Does X360 use Media Center Xtender or Media Connect

Just to muddy X360 streaming waters further:-

According to Microsoft, WMC2 connects the Xbox 360 to home PCs as well as online services such as Napster and Yahoo and allows streaming of digital content, including images, music and video. PlaysForSure verified digital media receivers such as those from Roku and D-Link are supported as well, the company said.

So which is it?

Media Connect 2 will work on vanilla XP (download later this year), while Media Center Xtender will require a Media Center edition OS.

I for one wish they'd make it absolutely clear what X360 supports and uses.

It really doesn't seem clear at all. Just been at eurogamer, and the comments have lots of folks who *think* that the streaming will work of vanilla XP...

Of course Media Connect software still does not support Xvid or DivX so no advance there. :lol

They've said xtender over and over again so im guessing its that.

That's what I think as well, however it's fairly confusing

First the say that media (including video) can be streamed from XP machines, then it's only non-video media from XP machines (missing Video blade on dashboard shots), now that Toms Hardware article mentioning Media Connect.

Maybe it supports both? If MS have Media Connect that can stream off vanilla XP machines, why would they specifically cut it out of X360? Seems odd to me.

If my memory desn't trick me, they already confirmed that it uses Windows Media Extender to connect to Windows Media Edition PCs, but it also can connect to Windows XP PCs that have Media Connect installed.

This is correct. The normal built-in streaming features use Media Connect but doesn't support video and other features of MCE. It also has a built-in full Media Center Extender.

That article probably has the most info on the dashboard

isn't Media Connect just MS's fancy name for a UPnP server? Surely the software itself will have to handle video, otherwise nobody will use it?

What I want to know is how 'crippled' Windows Media Center Edition is compared to say.. Windows XP pro. If I wanted to have all the features of XP Pro (Mainly the system administration stuff), would I need to dual boot, or does MCE have me covered?

Yes

Media Connect supports video, but the "Digital Media Receiver" (xbox 360 in this case) doesn't have to

I was thinking about getting Media Center when 360 came out and didn't think about that. Unfortunately, it seems Media Center is based on XP Home and not Pro which makes it unusable to me.
