Which game should i get? I can only get one and I was looking into Devil May Cry 3 beccause i dont know much about Ninja Gaiden.

Ninja Gaiden by a mile

But wait for Ninja Gaiden Black for a better price ($30,) extras, and more difficulty settings.

dmc3 has better mechanics, ninja gaiden is bigger and has better levels. i prefer dmc3, and i'd suggest you buy that and wait for ninja gaiden black. in any case these are the two best 3d action games yet.

Get DMC3, deeper combat system, more challenging, better characters, better boss fights better story, better cutscenes, its just flatout better.

Can anyone tell me if the original XB Ninja Gaiden, in its entirety, is included in Black? I wanna trade this biznitch in.

I'm pretty sure it is, and then some, because there's at least two new difficulty levels. And for the OP, Black is $30 and NG is $40.

DMC3 by a HAIR. But that is more due to personal preference than anything else.

As others have stated, DMC3's combat mechanics are a tad better, and NG's exploration elements are better. Which you want is up to your individual tastes.

They are, unless you like shallow easy crap, the two best games in their field though.

Does it really matter what we say? I mean, what are you expecting here?

I much prefer Ninja Gaiden, though both are excellent. Just go with whatever fits the mood of the moment...

NG is more of a wide open adventure, though (kinda like what a combat heavy Metroid-lite might be...sorta). DMC is straight level to level action.

Can't go wrong with one or the other, your going to be an getting ass reaming from either one anyway. If it's about the cash then get Ninja Gaiden Black as what people have stated it's only $30, get DMC3 latter on.

Since you might I well wait for Ninja Gaiden Black, go for Devil May Cry 3 first. Sooner or later you'll have money to buy NGB. Just set aside $5/wk and BAM, right when NGB releases you got the money for it. But you can't go wrong with either so there you go.

Hm. Predicament we are in. I've put in over 500 hours in both games. (for creds)--added together lol

PROS-
DMC3:
Better Story
More Combos/Manual Combat System
Instant Weapon Switching and Canceling
More boss fights
Better sense of Balance (I'm looking at you Flying Swallow)
Heavy RPG/Character Building Elements
Castlevania 'vibe'
Allows you to Carry over stats for added replay value. Boss Tactics and enemies change on harder difficulties giving the game more depth.
Kick ass cutscenes

Ninja Gaiden:
Friendly Save System
Better Graphics
Difficulty that isn't insane for your average gamer
480p
widescreen
More Varied level design
Fun 'adventure' segments, no crap genre breakers like in God of War
Moderate RPG Building Elements
Amazing sense of control and defense in the action.
Amazing Wall-Play Combat.

CONS-
DMC3:
Checkpoints cost money
Difficulty is extremely high front to end even on easy mode, thus killing the fun factor for non-DMC fans/novice gamers.

Ninja Gaiden:
Lame Automatic "Dial a Combo" system. However it has amazing defense oriented combat. XYXY XYXYXYXYX XYXYXYX based combos blow chunks.
Lot of backtracking
Some uninteresting level designs (a bland looking town etc.)
Some "WTF" platform moments.
Balance issues, some moves are godly that can be massively abused on normal.
LACK OF CARRY OVER STATS (a big no no for me)
Shit ran over twice as a story
Boring lead character (does the dude ever talk)

That's all pointless really, looking at general appeal and influence both games are quite excellent and I'm sure you knew that before you made the thread. I will say however, get DMC3. Yeah, DMC3 is 'perfect' for hardcore gamers, but more importantly Ninja Gaiden Black is coming out. For you to buy Ninja Gaiden for 30 bucks, and then have a superior version (at 30 bucks mind you) come out a month or so later --is one big suckage-- for you.

:) Get DMC3 now. Sell a pint or two of blood a few times, and get Ninja Gaiden Black when it comes out a few months from now, or is it next month?. :)

Close thread. The C- Warrior has spoken on the essence of action gaming. If people keep posting in this thread, I will write a thesis on the pure essence of action gaming.

Great website to get the flora and fauna, to see HOW DEEP and intense DMC3's combat mechanics can truly get. It's a sight to behold.

Yes on all those counts, but Ninja Gaiden does a lot of other things better.

Most importantly a more "fair" difficulty setting, which is enough to make a game go from awesome to suckage in seconds.

For those that like --really-- hard games (the just-parry pro at Street Fighter 3 type hardcore gamers), yes--DMC3 is better than Ninja Gaiden. A lot more freedom and depth in the bosses and combat. But lets talk more when Ninja Gaiden 2 comes out shall we?

