Does anyone else hate it when websites get redesigned?

Ever visit a website for a year or two, then one day they have a new layout and you hate it? AICN went through a redesign and I hate it. It seems too cluttered and loud.

Any one of your favorite websites go through a change and now you hate the website?

I still maintain that the worst redesign in web history was for AMG, All Music Guide. I think it's been almost two years now, but I'm still not over it. I used to use that site ALL THE TIME - it was so user friendly and extremely fast. Since the redesign, it's ugly, less convenient, and really fucking slow. Most of the time I just go to Amazon now if I need to look up a tracklisting or something.

Oh yes, and there was a Faye Valentine website a while back that had some AWESOME wallpapers for other anime as well (FLCL, most notably)...but then they removed that section. WTF?!

I don't know if this counts as a complete redesign
But when tv.com brought out tvtome.com

Well the new layout sucks and makes it harder to search for a show you don't know exact details on.

I just make a Firefox search thingy against AMG, using this URL:

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?opt1=1&P=amg&sql=%s
and with the keyword 'allmusic'

so in the toolbar I just need to type "allmusic [artist name]"

unfortunately they dont accept spaces nicely, so use a dash.

Yes! This is the site that immediately comes to mind, if only because it's a very recent example. I hate the new layout. The old version was definitely more functional.

Another site that comes to mind is TheForce.net. The most recent design is just very cumbersome in my mind. I've basically stopped going there just because it's a pain in the ass to dig through all the different sections just to find a specific hosted feature. Plus, I've hated how as the site has aged and grown, it has covered news bits that are increasingly obscure and tangential to Star Wars.

Of course, there are other redesigns that I've initially disliked just for the sheer change but come to find far better, like Dark Horizons.

What Penguin said.

I hate TV.com! all clogged with useless crap.

I am totally a function > form guy. Quick and simple are the best sites.

Speaking of Daily Radar...

Ziff's 1up.com is maturing nicely and Future is even rumored to be looking at relaunching Daily Radar (!?).

TV Tome had a horrible redesign. I didn't like the forums, but at least the old design was simplistic and easy to load and search when checking for episodes of shows or something. But the new "futuristic" design is horrible for a ton of reasons (namely longer loading, rough navigation, and its missing things like goof guides). Bleh.

It would depend on the redesign; point in case, The Onion is now a lot easier to navigate. AICN has always had one of the most atrocious site designs to begin with (and content); similarly most gaming websites (IGN, Gamespot, 1up, Daily Radar) have horrendous layouts. There are a number of websites that just don't "get it". Thankfully though, with the advent of RSS, I generally only have to deal with website layouts 40% of the time or so, so it's become far less of an issue to me.

How about IGN???

I liked n64.com's layout. Then it went to the original IGN layout which was acceptable. Then they went clutterfuck with their current garbage flash filled layout...
