Digital Foundry is no longer controlled by IGN

It doesn't change anything, they're not good to begin with. They CAN be good, but most of the time they don't take the time to make good analysis videos.

So who is the private investor? Is that something thats going to be publically known? There are all kinds of interest here, if they really want to be taken seriously.

At least with a corp like IGN, you can asssume there is some kind of moderation going on in terms of bias.

Is there a lore reason why Alex feels uncomfortable playing Stellar Blade? Is he gay?

As a straight male with a pretty good sex life, I find games like that incredibly cringy. It is hard appreciating the gameplay when you hear the wheezing huffs of a million basement dwellers frantically masturbating via the Jedi Force Gameplay Mental Internet.

All Digital Clowndy and the woke stuff aside, DF Retro is fire and this is good news for everyone.

John does the best work there imo with the retro stuff, so the more the merrier.

I don't think so cause their Patreon is fairly recent and would have only grown to something approaching self sufficiency much more recently. Obviously they were funded in their entirety by Eurogaymer long before they launched a Patreon, and certainly haven't been anywhere close to self funding themselves from the Patreon this whole time. They've definitely been drawing salaries and benefits from EG/IGN. At best they may have bought a stake in the brand/company from EG when they launched the Patreon. I suspect that may be why they launched the Patreon in the first place, gave EG an ultimatum that they all walk and start a new business if they don't sell them a percentage and let them run/keep a Patreon for themselves.
They didn't make standalone videos until around 2015. Based on what Rich says in the video, at that point they were entirely self-owned. So Eurogamer would have paid DF to commission articles, and DF would in turn have paid their contributors.

Then in 2015 Rich went to Gamer Network (Eurogamer) asking for investment to move into making videos, and that's when Gamer Network took a 50% stake. So there was a big initial investment, but it's not clear that Gamer Network was financing the videos on an ongoing basis. This is what DF said regarding their videos in 2022:

"The key point I want to make about the DF Supporter Program is how transformative and liberating it has become for us as creators. Digital Foundry is an independent business and has to support itself via YouTube revenue, very limited sponsorship opportunities (just four sponsored videos in 2022 vs around 20 videos created each month) - and supporter income.

The success of the Supporter Program has meant we've delivered on our promise to invest more resources in DF Retro and it's also made us less reliant on highly volatile YouTube income. It's also allowed us to bring in the brilliant Oliver Mackenzie as a freelancer, meaning the rest of the staff can spend more time on projects while allowing us to have a much better work/life balance - something that has been challenging for us in the past."

So that implies they needed the supporter program to pay Oliver for his contributions. There can be a division of labour where Eurogamer pays DF for articles on its website, and DF self-finances videos that appear only on its YouTube channel. (Obviously DF would be able to benefit from video content that later gets made into an article).

I'm sure he can afford some bleaching but chooses not to, not everyone wants massive whiter than snow veneers.
I smoked for 15 years and have drank coffee for 30. No bleaching or white strips. Hell I even use hippy toothpaste without fluoride. My grill looks nothing like that. Please don't think you need whitening products or a special diet to have better kept teeth than that. Hell I barely even go to the dentist anymore after not having cavities for a multiple consecutive years. Just when there's enough buildup I can't get to with floss, brushing and water pick. Maybe once every 2 years, cleaning only. No X-rays unless something hurts.

Your teeth are irrelevant, his teeth are yellowed and would benefit from whitening.
