Do good deals on Gamecube component cables exist?

I've been checking online stores and ebay etc... Gamecube component cables sometimes weigh in as high as £30, and there only seems to be first party available...

Xbox and Ps2 both have third party solutions on sale, some as low as £5.

Not many things make me say this but: WTF Nintendo?

There is a DSP chip built into the cable. That, combined with the fact that Nintendo believes very few people to be interested in component video, has prevented 3rd parties from creating any cables. I've heard they are very difficult to find now, so I don't think you can be too choosy about the price. They ARE high quality, though.

You know Nintendo, even their cables have to be ultra-proprietary sometimes. I too have looked around for cheaper component cables for the GC, but the only ones that exist are made by Nintendo and kind of in short supply. Ebay's your best bet, but you're gonna wind up spending 40-50 bucks for them either way.

Your only 2 options are Nintendo or ebay. Nobody makes 3rd party Gamecube cables.

And Nintendo doesn't sell them on their site, so scratch that. It's been back-ordered for ages now.

I could run to their store here in Redmond and see if they have any in stock.

Are you from the US? They have them here. Sometimes they're out of stock, but they're pretty good about replenishing it quickly.

Anyone know when Nintendo stopped including the digital port on the GC?

About Christmas 2004. If you're looking for one with the port, it's DOL-001 (the one without is DOL-101), and it says that on the box. You never know, there may be some still floating around with the Cube's piss-poor sales. And used ones could be either type--there are far more of the 001's out there than the 101's.

Also, when they removed the port, Nintendo claimed that new buyers would be able to get a unit with component-out if they wanted, via exchange or something. I've never heard anything further about that, but you might call Nintendo's customer service and ask.
