Does the GamePass Ultimate conversion trick still works?

My Ultimate ran out in 2023. I just read the idea right now is to stack 36 months of GP Essential (since the XBL doesn't exist anymore) and get 1-month Ultimate promo for 1€, you will then be prompted to exchange the 36 months for 18 months of Ultimate, essentially coming more or less to 9€/month. Can anyone confirm they have done that recently in such a way?

I dont think so. You cannot even do a direct MS Rewards points redemption for Gamepass. You need extra steps of redeeming for MS Points and then using the points to buy Gamepass subs

Phil what have you done?

Half the answers in the thread are completely wrong.

Yes, the conversion still works. The conversion ratio for Ultimate is 2.5 to 1, where three years Essential gives 14.5 months of Ultimate plus the month fully paid.

So $75+$75+$75+$30 = $255

$255/15 = $17 month final effective rate.

Conversion ratio from Essential to Premium is 3:2, where three years Essential will give two years Premium at final rate of $10 month.

Adding to what Tobi said, at least for me in Germany the 1€ Ultimate promotion isn't there anymore for an account without a subscription, there are the options for 1 month of "essential" for 1€ and 14 days of "premium" for 1€.

Can't tell you if the upgrade to ultimate for 1€ is still there.

I appreciate you doing this math.. It really truly highlights what an absolutely godawful deal Gamepass is these days.

The best play now is just buying a month when there are a few games you want to play and then ensuring you cancel/turn off auto renewal.

It was never a damn "trick", the entire process was outlined in great detail in the terms and conditions.

It obviously still works, because it was never a trick, but the conversion rate has been lowered drastically, you now only get 40% remaining time.

There was a "trick" involving exchange rates (or something like that). adamsapple adamsapple used to post that periodically.

But you are right. This is just the normal conversion method.
