Does SFV Juri have the worst theme song in fighting game history?

I like Juris theme. The only problem is you barely keep to hear it in a fight. They needed to move things around so it was mainly just the fast part of it.

I genuinely like the song and it's really fun music to listen to while playing matches. It's a little boring but there's worse songs in Street Fighter V than that, let alone fighting game history.

Edit: Thinking about it, Juri's SSF4 may have been worse. There's part of that one I really like (and that's the song I associate with Super Street Fighter 4 when I think about the music of that game) but it's the exact opposite of this theme. Her SSF4 theme is so over-the-top and in your face, especially the weird screaming noises, that it's kind of hard to listen to.

bounced in expected some terribleness.. this theme song is great. I poked around at some themes and Bison's seems to be terrible though. Opinions whatnot.

People saying it's cool techno or whatever, especially people saying that it'd be better without her sfiv theme in it, are missing that it's supposed to be a character theme and not some random chill track. I like many types of music, and I certainly don't mind electronic music, and in basically any other context I'd think this is pretty good music, but as a character theme it's rotten.

If you played this for me outside of the context of the game I would have no clue it was supposed to be a character theme. Even now that I've heard it a bunch. I'll never be able to hear this song and associate it with Juri immediately.

Melody is an important element of association and this song doesn't do itself any favors in that regard. In that way I think this is an incredibly poor character theme, and I wish they had done her justice.

I also completely disagree with the notion that it fits her character better. SFV's iteration of Juri is far more aggressive than SFIV and this song is hilarious in that regard. Maybe that's more SFV than Juri, but yeah. Give me a fitting song with a strong and fast melody over this mostly nondescript electro thump that takes me 60 seconds to recognize.

edit: It's probably not the worst in history, but it's the first song that made me think "why the fuck would they do this?" If they wanted to make a chill track they should have used a stage theme for that, not a character theme. Not a character theme of one of the more aggressive characters in the game.

i think its fine.

i certainly wouldn't want a whole soundtrack of it but when this exists among a whole bunch of much more energetic tracks i really appreciate the contrast.

If this thread is any indication, most posters are too simple to appreciate it.
Really? You are stooping to calling users "simple" for not appreciating something that you like? This is a very elitist attitude, and honestly I'm surprised to see it coming from a moderator. The irony is that the thing you are defending IS simple. It's a beat, some strewn in electronic percussisons and what little melody is there is from the previous game. This kind of music requires little effort and musical knowledge to make. No talent went into its creation. You are going to refute this.

Calling people simple for not liking this is like calling someone simple for not liking "The Room", and I'm not talking about liking it ironically, unless that is what you are doing?

The song is simple, but simplicity in music (and creative work in general) does not correspond with value. To say that no talent went into it is really shortsighted.

As I mentioned above, I think that on its own this song is good and enjoyable to listen to if you enjoy techno. I just personally think it sucks as a character theme since it really gives me no hook to associate with Juri other than the incredibly thin hook they brought over from her IV theme.

Kinda reminds me of the King of Fighters 2001 OST, which was also pretty different from everything else the series has delivered over time.

I don't think Juri's theme is bad though, just not the same type of music as the rest of the game.

it's one of the better themes imo, possibly fav

if the rest of the soundtrack sounded like juri's, maybe id leave it on. i usually play multiplayer games to techno/electronic soundtracks and despise that traditional videogame music sound

If you want real bastardization remixes of older themes, check out some of the damage that KOF has done.

Yeah, you can't have a worst fighting game song thread without pulling out the Eolith KOF games. 2001's are all bland, crappy original compositions, while 2002's are complete hack jobs of older KOF themes.
2001:
drums & farts
no it doesn't get any better
there's a melody somewhere behind those absurdly loud crappy guitar samples
2002 (originals included for comparison):
a bassline made by a gorilla (as opposed to sweet acoustic samples)
good samples are beyond our understanding (if only we were SNK from 2 years ago)

I don't know if it's the worst, but it's annoying. Like someone here said, it's all build up, no drop. Even once it starts to get going, it immediately stops again and goes back to the subdued, minimalist house it had going before. Which is fine to me, but I just keep wanting it to go somewhere, it's like the song's just edging you. Constantly teasing you with the idea that something might happen, that all this build up will eventually pay off, but it never does. It'll just keep making you beg for a musical climax, making you hope that eventually all this teasing will go somewhere.

Actually, maybe it's perfect for Juri.

It isn't bad, but it's not something that reminds me of her.

Hell, I can't even hear it mid-battle and I am a Juri player. I could hear at the beginning and at the end of the fight. Took me this video to properly hear it.

It's drum and bass. It's all about fat bass and syncopated beats.

Never heard it before - listening now and I'm actually kinda digging it. Sounds ominous, would make for a good final level/boss theme.

Honestly, the only questionable themes are Laura's & Juri's. The rest are at least decent, which is more than I can say about SFIV's OST.

SF5 has themes that stand out cause they suck.

SF4 had themes that stood out cause they were actually good.

Says a lot about the quality of the OSTs for both games.

I agree with this a bit. Like I dig the build, and I like when the melody synth comes in, but when it looped I was like "... oh that's it". Not bad but could be better.

I love slower-buildup techno as well, but it's not really well suited for a fighting game at all. There's no point in a minute straight of UNTZ UNTZ UNTZ UNTZ if the round is over by second 40.

I'll partially agree with this, but I still think it's one of the better songs in the game. Not a great soundtrack.

It's a lot better than SF4s. SFV has a lot of good music that doesn't get mentioned for some reason.

It will be now.

Some of my personal favourites include:

F.A.N.G's Theme

Ken's Theme

Birdie's Theme

RASHIDOO

Lair of the Four Kings [When those vocals kick in at around 0:38 .... oh boy]

Union Station Alternative[The most underrated track in the game IMO]

EDIT: And wth, I'll throw this one in too. If you'd told me this is a track from SF4, I'd have believed you but because every track in this game isn't an electronic nightmare, it still fits IMO.

for some reason it reminds me of that matrix dance party scene in zion. which is funny cause that part always made me laugh because of the music.

SFV's music is such a big step over IV that I'm a little surprised at the comments in this thread. It's no 3rd Strike but the OST is pretty well received even if the game itself isnt.
