It's odd that at such an age I am just now discovering my true thirst for knowledge and the associated bliss I get from it. Moreso than ever in my life, I'm inquisitive, with a great desire to become ever more nuanced in opinion and perspective. Particularly with books, although I can easily see myself in a few years pursuing more adventurous "knowledge through experience" endeavors, perhaps with travel or experimentation with new cultures and hobbies.

In fact I'd dare say that the singular driving force in my life that gets me from day to day is the opportunity to learn new things and acquire further knowledge and understanding. It's a truly liberating feeling even considering who I was just a few years ago.

While I still struggle with some subjects (as much in appeal as aptitude), I'm far more driven to pursue different interests than traditional realms of daily culture.

Prolly sounds gay as hell, acutally, but I really have had a sort of enlightenment (albeit an untimely grip of years past my potential) period in my recent past and it feels like a long dormant light went on. Though I occassionally regret forgoing simpler pleasures for a night of reading, the sense of reward I get from spending the time to learn something new is far greater than a night of drunken stupidity/debauchery. Yeah, gay as hell. Anyway..

I like learning new things even if it's something unimportant to anyone else. I don't have any real desire to try and razzledazzle people with some vast intellect or something, I just like finding out new things about the world and myself. As long as I can do that, it's a good day, imo.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
Nope, never had that.

Of course, I like to know and understand things, but I never had that motivation to learnthings that drives some people to "do their best" in school and read shitloads of books and whatnot. Maybe if other aspects of my life were in line I'd be far more compelled to quench my thirst for knowledge.

I did @ 1 point, then I got into HS and then it all went downhill from there. Now I struggle daily to find enough motivation to even go to my college classes. I think I'm d00med.....

I love learning sh!t. I love that information is all around us. Kids have it easy these days cuz of the Internet IMO.

I like being informed in a well-rounded manner. I can shoot the breeze about anything. Even medical sh!t. I just got done explaining the wonders of NSAIDs. :D

Same here... I've really started to want to learn things the last couple of years. The everyday working grind felt unsatisfying after a while, so I started studying an online literature-course at university-level. It feels so good to be able to challenge myself with something out of the ordinary, something exciting that I don't do automatically every day at work. I like the feeling so much that I've recently started studying other things too. Mathematics, for example. I hated it at school, but now it seems incredibly interesting. Language, too. I'm in the process of learning both Japanese and German.

It's pretty challenging and time-consuming, though... I've struggled the last four months with getting to grips with modern literary theory, a very difficult and varied field, and the exam is next week. Oh, well. I better read. Back to Wolfgang Iser & co.!

Yes I love learning new things and feel bored when I'm in a position where I'm not learning anything new.

I'm always researching one thing or another. There's always so many interesting things to learn. I never thought Ned Flanders here would share a trait with me.

I went to WAGs boutique and all I got was a sniff
It really depends on what it is that I'm trying to learn. I like learning about modern history, such as world war, world war II, the cold war and things like that, but If I have to learn the birthdays of all the English royal family then I would probably just fall asleep. I also like learning about technology such as different computer parts and electronics, along with programming and computer skills, but my problem is that I really can't be bothered doing it. I know I have the ability to learn all these things, but I just don't feel motivated. When I began High School, i used to love working and doing that bit extra, but as I've grown up, I just can't be bothered putting in 100%, evcen though I know that these years of my life (GCSE) are the most important of my life)

I feel the same and it’s been that way since I entered college. High School was a horrible experience since the teachers were careless and discouraging, all I wanted to do was to get out of there and apply myself to something other than school. I always had a high ambition want to learn a lot of things, but I never had any real focus for it. I used to think it was a bad thing until I realized that there's nothing wrong with wanting to accomplish everything. That's not to say you can, but exposing yourself to varying types of interest could never be a bad thing, so long as you have an open mind about it and a willingness to absorb it all.

I tend to be a little more focused on the Arts, though, as I just constantly delve into vocal training, dance, random lit., and illustration. Personally, there's nothing better than having the ability to express your emotions through different mediums, whether it's written, sung, drawn, or through movement -- and it's even more rewarding when you're able to share that with an audience. I think the best highs I've ever experienced happened when I was on stage with the crowd cheering for me during a dance routine -- raising their hands up to the beat of the song and having the ability to get the crowd worked up.

In my situation, I would have never been in much of the person I am today without the current group of friends that I have -- we all share the same sort of desire to want to grow intellectually, so those efforts are largely exercised in our road trips where we end up wanting to learn how to pan for gold, compete in home-made hot-air-balloon Olympics, or constructing viable toy-boats out of local plant-life and racing them on a mountain lake, all in the midst of camping in the middle of nowhere (usually). I mean, they're simple things, but during the process of building, it's interesting to see what ideas we come up with involving our take on physics or thermodynamics -- we always argue about those design aspects of our projects. Even still, I'll always have the fastest traveling reed boat they ever saw! HAR HAR.

Reading this forum helps somewhat, too -- I always enjoy reading those little tidbits you guys find and post about the current political climate, strange science discoveries, or just world happenings I wouldn't normally find with regards to my daily work routine.

What I find the most interesting now is politics, social and ethnic issues, things you learn about and then have to develop an opinion on. I als enjoy learning skills as much as new knowlege; flyfishing, swimming and lockpicking are just as interesting to me as the new issue of Science News.

I like learning. Especiallly things that interest me. I pursue them outside of any class.

On the other hand, I hate classes where I felt I wasn't learning. Which is pretty much most of highschool.

Yeah, I do. The problem is making use of the stuff I learn. My wife always tells me I know all sorts of stuff, but I don't know how usefull it is. Maybe I should go on Jeopardy or something, perhaps I could get something for of the vast amount of unrelated facts I have learned over the years.

Anyway, I do know that this guy has a Lust for Life.........
