Do any of you actually wear a fedora?

Which of these socially questionable clothing items do you use?

I wear bowties very occasionally, but I'm an English teacher in a fairly upscale school district, so it's somewhat fitting.

Were I an eccentric college professor, I'd be all over that every day.

Tip #1: Good-looking people can make almost anything look good. That doesn't mean it will look good on others.

Tip #2: Good-looking clothes will look like absolute shit if they do not fit well. That means sometimes having to give up on certain items.

Tip #3: The above two tips cannot save fedoras.

Also regions and context heavily influence stuff like shorts and sandals, but eh.

I think it's just a mod messing with us, but not all shorts are created equally.

I'm being completely honest here, Is this a pic from ~ 1988? I had deck shoes like those in high school in the 80s.

I don't keep up on fashion trends, so maybe deck shoes are still relevant? I'm not seeing anything else in the picture that indicates is contemporary.

Yeah, in Texas it's common to wear pants even in 100 degree weather. Almost no one ever wears shorts. My friend who moved from Florida to Houston was stunned by this.

The majority of college-age guys dress like this now. I know it's a thing at my school at least.

This. DO you mean a Trillby OP? I have never worn a Trillby. If you mean a legitimate Fedora then yes, but only with a suit at formal events that could go with it and never just for random occasions when going out because that's dumb as hell.

I'm pretty sure it's contemporary, although I don't know the very original source. A lot of guys I know dress like that (shoes included) and I'm pretty sure there's a smartphone in the front left pocket of the salmon pants and pink shirt guys each.

I'm off to the bar with my skinny jeans, sports jersey, flat brimmed hat AND skate shoes.

Wish me luck.

Go Jays!

Fucking horrifying and awful. The worst kind of people dress like this.

Agreed. I don't know those guys personally, but I would bet my life savings that they're all total dickbags.

They just look sooooo punchable.

The majority of college-age guys DO NOT dress like this. It's mainly southern fraternity guys who think this is a good look.

Thanks to the internet this look is being emulated a bit in certain other areas of the country by clueless people who think this makes them classy or wealthy. But it's definitely not something that is widespread.

Pretty much. I have two coworkers here (Berlin): one from SoCal and one from Texas. Every summer they engage in the exact same conversation: "how do you tolerate the heat" vs "you look dumb as hell"

Well fuck me then because I'm in northern Illinois and it's definitely happening here.

Are you fucking kidding me

The first pic is just oozing so much with douche, I think I can barf looking at it. Pink shorts, ewwww

The second pic has stupid footwear and douchey gymbroness but those shorts don't bother me. There's nothing wrong with jeans shorts.

Can't disagree. Yikes.

But hell what do I know. I only ever dress in jeans (the length of which varies only by temperature) and band t-shirts and I think this looks perfect, both on guys and girls. xD

...I'm currently at college in Houston and plenty of people wear shorts. I would say the majority.

I never see anyone dressed like that ever. Lol.

Yeah that shit isn't worn in Southern Cali. Usually the south and some other places near the south.

Fucking awful.

Really? I see it in Newport all the time.

"Oozes with douche" is a complaint I'll never be fazed by. I mean, I could say the pictures you linked to ooze with punk. You'd probably find that a complement even if lots of people would mean it in a bad way. I like lots of different styles of clothing. All that saying they look like douchebags says to me is that they're successful at fitting into the niche they're aiming for.

As a 40 year old man I say the following with the utmost of sincerity...
If you care how another person dresses and or even worse, you judge another person because of how they dress, you are a pathetic person.

Eh? Punk is a style, douche is a slur.

Also they're metal not punk ;) close enough though I guess

The pacific northwest is an anomaly when it comes to style. People wear all kinds of wear shit here in Seattle. I remember a couple of years ago when socks and sandals was a thing again. I feel like I'm always behind the trends, so I usually just ignore them.

The word punk is most definitely a slur. It's been used to describe prostitutes, foolish people, and more recently young hoodlums and ruffians. That it is also a style is because punks embraced the term rather than shying away or being offended by it.

Are you saying there are proud douches out there though? :S
