DMC3 = ZOE2

TTP

Have a fun! Enjoy!
Upon completing the game I can honestly say that if you loved ZOE2 you'll love DMC3.
Actually, DMC3 has even better bossfights and you can pull out some REALLY crazy stuff switching weapons on the fly.

Man my hands hurt.

Yeah, it seemed I wasn't going to like the game at first, but once I got pass the 3rd boss fight and strated getting new moves and stuff the game really started to kick ass.

Oh, and the ending credits are... damn I got 99 out of 100. :P

Actually before last night, I thought Ninja Gaiden was shit. But I just picked up my saved game again and I'm liking the game much better than when I played it a few months ago. But still, I'd say I enjoy ZOE2 more :P

Just another opinion...

I thought Ninja Gaiden was a MUCH better game than ZOE2, but I am a fan of both games.

But is it NINJA GAIDEN great?

Good question. Hmmm... I don't think it is but it gets quite close. I cannot think of any other game that comes as close to it as DMC3. It has to be said that the combat mechanics change quite a bit depending on the Style you choose. I went for the Trickmaster all the time so that by the end of the game I was faster than a Jehuty, dashing, warping, doublejumping allaround. In NG blocking is a very important aspect of the combat, and that's a speciality of the Royalguard style in DMC3 which I didn't dig that much.

Bossfights are on par with those of NG tho, and the camera didn't bother me as much as I feared. Once I got under Dante's skin I didn't even need to 'read' the screen but just concentrate on visual and aural clues, glimpses of flashing blades, pre-attack screams and things like that.

What I like the most was the absence of the repetitive feeling. Fights come and go in a burst of flames and sand explosions, good enemy mix add a layer of strategy and big boss fights take the most of your time within most of the missions. Very little backtracking/puzzle solving. It's action, action, action, till the end. And beyond...

ah damn you now i have to import. i'm so easy sometimes. though i think i'll replay dmc1 first.

But is it NINJA GAIDEN great?

It's about as close to NG as any game I've ever played. The gameplay is fairly frantic and gets pretty damn hardcore on the harder settings. And the plot works very well as the framework to keep the action moving in a semi coherent way.

The characters in DMC3 definately made it a lot more interesting than NG to me really. NG after a while I just totally lost interest in what's going on, but DMC3 was one of those games that kept me interested in what was going to happen next.

its better than NG because the gameplay is so malleable. it eclipses ng i think, it comes closer to being guardian heroes in terms of beat em up goodness.

I know, but still, I played the import for Bunjingai before Ninja Gaiden came out, so when I finally got my hands on it it was more of a repeat. Plus, I hate the camera in Ninja Gaiden. Though, ZOE 2 > *

The Japanese version also plays in 100% English. :) But isn't the U.S. version due out in less than two weeks anyway?

BTW, there's a cheat code to unlock the extra difficulty levels and extra outfits for Dante (don't like his look now? Pick the
DMC1 version
!) should you want to play the game on the hardest settings the first time through. (It doesn't unlock weapons or max out stats or anything like that, so it's all good to me) The code is hold all four shoulder buttons and do 360 degree motions on the left analog stick at the title screen until you hear a voice say "Devil May Cry."

Kind of a weird comparison with ZOE2 though. If you liked Devil Mary Cry 1, you'll like Devil May Cry 3. :) It's much better than DMC2, but I still don't like it more than DMC1 at this point.

I've been reading that one of the styles actually lets Dante use the Zero Shift move from ZoE2 when fully upgraded.

Good god. I think Capcom's been spoiling me! Onimusha 3, Resident Evil 4, Shadow of Rome, AND DMC3 all in the span of one year? They need to keep making games like this. I don't know how long DMC3 is, but all three of the other games have been top-notch, lengthy action-adventures with neat crap to unlock even after you're done.

Also, more people need to be playing Shadow of Rome. Its the weakest of the three, but its still really fun in a lot of ways and pretty challenging (at least if you start on HARD difficulty). Maybe I'll make a SoR praise post later on today.

Yea, Shadow of Rome is definately rock-solid entertainment. The Galdiatorial matches are plenty brutal, and once you have a handle on performing the salvos, it's very thrilling to notice your combo score just skyrocket as you whittle out gory death AND be rewarded by spectators with some of the biggest swords and maces in gaming.

MMX8 is definately a worthy chapter in the recent Capcom chronicles as well.

I didn't think DMC2 was that bad, it just needed a story. And Dante's design in it was the best in the series. I hope you can unlock those too.

I will probably get flamed for this, but Ninja Gaiden doesn't even come remotely close to the excellence that is ZOE2. So therefore, it automatically loses the battle with DMC3, from what I know that is. ;)

Can't wait, March, when it's released in Europe, will be a very beatiful month as Resident Evil 4 will come out too!!! :D

I'm on the 10th mission of DMC 3, it keeps getting better and better. The cinematics rival those of RE 4.

Edit: The weapons are fucking incredible, as well.

