Does XP 'forget' your folder view settings?

How do you keep windows XP from screwing with the view options for certain folders? It seems like every day the folder views randomly change for directories I frequently open...

sometimes I don't even get all the options... like 'My Pictures' allows me to have a filmstrip view only 50% of the time. It's not a big issue... just kind of annoying. I was just wondering if there was a simple solution that wasn't "Reformat, then Reinstall XP"

I've been thinking about posting on this exact topic for years now...

Really messes up my file browsing sometimes.

There's a registry setting you can set to increase the number of folder settings it remembers. i can't remember what it is offhand.

My biggest gripe after switching from Mac to Win was this. How to fuck could an OS forget how I want to view my folders? BAstids.

I believe it only remembers settings for the last so many folders. You can change it, like someone above said.

I'm glad I'm not the only one this pisses off. :) I'll keep my eyes open for the registry thing... sounds logical.

Yes and yes.

Someone pleeeeeease find out the registry thing? My folders get all kinds of messed up every single day due to having four websites worth of stuff among other things. >_<

Disable "remember folder settings" & "view as list" is heaven!!
The truth shall set you free!

Another trick would be Folder Settings > File Types > Folder > Advanced > Mark "explore" > Set default.

This will make the tree view thingy standard when you open any folder.

Here's what I do:

arrange your MP3s like this:
Artist >> Album >> MP3s

name the MP3s using a "01 - Song Title" naming convention

been doing that since the Napster days =)

I tried the registry change a few months ago, but it started "forgetting" a few months later and now changing it doesn't do anything =\
