.

Good for them. I hope this works out financially so they can continue doing what they already do.

It's about time, not sure why it took them this long, their channel has been poppin' for over 10y.
They bought out the company from their own pockets. Rich said it's the biggest purchase he's ever made. It costed him more than his house. That still wasn't enough and he had to get a partner.

I'm assuming it cost them in the low millions.

Quite a brave move then. Nice.

Good. Since the IGN thing I thought a lot of their videos became ultra-bland. Found myself watching far less of it. Got to wonder if the Nintendo infomercial debacle had a lot to do with this change.

Now they just need to get rid of Alex, give Tom some more meaty stuff and do more Retro episodes. Well aware this is probably not "good business" but I don't give a fuck. Make things I like and bollocks to everyone else.

Yea just heard that listening to their latest video.

If they let money control them before, they'll do it again, just in a different way (what sells/sponsors). So Idk why folks think new content will be more meaningful or how they can arbitrarily decide what past content wasn't honest due to IGN (or how it's better if they come out and say which, even).

Because he's a mature adult, not a teenage boy.
Why would anything like that make any adult uncomfortable? It's not like you either get horny by pixels or uncomfortable and there's no in-between like say, just be unfazed by whatever content and simply play the game (whether cos you like the rest of it or just need to cover it for a video etc.)?

Even if you wanna make some kind of commentary on potential negative connotations of such depictions, it's still something one would acknowledge happens quite regularly, enough to both hold such an opinion of it & still personally be unfazed when encountering it because it's that common.
Some people find the teenage-boy baiting massive-titted, almost naked young girl image from so many East Asian games a bit creepy.
Not really an explanation for any adult that's encountered pandering (to teenage-boys as you say, or any other niche really) content (games or otherwise) for decades, sorry. Maybe some random that lives under a rock and doesn't realise such content exists could get uncomfortable the first time.
