Dolphin - Emulating Wii and Gamecube Games

Eh not really. I resized to prevent having an even bigger wall of images more than to smooth out the pictures. I was playing full speed at 1920x1080 and 16xQ CSAA with those pictures... you'd have to dig pretty far to find a jaggy. Plenty of other imperfections though. Muddy textures ruin a lot of TP's appeal today.

Can I get your dolphin build and settings please? The build I'm using has this weird glow effect that I can't seem to get rid of even after trying all the obvious solutions.

Also, while I'm here, does anyone know where I could get a save file from after The Thieves Hideout dungeon in A Link to the Past? My emulator fucked up and I lost a dungeon or two of progress :(

I got a graphics card upgrade from a 6870 to a 7950 recently. Same setup otherwise. Is there even a point in trying out Dolphin again, or is it all about CPU prowess when you're at a 6870 and upwards?

TP has a glow in a lot of areas, something to do with the lighting. Are you sure it's not that?

My build Is like a year+ old... Haven't played since Skyward Sword came out.
Yeah my issue with those pictures in response would just be that they're way too blurry.

If it were that resolution, with the clarity and sharpness of the downsized shots, I'd be hopping in to play right now.
I think I switched from Q CSAA to 4x internal res near where I stopped playing (snow temple), but I don't have many screens from there. It's been a while, but i think i played through Skyward Sword with cleaner AA, probably why it looks sharper.
Great shot!
Thanks haha. I had fraps set up to take a lossless .png every two seconds. Same for Skyward Sword. I have like 30GB of Zelda screenshots saved on an old hard disk... Kind of sucks to sort through.

Hey guys, Looking for some help.

I've been in a Zelda crazy lately. Im trying to replay all games. Im stuck on Wind waker seeing i don't have my NGC or Wii just the Wii u. Im trying to play it on my PC using Dolphin Version 3.5. I wanna play with the best specs i can on my pc. Here is my PC

i7-3770K
Nvidia GTX 550ti
8GB DDR3
using a 23in monitor

Ive been messing with the configs for a few days and i can't get it to look amazing, infact it keeps looking worse.

This thread caught my eye the other day and I thought I would give it a try.

Any specific Settings for Twilight Princess I should know? I have it at 1080p with the DPS LLE and 4X and 2X but the game has like a weird light around everything, like a bloom effect. and it seems to slowdown randomly. Any help is much appreciated.

It's mainly in the areas of Twilight, yellowish glow thats quite annoying. Maybe it just happens.

Alright thanks for the clear up guys. now something that is really bugging me. I am trying to play my wii backup with my xbox controller but it seems the wiimote segments are impossible with the sticks on this controller? it just always is on the bottom of the screen.

The image just being resized wouldn't indicate that it wasn't real time, it's the same effect as running the internal res at a higher resolution than what your monitor's res is.
sorry about the nitpicking, but is that technically correct?
I'd imagine the method used to resize the image can make a difference on the quality of the end result, with some methods being more computationally expensive than others. Maybe the difference is insignificant with today's GPUs, but it's possible downsizing in realtime vs. doing it offline in photoshop could lead to slightly different results.

It seems downsizing screens of TP helps hide some of the muddy textures as well as upping the contrast for a better overall perceived image quality at 720p.

Personally i'm just curious to see what it would look like running in dolphin.

there are some nice shots from later in the game a few pages back, achieved through save-state spamming ;)

edit: after looking over some of those screens, it seems to me TP is more in need of an HD remake than WW, but I can see why Nintendo chose to remake WW instead.

Hope you guys don't mind. Here is one more batch of screens, this time SS at 1920x1080. Much better looking game.

Awesome screens Crunched... im in the process of playing the game on dolphin but i've been having trouble with the IR function of the wiimote... it is skipping like crazy... Any chances you've ran into the same problem? and if so, share the wisdom on how to fix it!

IR worked perfectly for me. I used a Nyko wireless bar.

The camera Hack is really useful, you can take some nice screenshot if you do it well.

Is there a solution to remove HUD from the game? Maybe with a texture hack (make the HUD texture transparent) but it needs too much works.

Has 3D stopped working in Dolphin for anyone else? I think the latest beta drivers for Nvidia may be the culprit.

Does anyone know what build I should be using for Windwaker? I'm trying to enable the widescreen hack and it's just not doing anything.

Are the Mario Galaxy games playable with no sound/music bugs now? I tried last year and even a 2500k wasn't capable if I remember correctly.

Regardless I have mine OC'd to 4.2GHz now, is it possible now?