Even though I did not even play through ZOE2 yet, these sound like some positive impressions. :p
I can't wait to pick up my pre-paid copy come its North American release. Now for those who have played the Japanese version: how's the English voice acting? Is it as decent as RE4? I have never played a DMC game yet so I have never heard any of the voice acting of the previous games aside from brief bits during trailers and whatnots.

Exactly what I was going to say. ZoE2 is so much better than Ninja Gaiden, imo, and I have ever reason to believe DMC3 will be as well. For that matter, I think Bujingai is better than Ninja Gaiden, too.

Yep. I like how aggressive the enemies can be at times, too. Its a refreshing change. The inclusion of the combo system was excellent, and I'm really glad that Capcom decided to make just about every gladitorial match different in some way. I just wish there was more of them! Also, if SoR2 ever comes along somehow, I'd like to see a match editor. Creating your own arena battles would kick ass.

If you beat SoW and actually sat around until the end of the credits, they make it pretty obvious that there will be a sequel.
I really liked the game, so bring it on.

Anyways, DMC3 is kicking my ass and I like it. I died countless times, but I'm around mission 8 and I'm really getting the hang of things.
it's definitely challenging, though.

In regards to the voice acting, its a mixed bag. Most of the lines are pretty cheesy, but the actors do what they can.

Dante has the worst voice actor EVER. The lines are funny but he pulls them off terribly.

It's kinda funny because I think the bosses and sub-characters have good voice acting, but the main 4 character are crap.

You need to stop trying so hard to be different. Bujingai is crap, and that's a pure fact.

Actually.... I think I am going to back up his (Andy787) claim... Ninja Gaiden, especially on the grahical aspects, looks quite boring to Bujingai. Also, it plays quite repetitive, and Bujingai feels a whole lot better than what Team Ninja did with NG.

Sorry to say it, but other than the strong and very impressive graphics, NG has nothing on Bujingai which contains a whole lot more gameplay and style. Just my opinion though, although it's proven now that Bujingai being crap is no fact, it just caters different tastes in games....

Having that said, I love the Onimusha, DMC and ZOE series too... Bujingai fits with that row of good series.

Thing is, I love it too. I'm one of the three people left who still has "stylish third person action" as one of his favorite genres by far. And Bujingai is crap. Sloppy controls (especially wallrunning), crap level design and first and foremost -- it's dull! Every level has like...3 enemies in a square mile radius.

Its "style" is also completely tasteless. The flashes from his swords make my eyes bleed.

Alright, so the game has it's shortcomings... It's still a good title, and definately not crap. I for one enjoyed it a lot more than I did NG. Heck, I even enjoyed DMC2 a lot more than the generic (sorry for saying it, once again ripped off) gameplay that NG is made off. Though Ryu had some more, perhaps stylish, moves and the whole game mostly consists out of close combat I felt I was playing a DMC-reject that Capcom decided to ditch.

I had the exact same thing with Dead or Alive, also from Team Ninja, which was a rip-off of Sega's Virtua Fighter. But whereas VF4:EVO became one of the best, though underrated, fighting games ever, DOA3 and Ultimate hardly improve what the first DOA brought about. The fact that the Bouncing Breasts aspect had to be capitalized on with this game was a poor excuse to me to sell a mediocre fighter with a 'stolen' gameplay system.

Don't get me wrong, I will get NG and DOA: U in time, since they are quite enjoyable. But they are not immediate must-haves like certain other games (ZOE2 and DMC3 for example) have become.

Not to drift on-topic, but I did'nt like Ninja Gaiden so much. Main reason was I got like what... 10 minutes out of it? I liked it but I did'nt see what the buzz was about, though the next time my friend lends me his XBox I'll ask for Ninja Gaiden.

My favorite Ninja game still stands as Shinobi for the PS2, that game rocks.

As for DMC3, it's expected. I can't wait. 1 kicked butt.

Exactly. And make no mistake, I do like Ninja Gaiden as well, I just feel that it is overrated, and that there are other action games that are better.

It seems to be the same way I played Ninja Gaiden; in the end, the camera was barely a factor save for the slight shifting when enemies came from that direction. Everything else was sound and enemy stances dictating what I should be doing. DMC3 seems to be just my cup of tea.

I'd say Capcom has been redeeming themselves as of late. GO CAPCOM!

Hmm... I'll confess I wasn't interested in DMC 3 to this point, but I guess I might have to check it out after all?

I wish everyone would just stop making good games for, say, six months (or more), so that I could catch up on all the ones that have already been released that I haven't played yet :P

I don't know what to say, Vashu, but I just totally disagree more than I thought possible. Ninja Gaiden's gameplay is FANTASTIC and I found that it offered the most depth and entertainment yet seen in this genre. The mechanics are very solid and rewarding, the level design is wonderful and sprawling (a full on world to explore ala Metroid Prime or something), and there is a ton of variety. There is so much more to the game than pretty visuals...

Opinions vary, but I do think you are being EXTREMELY unfair to the game. I hope you have complted the game before forming such a harsh opinion...
