Ok I have had Verizon DSL for many years now....I started out at 768kb/128kb speed and then a couple of years ago Verizon upgraded their packages to default at 1.5mb/128kb but didn't tell customers. You just had to call up and request your line be upgraded.

Well...they did it again.

If you are like me, and pay $29.99 a month and your service is fine so why would you ever look into it. I assume as always I will be kept up to date on any changes in my service..I was only looking because someone told me Verizon is offering DirectTv packages too...so was curious.

What did I see?

Verizon's current speeds at my price level are 3.0mb/768kb and once again, you just call in and if you line is capable of getting those speeds, they will upgrade you.

Here are their current price packages...hell I didn't know there was a 768/128 DSL package for $15 a month either....friend of mine is signing up for that tomorrow.

I called today, and my line will be upgraded within the next 24hrs.

Always nice to double your speed.

Whew, I read the thread title and thought maybe there was some scary bandwidth cap or something that I didn't know about. I just got the cheapy $15/month service because I'm cheap. I spent more on the equipment to set up a wireless network in the house than it will cost to stay subscribed for six months.

Edit: And yes, we have FIOS available here, but as I said, I'm too cheap to get it. You'd think that with that eyesore of an access hatch they left in our lawn, they could at least reduce the price a bit.

Hmm, smart move on people getting more pissed off at cable TV prices. Maybe this'll force Cable to offer a cheapo version. Horray competition.

Yeah, but it's not widespread yet.

telco rumour has it that it's not working. They tried to set it up using soft switching, but thier vendor couldn't do it, so they went to another vendor to try and do the something similar, but they way they rolled it out would have required an enterprise class hardswitch for each individual customer.

so basically, they're trying to figure out how to make what they have work without bankrupting the company.
