Do You Consider Messenger Bags on Men a Purse?

Replace with some pretentious product/cereal and I can see this becoming a thing with a weird offshoot of hipsters

I'm using this. Tumi called it messenger bag. I called it a man-purse, and it looks fabulous on me and my red shirt and shoes.

A purse is where you put your money and cards and goes in your bag, so those bad boys are definitely not purses. But no, I like messenger bags on men and prefer them to backpacks. I'm currently rocking a men's brown leather messenger bag because I prefer them to women's handbags. Needed something big enough to fit my laptop etc in, and most handbags don't go across the body which I prefer. It's not obviously a man bag and I've had a few compliments on it. But it's probably easier for a woman to get away with a man's bag than for a man to get a way with a woman's bag.

I recently went through this when looking for something to throw my kindle, a magazine or two, maybe a hat and gloves, water bottle in a bag and bring to work everyday. And my iPad if I needed it.

I decided to go the small backpack route. This is a Burton Day Hiker 12L. Normal Day Hiker is 20L so this is pretty small. But I think I could get a 13" laptop in it if I needed to.

To answer the OPs question: No, I don't think they are like a purse.

Let me tell you that one time I offer to carry my sister's bag. She looked at me in disgust, as if seeing a dude carrying a women's bag will send her straight to the depth of hell. :p

IT'S NOT A HANDBAG

I use this bag :

It's a simple and sober design, and there's enough room and pockets inside of it to fit in my netbook, keys, books, pens and highlighters, advil pills, my kindle, a white coat and sthetoscope. And while it isn't waterproof, it can withstand some heavy rain.
So yeah, messenger bags are quite handy.

I consider messenger bags purses and kilts skirts, anyone who says otherwise is delusional. At the same time I own both and find it amusing that any dude would feel self-conscious using either.

That's what I've been using for like 2 years :

Don't know if I could use a "regular" bag again.[/QUOTE]Me too, I had that one for my last three years in HS and I still use it every day. I rarely use a backpack now.

I've never considered them to be woman-exclusive, so I wouldn' worry about it OP.

Yeah, but who cares? Robert Downey, Jr. rocks purses all the time. They're really useful and if I did a lot of walking around on-foot, I would definitely need one. Pockets only have so much space, and stuff gets really damaged in there. Backpacks can hold more but are more inconvenient, so a purse is a good compromise. You can call it a European shoulder bag if you want!

Nah. Might need to get myself a new one actually

I tried going back to backpacks this last year. When it heats up a bit my back gets fucking drenched with sweat. The shoulder support isn't worth that. That and I feel stupid as hell wearing a backpack carrying one book and a few pieces of paper.

I use the Samsonite Quantum

Definitely the best bag I have ever owned, used and/or seen. $60 CAD and I have had it for about 5 months now with no signs of wear and tear. There is a specialty slot for tech stuff that is exta padded and has room for all your tech stuff from a 17" laptop W/ Cables+mouse+others to anything. There is then a second slot that is perfect for putting a large binder or your books and a third slot on the front for pills, keys and just general items. All 3 slots are covered by zippers which seem to be made of a high quality material as they never get caught or have ripped/broken yet. But my favorite part of it is that in the center is an opened slot where you can store loose change, your water bottle, your wallet your phone, your keys and hell even some loose papers all for easy access without having to unzip anything.

This thing also stretches alot, When I went home for the Christmas I had it stuffed to the brim and the zipper was still able to zip up with ease. Then when I came back, I was able to pack more stuff into it and it still closed with even more ease. I think I had at least 26KG in it.

...Absolutely one of my favorite purchases I made last year. I never leave home without it

I got my wallet, keys and phone in my pants pockets. The heck do I need a bag for? Am I taking a packed lunch somewhere? Extra pair of trousers in case of explosive diarrhoea? Smuggling large bricks of heroin?

No bag life.

Pretty slick. Have a link?

Um i don't think you can find it online...I got it at the coach men's outlet store. They always have 'em in stock. But i suggest waiting until they go on sale...got mine at a decent sale price but a few months later they are at like 30 bucks cheaper. Last time i checked they were regular priced.
