The biggest loser form the fact that the GC is underpowered is Retro. I mean, they got a ton of talented people, but they are forced to work on that shitty Nintendo franchise that no one wants on a low powered system. I cry for them. Dammit MS, buy these guys off Nintendo, you WON'T be sorry. :(

Not going to be pretty.

But no, I don't feel sorry for Retro. They've had 2 critically acclaimed, decently selling games, which is a lot more than a lot of studios get.

There's nothing stopping the talent from leaving if they are truly unhappy. Well, except maybe for non-complete clauses. But America is a right-to-work country, dadgummit.

Anyway, if Nintendo's treating them well, then I'd say they'll be more than pleased to work with what they have. There's more than just making games with cutting edge graphics. There's making games with not-quite cutting edge graphics but getting paid just the same.

GC underpowered? Have you seen Legend of Zelda TTP? RE4? MP1 or 2? FFCC? Underpowered or underutilized?

edit: this is funnier.

My understanding is that Retro, prior to being Nintendo owned, was hell to work for. Now it's a much better environment. That's what is more important than "gee wiz you guys, xbox is slighlty more powerful. If we could develop for it, we could make Samus more shiny with pixel shaders or something."

Don't you think they should try something new and challenging? And" decently selling games'", compared to what? Crash Bandicoot? Also the second one was anything but inspired unlike the first. You think they got bored or something and didn't put much effort into it.

Yeah, read nsider.com's retrospective on retro. It's a very well-done piece.

and I don't think Retro would be deving for xbox even if they wanted to. They're 100% owned by Nintendo

GC under powered? That explains my games like TWW, RE1,0,4, Zelda TP, Metroid, Rouge leader are amung the best looking games this gen?

I feel sorry for EA employees working on Madden (no offense to any of them). I hope Retro's 4th game isn't another Metroid game.

You're making assumptions.

If they don't want to work on Metroid but Nintendo's making them, then yeah, that sucks. If they're more than eager to keep working on that franchise, then more power to them.

There's a difference between your wants and what Retro Studios wants.

low powered? Are you in next gen mode already? Metroid, RE4, Zelda TTP are some of the best looking games this gen, hands down.

This comic strip is an abortion. The main page says it's based on some sort of premise poking fun at mythology, but as far as I can tell, it's based around the idea of making a comic strip are remotely unhumorous as possible.

Crappy drawings, random character who says occasional unnecessary phrases in Japanese, a complete and utter lack of punchlines, this makes Megatokyo look like Calvin & Hobbes.

This one was at least somewhat topical.

I cry for them

I cry for humanity Monk, because your part of it.

What exactly brought you to post make such an inane thread? After all GameCube is hardly the weakest console this generation and Metroid Prime has sold well over 2.5 million copies worldwide.

I'm betting Retro are very happy that their attempts to be picked up by Nintendo were successful. They're in a great position as far as security and creativity is concerned. Working with some of the best in the business such as Shigeru Miyamoto and Satoru Iwata. Or do you think they'd be better off being bought by Microsoft so they can become the next Rare? A company suffering not only from the loss of some of their best employee's (who left due to their sell out to Microsoft) but also from the loss of Nintendo's guidance. Tell me, what creative guidance can Bill Gates give to developers such as Retro?.. "Get the f'ing game finished now or your fired"?. That would probably be the extent of his guidance...

:lol :lol

Inform yourself before spouting bullshit junior.

I do wonder if they tire of doing nothing but Metroid. I'd hate talent to leave the company because they got tired of doing the same type of game over and over again.

"Junior" and lol emoticons.. well what a rapier whit you have Cerrius. I wish I'd left school early so I could have your vocabulary..

Rare lost employee's over the years yes, but they lost yet more when they were bought up by Microsoft.

I don't feel sorry for a company that refuses to let Samus' fucking morph ball jump without the aid of bombs. WTF RETRO!?

I have a feeling you've played neither one of them.