Lowest slowdown I've ran into was the last Bowser Castle, which could dip down to a low 70%. You might also notice some slowdowns in some boss fights/intesive galaxies like Shiverburn, but nothing below 80-85%.

i5-2500k @ 4.4 GHZ. If it wasn't for using the LLE plugin it would probably run at 100% constantly, but it needs LLE for music and sound to work properly.

Yo GAF, does anyone have any idea why Resident Evil 4 locks up hard every time I try to start a new game?

Menus etc are all fine, then when I start a new game I get "Loading..." for a few seconds then black screen, and Dolphin is locked up using 50% of my CPU for all time.

All the Dolphin wiki info (and everything else I can find online) says I should only get a few minor glitches with this game, NOT this much trouble!

I've tried tweaking some settings, but honestly, I'm very new to Dolphin and I don't know the ins and outs yet.

I'm running Dolphin x64 3.5-367 on an i5 3570K, 16GB RAM, HD6950. Any help is appreciated, cheers!

Just out of curiosity, is it possible to connect a gamecube controller to the PC? If so is there a specific type I would need?
Yes, but you'll need a USB adapter. The controller itself doesn't matter so long as its compatible with a regular GC.

Something like this:
http://www.play-asia.com/GC_Controller_Adapter_for_PC_USB/paOS-13-71-6m-49-en-70-4sqd.html

It's not mentioned whether it supports rumble and the reviews seem to suggest that it has sensitivity issues with the triggers, so you might want to shop around and do more research. Ebay is probably going to be your best bet at this point.

Thank you.

Hey guys. I'm having trouble with Windwaker. For some reason I'm getting a lot screen tearing when the little heat wave effect from fire happens. Has anyone ran into this and solved it?

Can someone help me. I'm playing Super Mario Galaxy 2 and the game freezes after the first grand star boss.

Is there a fix for this?

If it's like Galaxy 1, you probably need to disable sound. Do that every time you're going to pick up a grand star.

Yeap, with the benefit of fixing any kind of audio related problems but yea it is a resource hog.

Upon reading this exchange, I decided to use that option as I just got a 6c/12t 3930k. Needless to say, my performance in the game at 1080p was nearly flawless. Far less stuttering and random slowdown when performing some special attacks. Dusted off my Xenoblade copy and patched it with the 30fps patch. I would say my experience was the best I've ever had and I suspect it's more on the CPU than the SLI 670's. I also ticked the option to offload the DSP to its own core. Some pics with 4xAA, 16xAF and every little enhancement I could find.

Thanks, I might give this a shot then.

Supposedly, the HLE audio system is being massively revamped between 3.5 and 4.0. If that's the case, a lot of games that previously required massively overclocked CPUs to run with LLE will achieve similar levels of playability at a much lower barrier to entry.

I know I can run Xenoblade just fine with LLE, but I get some pretty egregious slowdown in effects-heavy battles. HLE, on the other hand, has come a long way since I started the game (pre-3.5), and sounds almost as good at double the speed. (It does crash occasionally, where LLE does not.)

Is there a way to get rid of all that blurriness?
The DoF? Yes, but why would you want to? Nintendo did a great job with it, one of the best in-game implementations yet. In motion it looks like an impressionist painting. I was more impressed with Skyward Sword's DoF than I was with The Witcher 2's that year.

I know what he means though. Nintendo did a good job with it, but Dolphin doesn't emulate it correctly so it looks sort of weird and super blurry. I'm trying to find a fix but nothings coming up yet.

It will look weird in some instances on Dolphin regardless of any settings, simply due to being rendered in a higher-than-intended resolution. It stands out in stills but still looks nice in motion (in most cases). On a typical SD display the effect renders pleasantly, due to the blur... dolphin makes it cross-hatchey and sharp.

I actually like it better alias free and cross hatchy than low res and smoothly blurred. I think I'm just gonna stick my settings, I sort of enjoy it.

Can you provide a source for this information? I've been browsing the Dolphin forums frequently and have not seen anyone mention this.

I'm trying to get F-Zero GX running the way it was pre-3.5 but now it's just running like shit. Dual Core enabled causes the game to either restart or crash, but it gives me near constant 60fps. With it disabled the game runs like ass. HLE gives me horrible audio skipping and LLE, as mentioned above, is a colossal resource hog.

I hope more than anything they fix the Dual Core bug for this game as well as the HLE issues.

is there a way to remove this paint-style blur aside from using one of the few versions of Dolphin that used to not render the effect due to some glitch?

I know that to run this emulator, Im gonna need a good CPU. Im currently trying to put together a ~$500 gaming PC build. Would an i3 be good enough for emulating Wii games? Could I go lower? Or do I need something better than an i3?
