My dad says he wants this peculiar thing for his birthday, but I've never heard of it (perhaps because I don't watch too much TV these days). It is some sort of combination club / razor knife. You put it in your car so that if you ever drive off of a bridge or into a lake or something, you use the knife part of it to cut off your seatbelt and then use the other part of it to smash open your car window and escape.

Yes, it really does seem a little ridiculous :lol

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I'm assuming it's been on infomercials or late-night commercials or something.

Where should I look for this thing? Is there any chance of getting it from the auto section at a Wal-Mart or K-Mart or something? Or is it more of an upper-end Sharper Image/Brookstone type of thing?

No, but you could always get a hatchet and keep it under the driver's seat. Dunno why you wouldn't be able to unbuckle your belt, but you could use the hatchet to cut it, then use the back end to break the glass.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
That sounds like something you'd see in a 4am infomercial on some shitty channel that doesn't exist.

And what prevents you from just unbuckling your seatbelt when you're underwater? You suddenly have to turn into James Bond to get out of your seat?

ferrets ferrets ferrets ferrets FERRETS!!!
You know, if your car was so bent out of shape that you couldn't even unlock your seat belt, your legs would probably be trapped in the wreckage and you wouldn't be going anywhere anyway.

If this thing does have an infomercial, it's got to be a hoot to watch their dramatizations of it coming in useful.

You'd just have to have twice the nerve of boulder-arm guy.

EDIT: Also blood.

there have been several cases in florida where a car ran into a shallow ditch and the people in the car drowned cause they couldnt get their seatbelts off.. and/or the doors were pinned to the ground.

thats why my sis has one..

Does anyone know if this device is available at retail stores? Or at least available at an e-commerce site I can trust? Some of these outlets look like cruddy fly-by-night operations. I would really be annoyed if I got ripped off or the lazy jerks just couldn't get it shipped here in time for my dad's birthday.
