DoJ to sue colleges that "discriminate against white applicants" w/affirmative action

Elections matter. I'd like to thank all those progressives out there who were too principled to vote for the candidate on the ballot. Some of us will be feeling this more than others for a LONG time.

Where the progressives are and didn't vote would not have affected this election. This was an electoral college and gerrymandering fucking the majority of people in the country.

Since this administration is crossing off the list of 'shit racists complain about on Facebook' how long until we get the federally funded 'White Entertainment Television' channel?

I know this is going to sound like a conspiracy theory but I truly feel/think that the old boys club saw the Obama Admin as a threat to their establishment. This (Trump in general) is a way to turn the tide and reclaim what ever they think they may have lost be it social, financial, or political. Just a thought.

LOL could it be any more obvious how racist these fuckheads are? A war on minorities though the legal system... christ.

OT: The vast majority of my family would fully support this policy, they ultimately feel that affirmative action is wholly a racist policy against qualified whites.

A lot of asians actually dislike affirmative action as well since they tend to be an overreprrsented group in colleges

I don't understand this thought process at all. We are already overrepresented, which means there is no need to be salty about anything.

Aren't the majority beneficiaries of Affirmative Action white people in the first place?

But the battle to erase race from the application review process for admission comes with an interesting paradox: "The primary beneficiaries of affirmative action have been Euro-American women," wrote Columbia University law professor Kimberlé Crenshaw for the University of Michigan Law Review in 2006.

White women benefit the most from the law, and are some of the law's most ardent critics.

Next month: Sessions and his lackeys sue a HBCU for making an environment that's hostile towards racist white young adults.

Turns out we may not even need much of a "what if" if things keep going this way.

They clearly won. They won when we botched reconstruction. They won when you have heavily minority school districts filled with schools named after the local Klan town's favorite confederate generals.

Also critics of AA say that it brings unqualified students of color into top schools but that doesn't explain how they graduate. If you applied to 10 top schools and didn't get into any maybe you aren't a top student.

White women would support something that goes against their best interest?

No.

At the rate things are going Black people and other minorities will be lucky if we can vote in the next election.

On topic though, I remember the case of Abigail Fisher who took her case all the way to supreme court because she believed that she deserved a spot at university even though she didn't have an outstanding resume or grades. Affirmative Action was almost taken down because of a mediocre white person.

We have HBCU's in this country for a reason. There was a reason why we, African Americans had to create our own universities. And with the way this admin is going, we're going to need more of them.

And I'm sure all the underqualified white students that got in will be ignored while they focus on the few black and latino students just like she did.

There are lots of Asian American students who come from underprivileged backgrounds who might get treated the same as upper-class Asian Americans.

White candidate gets picked - "Well they were just the best candidate."

Minority candidate gets picked - "This is clearly racially motivated, how dare they!"

At extremely selective institutions, wouldn't that background be conveyed via essays, statements, recommendations, and interviews?

In holistic admissions settings, it's pretty hard to just hand-waive all of that information.

Goddamnit. Everything about this administration is so despicable. They might as well just say "Ok, here's the deal. We just don't like black people. Y'all were asking for it electing a black guy. We have 8 years of uppity black-mannery to make up for now. Deal with it."

That would at least be honest.

Joe Six-Pack: posting for the common man
Thanks every single asshole that voted Trump cause he had an R next to his name, because "Hillary was corrupt", Hillary wasn't Bernie, "to prove a point" or because they otherwise agree with some part of his "policy."

This is fucking ridiculous and I hope whatwver judge gets one of these cases laughs the DOJ out of the court.

Yup. Top schools do not just toss applications in the trash when they see white or Asian. People are unwilling to admit that they are a bland applicant and will assume that a student of color at a top school only got there because of AA.

The whitelash continues.

It's only fucking July of the first year. Scary to think of how much worse this country can get.

Have we officially reached shithole status as a nation yet?

I always hope that the best candidate gets picked but too often there are too many factors outside of the candidates control to allow this to happen which is why affirmative action exists. I do hate quotas for admission though but it's the reality of a fight against institutional racism.

Racial/ethnic quotas for admissions do not exist. They've been illegal for decades.

AA is about expanding the applicant pool. But race alone does not give anyone a leg up or leg down when it comes to a decision. Background will. Experiences will. Challenges will.
