Do you self insert in character creators?

How do you customize your main character?

I'm retarded?
There's some hate in certain games when devs self-insert themselves as characters, but do you guys create a custom char based on your looks? As prettiest as possible? As ugliest as possible? Just pick whats the default one? Or just completely random?

I personally prefer to make my chars as handsome as possible.

The only exception was the Mass Effect trilogy where the default male/fem shep were perfect:

I never bother with these. I always go default or random.
Personally, I would rather have studios make cool main characters, than having a character creation tool.

Random and as much as I love near endless options/oppertunities in my gameplay, I don't like having a near infinite amount of customizations available for a character. If soo then I just randomly adjust basic sliders to look "normal" and want to be done with it sooner than later and just start playing the game.

I'm a 35 years old man and I play as a girl most of the time. If I have to stare at an ass for hours, it might as well be that of a sexy female character. But at the end of the day I don't really care as long as the characters doesn't look like Horizon Hunter Gathering skins.

Also I 100% play with default male Shepard too !

I dont think i ever self-inserted into these, idk makes me feel narcissistic. I just go with whatever i feel they shoud look like at the time, or use the default look with a few tweaks.

Having to go through life cursed with astoundingly good looks I always prefer to make the ugliest, freakiest character possible to balance things out. It makes cutscenes all that more enjoyable as well.

I usually create the most handsome woman possible so I'm reminded of what I'll never get in life for the next 20 hours of play.

I have to put with myself enough in real life. When I play I want to be a Chad that has a 5080 and an X3D Ryzen and argues that there is nothing wrong with UE5.

I like to pick whatever class/race I feel like, and go all out on maxing the looks based on that fantasy/role without any semblance of my RL appearance.

My ten year old self at one point decided that "badass looking" translates to "middle aged buff guys with long white hair and a few scars".
I´m now 40 and kinda have stuck with that ever since but nowadays I mostly hit "random" in most char editors as I simply don`t care in 90% of games. For the remaining 10% see above.

None of the above. Most of the time thematically fitting. Never default, never myself, never random, sometimes handsome, with a tinge of ugliness depending on context.

I usually play around in the character creator for a while, then click on the "restore default" button and go with the default character.

Nah, usually just make a character that I want to play as. Someone interesting.

Mind, I did used to enjoy it back in the day when we could enter the name of the player character, to be referenced during the game.

Calling oneself "you fuckwit" resulted in some marvellously funny dialogue.

90% of the times I pick one of the defaults.
The other 10% I slightly modify the default I like best.

I ain't got no time to spend 3 hours on a character creator.

My FemShep looked like GI Jane.

The nonsense with how they came up with that official FemShep was pretty funny. Blonde Shep won the contest to decide official FemShep but wokesters cried so much they had to change the rules and vote again.

In general I have an idea for a character in my head and then spend forever trying to make it just so in the character creator. The idea always changes from game to game though. I never really think of my character in an RPG as 'me', either visually or in choosing options etc.

Depends. Mass Effect I played Shepaloo but for Femshep I customized her and used mods to make her to my preference of looks.

Dragon Age 2 went default.

Otherwise any other game I've had the ability to customize, I've never done a self-insert. I have always made the female characters good looking and the males just whatever I preferred for the specific game I was playing.

I'm not a narcissist, so hell no to a self insert, ugh. Also, handsome is lame as fuck too, and actually kinda gay.

No, no, you see the trick is to create a character that makes you giggle like a school boy who just heard a fart every time you see said character in a cutscene.

I mix it up. Sometimes I go with the default, because it's good enough and I don't want to be bothered with adjusting eyebrows etc.

Sometimes I craft a character that looks like my role (e.g., mage), so that it enhances the role-play aspect a bit.

Sometimes I pick a female character because they're more pleasant to look at from behind.

I haven't ever self-inserted. Never been attracted to that idea.

I try to make a bald guy with a beard. But if they have great hair I will do that too.

Maybe I self insert in golf games or sports games. But in Fantasy games I do not.

Depends on the game honestly, like Fromsoft games my first character is female cause my first build is usually rogue/assassin , while in mmo's I'm usually a dude representing myself in some form or another so I don't have random weird dudes trying to hit on me . Strength bonk builds are male while my dex/magic builds are usually female . When I start making secondary and alt characters is when I start to get weird . If its a purely a SP game I usually don't bother much

First playthrough I always go with something grounded and "cool" to not look goofy in cutscenes. Other playthroughs are open to anything (role-playing, ugly-bastard or goofy mf).

No, I usually go for something a bit more over the top, depending on the sort of character I want them to be. In Outer Worlds 2 I created a Dick Dastardly looking dude with a monocle who I was playing as evil. In BG3 I went with a Dark Urge character that looked like she had gone through all kinds of hell with tattoos and scars.

Never have, never will.

Nor do i care about relating to a character in that way, that entire concept doesnt make sense to me. Im experiencing a story of somebody else and thats all it is to me. They could be like me or not like me, it makes no difference, it's not me, they can be whatever.

Nah, I think one of fun parts of role playing game is to "role play" as someone else.
I tend to just create a character that looks "cool" or fun. I also often like to play as non humans if that's an option , one of the things I'd like to see in the new Mass Effect for example is for them to let you play as a Krogan, Turian or Asari.

I hate character creators. I just suck at them. I try to find the most normal looking preset.

Then for name, I tend to go with Raziel or Kane.

I just decide if I want to play as a male or female for the game, and then change the hair. That's about it. Unless there's a boob slider, that's going all the way up.
