The prototype for RE4 in terms of how they tweaked the game play to be more rewarding towards fighting instead of running away. DC2 was a pretty damn good sequel to the first game, although it still has one of the most infuriating unresolved cliff hanger endings.

GO BACK TO RESCUE DYLAN, REGINA YOU RED HAIRED FUCK!

For folks who haven't played or are interested in replaying it right now, the current options are basically only GoG. The game isn't on the US PSN store for PS4/5 either as far as I can search. Though, emulation is always an option.

The game has a few HD texture mods as well, some of which have good results. I recently dabbled in some texture modes via the PSX emulator Duckstation and the results were pretty decent.

One of my all time favorite games. Always preferred it to the original. The atmosphere is unreal, gameplay satisfying, backgrounds and environmental story telling peak pre-rendered era, music always on point.. and those CGI cutscenes were literally unbelievable at the time.

We are owed a goddamn sequel. After a proper Remake from the RE2R/RE4R team.

Vastly inferior to the original, which was arguably the most impressive fully 3D PS1 game

I both agree and disagree. DC2 had to revert back cause the PS1 would probably explode handling the amount of dino's this game throws at you at one time.

But on the fiip side, being 3D means DC1 scales veeeeeeeeery nicely via emulation along with a nice HD texture mod or two.

I liked DC2 but it definitely felt like it was given to the B Studio with a lower budget despite how much the Intro cost to do.
Dino Crisis joins the ranks of IP's that had a very successful first entry followed by some direct to DVD sequels where the first sequel was okay but a noticeably lesser production followed by a dog shit 3rd entry that put the nail in the coffin.

Dino Crisis 1&2 are both awesome classics, even though they are differently build, I wouldn't put one above the other.

I'm still hoping for a remake of these 2 games, but crapcom is still stuck up their own asses.

One of the best TPS games ever made (yeah, I'm serious). And yes, I know it's very different from the first game. It's in a way similar to what happened with RE4. I loved both. I have to replay them some day.

I replayed both from GoG not long ago. 1 is my favorite, but 2 is tons of fun. I like the underwater section a lot, drips with atmosphere.

I wish the game was a bit longer so you could use the more powerful weapons more, but it's a good thrill ride.

I beat 1 twice not too long ago (when it hit PS Plus). DC2 I never beat but I remember it was fun and a departure from the RE formula as DC1 was a bit too similar. I have it on PS3 still.

It's an outrageously good game. I feel like it's kind of a cop-out to call it a precursor to RE4, because that frames it in people's minds as a prototype when it's a unique game that still stands out.

I first played the game back in 2002 on PC, then replayed it in 2020 with the PS1 version of the game. The game's easily accessible again now thanks to the GOG release, which I played through earlier this year. The PC version will get the job done, but the PS1 version is by far the better one as the PC version's backgrounds and audio really suffer compared to the console original. That HD mod really just makes the problem worse.

But yeah - DC2 has some really addictive, fast-paced gameplay and the game doesn't overstay its welcome - it's a fun romp to blow through in an afternoon in a single sitting. I remember getting really excited for the game back when I saw the previews for it in PSM all those years ago, and it's crazy that 25 years later, I still feel so strongly about it.

Loved it, played the shit out of it, but preferred 1 and still do I guess. Used to find a good money farming spot by myself, no internet back then lol, and managed to get all weapons, etc.

I remember memorably starting and finishing it through a single sitting one night, having a lot of fun.
And never touching it again.
But at the time I preferred it to the tired, uninventive RE clone that was DC1 and its stupid code puzzles.

It is my favorite Capcom game before Onimusha 3. I love its arcade mechanics. Rarely is ammo a concern because kicking dino ass rewards extinction points that can be used for ammo purchases, upgrades, and new toys.

It also has a target switching system that no other fixed camera TPS has, which makes it more scalable to fighting many enemies simultaneously from different sides.

The responsiveness and speed of gameplay are unrivaled. Better yet, there is an effective melee system that can do crowd control better than action games of the time.

I can't think of another game before BioShock 2 that had active underwater sections like Dino Crisis 2 either.

The awesome sci-fi story and cliffhanger ending deserve a sequel with closure.
