Do you rent online?

I use Gamefly, and it's kind of eh. They only ship from the west coast, and they charge hefty tax, which the DO NOT advertise, it just shows up on your bill. So you pretty much end up with no game for 7 days at a time and pay more than what they say you will. They do have a good selection though, and they do rent GBA and DS games.

I just joined Netflix last week and have been loving it, though at the rate I've been going through movies I'm afraid I will soon get "throttled," where they slow down your shipping intervals. I've had seven movies out in seven working days.
Yea, I got hit hard with the throttle. I'm considering cancelling or at least complaining in hopes they up my service. It's really bad. At one point I was one full week without any movies.

Skillz, can you go into a little more detail with the throttling? As in how many DVD's you were getting per month before you got hit with it, how things changed, turnaround times, how close you are to the DC, etc.

I'm in L.A. and the nearest D.C. is in Santa Ana. So far things have been really fast, 48 hour turnarounds mostly. But...

I'm in Nashville, TN but my dvd's come from a facility in Chattanooga,TN so I was getting them next day essentially. I was probably getting 6 dvd's a week during my first free month. I expected it to go down some, but it's gotten pretty ridiculous.

My 3 day turnaround time has turned into about 5 or 6, worsened by the fact they don't open on Saturday's. It went from taking 1 day for my returns to arrive and be processed to taking 2 and then another 2 for it to get out of their facility.

Here's what a movie in my queue says now:
shipped est arrival
02/04/05 02/09/05

So yea, it came on the 8th, which means it didn't actually ship until the 7th (it came from Chattanooga)

This is just the most recent example, it's happened a few times already and I'm only to my 4th month.

Damn, that's about my situation right now. We'll see what happens after the "honeymoon" period is over... I'm getting mostly 2 day turnarounds so far (send back a DVD on a Monday, get new movie on a Wednesday).

Where is the listing of Netflix distributions centers?

Does Blockbuster have a listing for their distribution centers, or is it just run out of local Blockbuster stores??

If it's like my situation that turnaround will extend to 3 or 4 days with the occasional insane wait of 5 or 6, depending on how fast you get your movies back to them.

Florida is in the corner of the country....why do both places put 10% of their distribution centers there?

Still good news for me since there's like 4 Netflix places in state. I'm still not sure if I don't like the Blockbuster deal better though.

Blockbuster rents the bonus discs out of multi-disc sets if I want to watch, AND I get in-store rentals too.

Waitaminute.

The BB online deal lets you rent from brick-and-mortar establishments, as well as online? I got a Gamepass which is specific to a single store and it's the same price...

Blockbuster Online sends you two coupons each month that give you a free movie or game rental. That's really the best part, since now you can keep games out for like 2 weeks at a time.

Netflix is $3 more expensive, and with no access to games whatsoever. I don't feel too great about supporting Blockbuster but they've really got all their ducks lined up these days.

I use BlockBuster online.

It is pretty good, I guess. It is a great deal with the two in-store rentals, as others have said. My turn around on movies is about four days (two days to get to them, two more to get them back to me).

I did have a little trouble with them a few weeks ago. One of my movies was broken and one plain just didn't come at all. However, I told them about it on their site and they sent two replacements out the next day, which arrived in the normal two days.

I would recommend BlockBuster.

My parents have a NetFlix account and they've never had any complaints from them either. Those movies come almost next, though, since there is a distribution center about 15 miles from them.

Overall, they both seem to be pretty equal in terms of service. Obviously if there is a distribution center around you, you'll get them faster, but they are both timely. I'd go with BB Online, though, since it is cheaper and you get the two instore rentals.
