Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy (PSP) announced

I dismissed the first Dissidia as complete and utter fan wankery when it was first announced and paid it no mind until months after it had been released. I saw it for 20$, hadn't used my PSP in I don't know how long and grabbed it out of morbid curiosity. Dissidia turned out to be one of the best damned games I had played in a good long while, I sank (what seems like a paltry amount compared to some) over 50 hours into the game. I'll gladly buy the sequel day one, no matter how retarded its name is.

Going to address 1 of 2 of my biggest concerns with the first ; Please add more female characters for diversities sake. Fighters are more fun with a well rounded cast.

Isn't Dissidia itself just a mispelled Dissidio?

Dissidium I think.

Anyway, the more you think about it, the MORE nonsensical this title gets.

- The number is slotted between Dissidia and Final Fantasy, for no reason whatsoever.
- The number is written out in Latin instead of English or Japanese, for no reason whatsoever.
- The actual number in the logo is not 12 but 012, for no reason whatsoever.

It's really a new peak in stupidity as far as naming sequels go.

It'll be a seriously missed opportunity (again) if Gilgamesh isn't wandering around the plot threads of this game trying to make off with staggeringly powerful blades while taking potshots at the fourth wall.

Boy I sure wish they went PS3 this time around. Better graphics and online play.

But this could still be great.

They probably couldn't come up with a ridiculous enough title to justify a major console release, so they had to settle for another PSP game for now.

Well it seems to popular idea is that it is actually because it is the 12th War, and is there for a Prequel to Dissidia one, or at least that is the speculation I have read.

Still even if that is the case the name is dumb as hell.

Even if the name means something, it's stupid in a marketing way, reminds me of people know knowing how to say the DS game title.

Wait for the inevitable 'Kingdom Hearts Keyblade War, the 11th Warrior of the Keyblade... War... MMO'.

But wasn't Dissidia the 12th war? It said that the 13th cycle would be next. Not that it even MATTERS, since FFXIII is in this game. It's all nonsensical now. :P

True, I just posted what I had read as far as people trying to think of why they named it that instead of just realizing that it was stupid and moving on.

Awesome news. Seems like it's been ages since the last time I played the first Dissidia already...

I wish they'd just forget about the story. It was the lamest part about Dissidia.

More characters and stages this time please. Less non-sense storylines.

Oh and a few enemies that aren't clones of characters.

It's a Nomura game. A nonsense story is a requirement.
Thats what alot of fans want.

Hell I wouldn't buy it with out one. Though this time I better not get a badass cutscene showing cross over fighting just to give me weirdly chopped up versions of the story from the characters original games. Such a tease.

i think they should drop the story heavyness and the boardgame progression and just do a more typical fighter set up (arcade mode and a light story mode) and focus on getting more characters in the roster instead

Maybe it's supposed to read as "hey we are Squeenix and we can name our games whatever the fuck we like and we don't give a shit because you dweebs are still going to keep on buying them".

....please add Mog.

What we have for this game isn't ridiculous enough? :lol

True story, I actually haven't played Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days yet. I asked for it for Christmas and as usual I was very precise in writing the name out for my mother (she hates games, doesn't understand them, and if the title doesn't match exactly, she won't buy it for fear of... something, I guess) and my mother told me she was literally unable to articulate the title to the clerk at the store and so bought me Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story instead.

It was probably for the best.

Couldn't she just show the clerk the paper you wrote it on?

She's an odd one. She probably tried to say the name twice, got pissed off, and went down to the next one on the list. This is why I usually get her to buy the newest Ratchet & Clank game instead.

It's hard to find these insane titles "stylish" or "deep" when they either sound like mangled English or just plain don't make any damn sense...

That said, Galuf and Vincent please!

Haven't posted in ages, but this news basically made my day.

The inclusion of Kain was probably the one thing I was mostly wishing for while playing the first Dissida, especially since Cecil basically aped a bunch of Kain's moves.

Wishlist hero/villian: Auron & Yunalesca

With all these PSP games still coming, Sony should really release a PSP-4000. Use the screen from the PSPGo (bigger, but no lines) and change the memory card from memorty stick to SD.

If this is actually a prequel (someone on another forum said the tagline was "The glorious war between Light and Dark begins!") then that doesn't bode very well for anyone who wasn't in the original...

So stuff I want:

  • Fucking get rid of summons and accessories that grant the owner insane bonuses or whatever. I understand they are there for fun (as in "I choose you Mewtwo now I win") but it's freaking disgusting how in endgame single player you are battling against a freaking tsunami of disadvantageous AIs who could possibly even carry all the abilities they do if they were controlled by human players.
  • That they ape something out of Super Smash Bros. and put the stages that are the most memorable from each game, not the ones where the important battles took place. Is there really anyone who wouldn't have preferred battling in Midgar instead of Northern Crater? Go batshit insane with it, like the Opera House from FFVI (Kefka's Tower was freaking lame) or one of the Gardens from FFVIII.
  • Better representation of FF characters. The first game was a sausage-fest with half the roster well-versed in magic and the other half made of swordsmen. This was a result of having to choose from the main characters and villains, but I think they should get free reign to put in whoever they want now that the franchise has proven to be successful.
  • A better script, but I'm not hopeful.
  • And most importantly:
    qxuzr5.jpg

Keyblades are for scrubs. Pros use chainsaws.

Sidenote: I don't know shit about latin (as my tag should tell you), but duodécimo in Spanish means "twelfth". So, uh, I guess that's why there's an 012 there. Are they implying there are ten other iterations that they're skipping over? Maybe they are only going to include characters from twelve of the mainline titles?

That couldn't possibly be it... could it?

Actually that doesn't hurt their chances, we already know that the sides are not always the same.

Jecht was actually on Cosmos side in a previous war, and another time they turned Terra and had her help destroy the heroes.

The first game was a surprise to me. I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did, but I'm looking forward to the sequel. I just hope that some of the characters I wanted will be in it.

I wonder if the characters from the first will be in the sequel?

Dissidia is supposed to be the "12th War." "012" could be their wacky way of saying that it takes place before the first one.