Now, to explain the biggest reason why DMC3's combat mechanics are superior to NG's is to understand the relationship between manual combat systems, and automatic combat systems. (God of War has a manual set up btw, which is a thing that I liked about that game).

DMC3, you take a set of tools. These tools are simplistic one motion moves. Hightime, Air-Rave, Propshredder, Stinger, Million Stab, Inferno, Meteor etc. etc. etc. etc. all the way up to the number 90. Take that, with stock combos based on button input 'timing' a great feature btw, and you build your own "house" with these tools. There are no "combo lists" in DMC3 because YOU MAKE YOUR OWN COMBO LIST. Hightime to juggle to stinger > million stab, sure--you can do that. Stock Combo 1 to weapon cancel Revolver level 2? Sure, you can do that too. Million Stab, cancel to hightime (short x'2) to a hightime long, air rave 3 times and slash down and finish with a sword-pierce. Yup, you can do that to. I'd also like to say that I made up these combo chains in my head. But I know 100% that they work due to the games organized "physics" and "juggling" mechanics.

Ninja Gaiden on the other hand, you're really limited to pre-set combos by the developer.

You can't cancel in out and to many other moves as you can with DMC3, there is no instant weapon swapping in Ninja Gaiden. Ninja Gaiden enumerates the combos in a combo list. As in 1) XXX 2) XXXX 3) XXY 4) XYXXX 5) XYXXY --you basically have to memorize these set ups and regurgitate them afterso.

On the flipside, you can nearly do anything, at anytime, on anyone in DMC3. While the combo chains in Ninja Gaiden are already created and finite, DMC3 gives you a set of tools and says "have fun." Make up your OWN DAMN COMBOS and chains however and whenever you want.

That's the biggest reason why everyday there are about 50 DMC3 combo videos released, while--I've only seen 2 decent videos for Ninja Gaiden since the game was released. Tells you something about the combat mechanics.

It's really the same relationship between Dead or Alive and Virtua Fighter. DMC3 is harder to get into, but it offers the combat freedom and similarties seen in Virtua Fighter. Ninja Gaiden is easier to get into, but lacks the same peak of depth, very much like Dead or Alive, you can start mashing two buttons together and Ryu will automatically start doing this pre-determined set "dial-a-combos."

But don't let that confuse you, when it comes to action DMC3 and NG are absolute king. No game can even get close to the sheer technacalities and ass-kicking goodness of those games. And mind you, DMC or NG doesn't have to resort to style over substance asanine "fatality" finishers like God of War to please it's audience.

I sucked hard at DMC3 and I'm not ashamed to admit it. It was just pointlessly frustrating for me at certain points and I think I finally threw in the towel around level 6 (or maybe it was 7 or 8), whichever level had the twin statues you had to fight. I could not get past them, but the frustrating part was that I had to run the whole fucking level over again just to get back to the point where I would get my ass handed to me. I think it was a good 15-20 minute run just to get back to them and I think I gave it a good 4 or 5 tries before I said 'fuck this' and threw the game up on ebay.

Ninja Gaiden was also hard at first and I pretty much had a DMC3 moment around level 10 or so when you had to fight the fucking tanks. I didn't sell the game at that point, but I put it on the shelf for a good 5 months before trying it again. I finally got past them and the rest of the game wasn't really that bad.

There are some puzzle elements in GoW I wasn't too fond of. Hack-n-slash a slew of enemies and then a "walk the plank" puzzle. To me, (as in IMO, as in introspective, as in my experiences with the game) I felt that was a genre breaker, a filler of sorts.

Get DMC3 now and wait for NG:Black

If you were really adamant about getting one or the other now, I'd go with NG just because it's a more friendly game. I love DMC3 but it's definitely a game for folks who are willing to put time into learning how to play and all that.

I prefer Gaiden to DMC3. So wait for Black.

Gaiden provides a much better system in terms of evasion and manoeuver than DMC3 does which is focused on attacking.

So the choice is between,

flipping out a hundred different ways and killing stuff

and

killing stuff a hundred different ways.

Plus seeing as Ryu combines Trickster, Royal guard, and Swordmaster styles while Dante is stuck with picking between them.....

However the over the top cheese really really grew on me in DMC3. It really irritated me at the start but the goofy charm won me over about 3 quarters of the way through.

WTF do you mean "alas?" Damn.

I hope your Japanese username is legit. For the sake of our public school system.

It means Unfortunately, bad luck etc.....

As for my user name, its from the wonderfull RPG Grandia 2, which i rate up there with FFX and KOTOR.

Ninja Gaiden has no learning curve but once you get it down the game gets too repetitive. You can use the same strategy for any enemy. I would go with DMC3. God of War is better than both of them IMO.
