Does Devil May Cry 3 hurt your hand/wrist?

Maybe I am playing the game wrong, but after short periods of playtime, my right wrist/hand begin to hurt immensly, and I can barely play the game any longer

Maybe I am just mashing the guns too fast... but I look so cool doing it :(

Or maybe I am not masturbating enough

Does this happen to anyone else? Are we developing carpal tunnel or something?

This game is pretty badass by the way.

On the superior edition (tm), anyway

yes, dmc 1 and 3 are both terrible for this. Took me a year to finish the first game becuase of this problem. I could only stand 10 minutes of playtime at once becuase my wrist and thumb would be in such pain afterwards... possibly becuase I insist on mashing the fire button myself instead of turning it to auto fire...

I believe I said no Wario64's allowed to answer my question polepuffer

Is that an option?

If i were you i'd stop playing and buy a new dress. Also i think autofire is only possible in easy mode.

Yes. Fast action games in general for me. Fighters can start do this to for me. The incredibly fast series of movements is getting more and more of a strain for me than I use to have as a kid. DMC3 really being a big one.

That doesn't even make sense

If you're gonna post wrongdoings then just get out, you aren't even trying

Your wrists can't handle the game, my girlfriend had the same problems with alot of games.

Ya it wears on my hands & wrists after awhile. >_<; I think maybe turning off the rumble would help some since its so darn powerful in this game.

The second level music is pretty cool.

WTF you're on mission 1 and your wrists are already hurting? :lol

Basic advice, ease up on the guns. If you're not gunlinger they don't do -that- much damage. Rely more on melee attacks.

Stop mashing /\ also, if you're going to do a 3 hit combo, press /\ /\ /\, if you're going to do a 5 hit combo, press /\ (pause) /\, /\

I see people play action games and the character is doing a 3 hit attack, yet they press /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\, don't do that.

Weaksauce. Ninja Gaiden would totally fuck up your hands then :lol

Funny thing is when Ninja Gaiden came out I could take it all just fine, but now it seems just a few years later I can't keep up well anymore and DMC3 got to me by the second mission and fighters were starting to wear my hands pretty easily.

My experience would suggest you're playing it wrong. My guess is you're trying to slam home as many combos as possible as fast as possible, SO your forearms hurt and that spot at the base of your palm by your thumb aches and bunches up, right? If so, yep, definately playing wrong. A way to grow out of it is to slow down and to practice controlling the combos, "i'm going to do Combo X", then sit and preform combo X, "i'm going to do Combo Y", then sit and preform combo Y. In other words, sit a play with engine and instead of trying to beat the level. That worked for me and taught me how to play the engine right, arms/hands never ache now.

This person I've never seen post before on GAF is correct. DMC3 isn't spontaneous, all enemies / bosses follow the tried and true element of patterns. They make animations and sounds that just screams "okay, player -- I'm going to do this move now, now be a smart little bitch and evade, or counter, or just-guard, or parry, or teleport" --whatever method you want basically.

that's what the turbo controller for :)

I think you're just jokingly saying that, but just to reitereate, nope. That's the tricky thing about DMC3. The mobility, speed, and freedom the engine gives you normally makes you think that in order to do more damage or get more hits you have to hit the buttons harder, faster. This is how most people start playing DMC3 wrongly (IMO). "Gotta hit the buttons hard gotta press faster! They're crowding all other me! Graaa," getting all tense and anxious and just going nuts. The reality is the engine is the complete opposite, in that you need to judiciously use your combos. That's why I said you should just start out trying to play with and learn the combos and forget about the mission or surviving or whatever, then as you get the idea try and beat the level. After enough play you start getting a feel for the combo timing and that'll inately slow you down from the rabid spasmatic monkey state most start out in. More over as you start to memmorize the combos you're not as pressured to try and belt something out and you relax more, which slows things down more so and relieves the stress on your body.

?

How am I on mission 1 when I said [second level], and the game itself even says [Mission 2]?

I haven't even been playing the game long, I only popped it in and did the first stage...

I'm playing Dragon Quest 8 mainly at the moment

Uh actually I played Ninja Gaiden just fine

The game has never hurt my hand. It's like C-Warrior said though. Just don't wail on the buttons like you are having a seizure and be more effecient with your button presses. I've put in about 30 hours of play into DMC3 and never once have I had anything remotely close to the symptoms described by Demi.

That happens to me everytime I start a new DMC. But as I progress through the game, it doesn't happen anymore. Don't know whether it's because I'm better at the game but because my wrist/hand becomes conditioned to the stress.

Use both hands.

How? Ninja Gaiden's not as strenuous on the hands as Devil May Cry 3.

Initially, Devil May Cry 3 did fuck my thumb up something horrible. But after having played it for 90+ hours, my thumb whipped itself into shape. I think it has a six pack now.

When I play with Dante I'm fine. Sometimes when playing as Vergil I cramp my hand a bit after an hour or so... because I hold the controller in a very unnatural way to better exploit the fact that he can deploy his phantom swords and attack at the same time.
