So… what is the difference here? Just one less software to install but still a login requirement. Rage ensues…but you will still need to link your Ubisoft Connect account to Steam.

Inquisition was also trashIt is a much lower quality franchise, yes (at least before Veilguard).

. I actually got a free copy of Shadows through a promotion (probably how I got all of those others) but because its an ubisoft connect game, I won't be playing it.
Please buy our game.
Yep. Just like Veilguard.
Which I would be perfectly fine with. They are really desperate lol
I bought this on Steam yesterday, and it's given me a free copy of Ubisoft Connect.

Yeah, I wasn't aware that the Steam shop's warning of 'requires third-party account' meant a stealth install of Ubisoft Connect. It should mention that, as I don't know if I can safely remove it and still run the game. You can't avoid this bullshit.
That's why I go to the source, I have connect "pass" for 1 month.

I just tried removing it, in the name of science, and... bollocks. Now I have to either reinstall the game or download a separate Ubisoft Connect installer. Steam really ought to warn people about this.It will probably be reinstalled once you try to play the game again. But maybe not...
One thing I wish Steam would do is stop the third party launchers period.
They could do the same as gog...yep. But than they might scare away a few publishers/games (and lots of mp titles). Gabe really goes the 100% neutral route here and leaves it to the gamers battle it out with the devs....and its not the worst approach. Its also upto the gamers to make clear to these companies that they prefer steam (or gog) over any other store, but without this "launchception" stuff. Quite a few devs can read the room way better than Ubi & co. and offer their sp-games on gog and "drm-free" on steam....they are listening to what their customers want and usually get rewarded for it. For me thats a huge thing. If I see a game with 3rd party launcher and denuvo on top...most of the time thats an instant "nope" for me (at least at release). Can they do that? I've often wondered if they have the authority to - not a PC gamer so I'm genuinely asking. For the sake of customer convenience and ease, it would be great if they could.

It was no problem, I just grabbed the Ubisoft Connect installer from the Ubisoft website. Shows it really is the full version of Ubisoft Connect, not just some lite version packaged with the game.Damn.
Reinstall the client or try this:
