DMC3 or Ninja Gaiden

Ninja Gaiden has no learning curve but once you get it down the game gets too repetitive. You can use the same strategy for any enemy. I would go with DMC3.
Didn't the Hurricane Packs completely nerf the abusable moves?

Hey! It's a DMC3 vs. Ninja Gaiden thread!

I could quote the one thread here, or the other one here.

Seems like everyone wants to compare their action game to Ninja Gaiden. Might I suggest that as a sign that you should probably play Ninja Gaiden?

That is pretty crazy, comparing Ninja Gaiden to the game from which it borrowed design.

I prefer Gaiden to DMC3. So wait for Black.

Gaiden provides a much better system in terms of evasion and manoeuver than DMC3 does which is focused on attacking.

So the choice is between,

flipping out a hundred different ways and killing stuff

and

killing stuff a hundred different ways.

Plus seeing as Ryu combines Trickster, Royal guard, and Swordmaster styles while Dante is stuck with picking between them.....

However the over the top cheese really really grew on me in DMC3. It really irritated me at the start but the goofy charm won me over about 3 quarters of the way through.

uhhh...to say DMC3's style system is actually counter-productive (either stated through implication) deserves a big "WTF"

I don't "get you" when you mean DMC3 is full on fighting, because I assure if you think DMC3 is "full on fighting" than I'm suprised you got past the 1st mini-boss on easy, with cheats on.

Ryu does combine Trickster, Royal Gaurd styles together. As in he can wall run and counter (same system as Dead or Alive) but it's give and take. DMC3 has 4 weapon instant switching, manual combat system, 90 manual moves, more emphasis on RPG level up system, dual Devil Trigger systems, a parry system (which is available regardles of style).

So yeah, Ryu can do a few things universally without splitting it up in the styles, but because DMC3 splits it up--each STYLE HAS MORE DEPTH.

1) More chain possibilities in DMC3 (and most importantly they remain manual) because SwordMaster is separated off. Ryu's combos are restricted to what's pre-dileanated in the menu.

2) Because Royal Guard is a seperate style, Dante can just-parry, just-release, and perform all these bomb-ass ISSENS and one hit kills. Ryu cannot.

3) Because Trickster is seperated off, Dante can wall-run, teleport, (zero-fuckin-shift), airdash, and x3 ground-dash. Ryu cannot.

So, it's you get this but you lose that type of deal. Sure, it's awesome how you can wall-run universally in Ninja Gaiden, but because DMC3 splits them off each singular system gets much much more focus. Again, I really stress the fact some of you watch these combat footages, there is no way in living hell Ryu can pull of that much, the combat freedom in DMC3 is literally unmatched. Regardless of what style you're using. Yes, and that's largly due to "instant weapon switching" That may not seem like a big deal--but it in gameplay it's simply awesome to instantly (mid-combo) to switch from one weapon set to another in a blink of an eye and continue to bust out chains on an enemy group.

Of course, you probably perfer the all in one (yet due to the controller not having 10,000 buttons the not so deep system) that Ninja Gaiden does, while I perfer the split it up and focus on each element that much more. But it's really a give and take, neither is a flaw from either game. The only way DMC3 can put all the styles together in their full glory is if the PS3 had an ass-load of more buttons.

? Gaiden has been around since the late eighties and 3D action games existed before DMC.

I am confused as to what you mean ?

First off, the topic creator isn't comparing anything.

He's just asking which action game to get.

And being that DMC3 and Ninja Gaiden reign as king (or queen, depending on which you like better :lol ) it's obvious both games are juxtoposed quite often. If not in the topic title than certainly in the posts within.

If you want to go completely with the argument that comparisons = a better game, the original Devil May Cry is 90x's better than any other action game concieved. Post-DMC1's release, EVERYTHING and it's mom was compared to DMC. Rygar, Castlevania, God of war, DMC2, DMC3 (duh), Ninja Gaiden, Bujingai, Shinobi, Van Helsing, Onimusha 3, Viewtiful Joe, and on and on and on. And this is in both previews and reviews from SEVERAL game journal venue sources.

But as we know, it obviously doesn't work like that.

And the comparisons will likely continue. I promise you the previews/reviews for Curse of Darkness will be compared to DMC, quite possibly Onimusha 4 as well. It's like clock-work.

Ninja Gaiden was more fun.

That's really the only thing that matters to me.

Although, if you like one, you're better off getting both anyways.

Take it from a gamer:

Devil May Cry 3

Ninja Gaiden Black is great but it doesn't hold a cradle to DMC3. DMC3 got practically as much depth as VF4! The things you can do when you put time into the game are so sick! Dang!

Devil May Cry 3. It easily has the best system of any game of this type ever. It is so deep but not still difficult to use that you can literally play it for ever just by trying to level up your fighting styles and earning new moves. It is a much deeper game than Ninja Gaiden and you will get much more playtime out of DMC3 if you are willing to get good. If you just want a decent action game that is fun and not too hard that is easy on the eyes than get Ninja Gaiden. If you want the best game ever made in the genre and can deal with some beginning frustration then get DMC3.
