ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
See poll.

I mostly play older games nowadays, rarely new ones. Not sure but I'm very specific nowadays with new games.

I replay classics or games in my backlog. I buy and play new games on release rarely. This year, for example, it's only been Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. Incredible game.

I do play more new games on Game Pass / other sub services, but I treat those like rentals and only buy the ones I am nearly positive I'll want to keep around. I played through Clair Obscur on Game Pass and wish I knew how good it was before starting so I could buy it. But I was too far in and didn't know of a way to transfer my GP save to Steam.

50/50. I play around 3 games at max. 1 old stuff or replayin, 1 coop with a friend usually a mix of new or old/replay and 1 new game.

New games these days are half-finished, or have some sort of paywall associated to them....the older games are where it's at ie...Luigi's mansion, Spec Ops the line, Alpha Protocol, F-Zero GX, Blur, Sleeping Dogs...

mostly older, bit of new.

Dark Souls is a top 5 GOAT so it stays in rotation.

Just bought the remastered Ghostbusters (from 360) for $3, so I will have some fun with that.

Then as far as new, I am playing E33 of course

new games are crap. though like always I am downloading the new DOOM right now to give something else a try.....

Mostly older with a bit of new here and there.

I think out of this year's new releases I've only beaten KCD2. Played CO:EE3 for a while but it wasn't my jam. That TFB Khazan game looks neat but I'm in no rush to play it nor pay full price for it, specially when I have a massive backlog of cool retro games waiting for me.

Mostly older games sprinkled with some new ones occasionally. I rarely buy new games on launch, I tend to wait out until it's patched or on sale. When I do buy a game on launch, it's usually a remaster or a remake of an older game.

PC gamers are more like to play older or f2p games while console gamers are more likely to play slate releases.

The audience for PC gaming is not the same as the audience for Xbox/PS5 which in turn is not exactly the same as the audience for Switch. Even with overlap, those gamers are often looking for a certain type of experience on a certain platform.

On PC you may be more likely to want to boot up Skyrim with mods or WoW.

Consoles by their nature will have been sold recently and align their marketing around new games and new experiences.

There is no wonder there is a difference of tastes between platforms. It is also very common to assume competition is possible by simple appeal when many of these gamers are not reachable. It is simply just as naïve to believe you can lure Switch users on to PC as it is to believe you can lure PC users onto Switch. We are all gamers but we are not the same. There will never be a world when people abandon consoles en mass and move to PC. If moving to PC is gaming's future it will only happen by attrition. I play mostly new with a sprinkle of "old" games from time to time.

the percentage of older games is rising for sure.

currently still playing Deus Ex on my Steam Deck, and wondering where game design went down the wrong path over the years...

most of the modern games I play these days are either indy or AA games. AAA is becoming more and more synonymous with bad game design to me, with only a few exceptions.

At the moment, mostly older.

On average for the past two years I'd say my play mix is the following:
55% MiSTer / Miyoo Mini+ / New 3DS
40% Switch
5% Mobile / Mac / Apple TV

I wouldn't say that I necessarily prefer older games. There's just a lot of releases (improvement patches, translations, new cores) that keep me engaged with the MiSTer and it is nice to cycle through a few games at a time on the MM+. The MM+ is also more convenient to keep by me compared to the Switch.

If you wait long enough games you aren't sure about will be $5-20 which is a nice price.

As an example I just bought Doom Eternal which was on sale for cheap because Doom (the new one) just came out.

I'll get new-ish games if I hear enough good things about them like I did with Balatro two months ago.

Otherwise only Kojima, Fromsoft (narrative game not multiplayer), and Half Life 3 will get me to buy a game day one.

as in, the original game? How is it on the deck? Are you using any mods for graphics or anything else or did you go full vanilla?

I went full vanilla. I know there's a mod that "modernises" some of the gameplay and level design, but I never actually finished the original so I went 100% vanilla.
just installed my gog version through Heroic Launcher

runs fine on the deck. the only issues I had were missing textures in 3 spots, which is possibly a proton issue, not sure tho... but it wasn't really all that distracting.

all I really had to "set up" are the controls of course, as it has no controller support.
but the controls are relatively simple, so manually mapping them wasn't much of an issue.
and thanks to the great mouse-to-stick emulation of Steam, the game feels way better to play that way than the PS2 version for example (and in a hilariously sad way also better than some modern FPSs)

In my case I also fall in the camp of those playing mostly older games, with a few new releases sprinkled here and there. For instance, I've been playing Expedition 33, and now I'm back to The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure, as I'm slowly playing through the whole saga (last year it was Persona 4, 5 and the Ys saga, for instance).

I got a Switch so I play modern old games, what should I vote? Going for first option I guess.

New games.

I buy games at release or not at all.
As for live service, I guess some could be considered old, I suppose.

OT:

Speaking on new games, I would've expected a "Doom TDA 30K CCU on launchday" thread by now.

I can't really say that many new releases catch my eye, and the ones that do tend to go on a wishlist for now knowing I've got a backlog of games I already intend to play. I won't spend if I don't need to unless it's a good sale and I'm in the mood for that particular game. Doom 3 is next on my list, but I did start Outer Worlds recently.

Im very picky and those grandiose games I like don't release often, so overwhelmingly "old" games.

I play mainly older game/remaster.

Currently playing Clair Obscur Expedition 33 and the only other game from 2025 I want to play is Hollow Knight Silksong (it will release right ?).

Others will be older game most probably. At the moment I have Valkyria Chronicles in mind for after Clair Obscur.
