Do you wear shoes inside your house?

And do you let others wear their shoes around your house?

I've been told it's an Asian thing to have everyone take their shoes off before going into the house/not wear them inside...

I always take off my shoes no matter what house I'm in, but I tend to let people wear theirs inside.

Nope. shoes/socks on carpet feels extremely weird to me so I prefer to have my feet "breathe." My folks think it's weird for me to do that as soon as I get in the house, but why shouldn't I be comfortable in the place I live? (I don't do it in other people's houses though, since some people are picky about how comfortable you get)

Not typically. I wear flip-flops at least 75% of the time though being in Florida, so I usually am barefoot inside.

No, everyone knows when they come to my place no shoes, so wear a fresh pair of socks. I mosey around my place in slippers, I dont need shoes that step in dog pee, poo, gum, or other sticky goo messing up my floor.

I don't, I just take them of when I get home. I had this korean neighbors who alway left their shoes on the outside in their garage.

I prefer highly to be barefoot or just in socks while at home, but then sometimes the toe-stubbing...

*at least I get high off the endorphins after the initial delayed pain... anyway*

So most of the time it's flip-flops or breathing house shoes.l

I take'm off, my friends do too when they come over, although some have a hard time remembering they should. Inside it's flip-flops or barefoot. However, maybe around 50% of native (Dutch) people around me ask (when at my place) whether or not they should take off their shoes, while Asian/Middle-East friends/fellow students/colleagues always ask or automatically take of their shoes.

I check my shoes before I go into houses. If there's something on them, I take them off. If not, I leave them on. I don't particularly feeling a difference in the way that carpet feels against shoes versus barefoot, but I do know that my feet get very cold if I remove said shoes. Also, I like having the ability just to run out when I need to (running late, friends are downstairs, fire) without having to look for shoes.

Nearly always.

I hate people who get precious about their flooring. Remind me of people who keep the plastic wrap on their couches, or who don't use their living rooms. FFS, you house is for living in, not to be kept as a showhouse or a Habitat catalogue. If you can't be comfortable in your own home, where can you be?

I also dislike people not wearing shoes because half the time their feet stink! :lol

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
Sometimes. Growing up, there were never any rules regarding shoes in the house, as long as you just use common sense. I always kinda liked that, considering I'd go to some friends' houses and their parents would freak if you took three steps inside the door with your shoes on.

First thing i do is take off my shoes before i go inside for a drink, pick up the remote and flip through my 3 channels lord know i don't have cable tv

I'm not precious about my flooring (and anyway its my wife's rule), but I care about my kids rolling around on the floor, picking up goodness knows what.

If I'm in someones house who wears shoes, then I'll leave mine on, as that means they have a dirty floor so I don't want crap all over my feet.

I appreciate the point re. rug rats, I guess it's not something we have to deal with (family's all grown up). It's just I do know people who ask you to take off your shoes solely because they want to "preserve" their floors, their furniture etc. and it has nothing to do with kids, and it drives me nuts! If you can't afford to have people use the things you buy, you can't afford them period. With one of my friends, you walk into their lounge and the plastic is still on the lamp shades, they have blankets covering their couches and so on. I don't know what occasion they're waiting for to start using it properly! I actually find it kind of insulting to sit on a couch covered with a blanket or whatever.

i had friends growing up whose families were like that. Its fuckin wierd if you ask me. Who cares if your floor gets dirty, its not like you are going to eat off of it. Just vacuum often and i don't see what the problem is. Besides, i hardly ever wear socks and the carpet feels uncomfortable on bare feet.

Maybe you just have shitty carpet

What is the point of these threads?

It was a simple question. I was wondering.

Why does there have to be a point anyway? It's the OT. Off-Topic

No, why would you wear shoes inside your house/apartment?

Seriously. It seems to me to be a very odd, not to mention uncomfortable, thing to do. I don't know anyone here in Denmark who leaves their shoes on inside.

Musashi Wins!

FLAWLESS VICTOLY!
My house is mainly hardwood floors that need sweeping almost every day so I don't mind. When I've been in apartments with carpeting everywhere it's mandatory removal. Kind of common sense rather than custom.

We have wood floors in the rooms and hallways, but the rest of the house (greeting area, living rooms, kitchen, pantry, etc.) is all tile, so there's really no need to take off my shoes (and even if there was, the floors are really cold LOL).

When I go to my sister's place or anywhere that there is carpet though, I usually take off my shoes. I just consider it an issue of courtesy if not cleanliness. My dad used to fix up homes for resale when I was a kid, so removing my shoes before stepping into a place with carpet has been a habit of mine since I was very young.

I take my shoes off. My friends better keep their shoes on (not that I will tell them they HAVE to) because feet smell bad and if it's not my stink I actually notice it :(
I used to have slippers but for some reason I don't like it anymore.

I don't get it. Shoes are generally meant to be worn outside. To protect your feet and all that, because you're house is supposed to be clean and comfortable enough that you wouldn't fucking need to wear shoes inside! Why would bring all the dirt from outside to the inside of your home??

If you have a separate pair of *indoor* only shoes, I'd understand.

I only wear flip flops (in the summer), kung fu slippers (fall/spring), and eskimo boot slippers (in the winter), but they aren't really shoes are they?

Typically, I always take them off when I go over to someone elses house. They should not have to clean up after me if my shoes have dirt on them or anything else to mess up the floors. Plus i just think its more polite that way.
