Do you miss when gaming used sex to sell games?

With the booth babes in particular, those are going to go away since things are way more hi profile with more $$$ all around. A line is crossed where things are serious business and you stop bringing your own bikini team to shows.

With the games themselves, there's been a number of cases where the more obvious choice of picking a prettier character would have clearly been the appropriate choice. MJ in spiderman for example was bizarre because that game skews male im sure and you'd think the would want to be extra sure the player understood the attraction to her. But they went out of the way to hit her with the woofhammer. That's totally different, and not nearly as good, reason to dial back 'sex'.

The booth babes thing is gross. I never liked any of that and always felt it was terrible cringe. I just feel embarrassed for how those women must look at the guys who are into it. It gives me a real ick feeling. It's all super pointless now that we've got free access to all the most intense porn in the palm of our hands at all times. Seeing a pretty girl in a short skirt is nothing by comparison.

As for game marketing, I wish everyone in the gaming industry would take a few years off and adopt the Nintendo model of only announcing games about 6 months out from release, and show actual gameplay when you announce them. I don't pay attention to games press anymore after we've seen so many games that were announced, had a CGI trailer, then take years to come out or just get canceled.

When we got better looking women in games from western devs? I miss that a lot. But booth babes, that never affected me at all. Wasn't me going to these E3's. I mean i guess they were in E3 videos/pics from game critics but I just watched trailers for new games.

They still do. Sex scenes are in all forms of media. Sex adds nothing other than that everyone can relate because they want it. It's humans greatest desire right beside money.

Women were whining about booth babes showing skin and now every another woman is stucking dildo in their ass in OF. We have moved forward?
This. It's not vanished, it just morphed and changed form and context. Arguably we're living in the most pornofied world that's ever existed. And no, I don't miss booth babes I always thought that's weird.

A world where somehow porn is even easier to view than ever, but we're becoming ever more puritan when it comes to showing flesh.

Don't miss it to be fair. Booth babes is whatever. Yes, they look good, but it isn't sex and it also doesn't help to get me buy whatever it is they promote.

No. Thats not how you sell a series art form
The shit I do in the bedroom is considered art! particularly fond of using my paintbrush and white. :messenger_winking:

Yes. I think it's peak hypocrisy that gore and violence are OK but as soon as some boobies are on display, everyone freaks the fuck out. Either be consequential and also ban violence or stfu.

I like beautiful women and a bit of tasteful fan service, but I'm not a fan of straight up degenerate stuff that could be labeled as softcore corn like many gacha games are pushing today. I'm against any corn in general, nothing positive comes out of it.

I don't mind booth babes, it's a normal job in comparison to modern OF filth that swallows the internet.

It was often just the sales people at the publishers and devs found it very cringe and not representing their games. I never saw the point in banning them though.

I mean it's fine.

It was a much better time though. I don't have to somehow think if a game is coded in some ideology and can simply play the game for what it is. So much of what influences games nowadays are things I do not care for.

Like oh shit so many gay characters in MGS and I don't think it's some ideological bullshit and even find them cool because they are in fact cool characters. It's just coincidentally they're gay as well. Nowadays, you HAVE to find them amazing BECAUSE they are gay. Like what?

I'm indifferent truth be told..

Yeah boobies etc aren't the worst to look at in the gaming space but I never really thought it was needed to sell games 🤷‍♂️

As long as the game is good, don't really care.

I like tits and ass as much as the next heterosexual guy, but I'm no longer stupid enough to let them sell me mid shit dressed up with fan service because I'm horny. Benefits of middle age I guess.

The booth babes seemed try hard and unnecessary to me. Or at least, if they are necessary to get attention, that's projecting a bad sign about the product. It has nothing to do with sex being bad or inappropriate or whatever.

Edit: I seem to recall some Japanese models on stage unveiling the Gamecube? I put this in the same category as the Nikke booth, it's a "show". Totally cool stuff. But like scantily clad women to personally get your attention to demo video games feels like something out of Idiocracy to me.

Not really. If your product isn't sex related, you shouldn't be using sex to promote it. At best it's literally the laziest advertising strategy possible, at worst it suggests the product is so shit that it can't be sold on its own merits.

I'm a grown man with a wife. The only ones who miss this are teenage boys and grown men who are incapable of maintaining a relationship (e.g. teenage boys disguised as grown men).

I wasn't aware that people lost their libido after marriage. :goog_relieved:

I miss the innuendos in the promos. I miss rescuing the fine princess. Shit one of my favorite games ... Maximo was all bout getting hoes .
This question make me think about how male gamers are demons for liking attractive anything.
Yes. The sexy don't change how cool the game is . Ninja Gaiden is going to be fun with Rachel in it or not. But if their was a choice to cut out the Rachel scenes. I would not vote yes.
