Steam version of Assassin's Creed Shadows does not require the use of Ubisoft Connect

If only they could do that for their legacy titles. I hate having to install Unisoft connect when I want to play AC2 or Rayman Legends.

Inquisition was also trash

You're entitled to your terrible opinion, and while being CONSENSUS game of its year (which Dragon Age Inquisition is) doesn't guarantee the game isn't in fact trash, like God of War 2018 and The Last of Us Part II are, Dragon Age Inquisition would still win GOTY last year just by releasing the way it still was in 2014, graphics and all, amazing game.

. I actually got a free copy of Shadows through a promotion (probably how I got all of those others) but because its an ubisoft connect game, I won't be playing it.

Actually, this is fake news. The game still requires an Ubi shit account. The game is build with Ubisoft Connect inside the files, you cannot avoid it

You can't avoid this bullshit.

That's why I go to the source, I have connect "pass" for 1 month.
Yeah, I wasn't aware that the Steam shop's warning of 'requires third-party account' meant a stealth install of Ubisoft Connect. It should mention that, as I don't know if I can safely remove it and still run the game.

This story is lying bs from Ubisoft, game requires unconnect even on steam. Really hope this company goes under.

It will probably be reinstalled once you try to play the game again. But maybe not...

I just tried removing it, in the name of science, and... bollocks. Now I have to either reinstall the game or download a separate Ubisoft Connect installer. Steam really ought to warn people about this.

One thing I wish Steam would do is stop the third party launchers period.

Can they do that? I've often wondered if they have the authority to - not a PC gamer so I'm genuinely asking. For the sake of customer convenience and ease, it would be great if they could.

They could do the same as gog...yep. But than they might scare away a few publishers/games (and lots of mp titles). Gabe really goes the 100% neutral route here and leaves it to the gamers battle it out with the devs....and its not the worst approach. Its also upto the gamers to make clear to these companies that they prefer steam (or gog) over any other store, but without this "launchception" stuff. Quite a few devs can read the room way better than Ubi & co. and offer their sp-games on gog and "drm-free" on steam....they are listening to what their customers want and usually get rewarded for it. For me thats a huge thing. If I see a game with 3rd party launcher and denuvo on top...most of the time thats an instant "nope" for me (at least at release).
