Dolphin - Emulating Wii and Gamecube Games

Whoa can you explain a bit more about that? o.o

I add the exe to RadeonPro, enable SweetFX and use whatever settings I want, then run Dolphin. If you close a game though and want to play another one, you need to close dolphin and re-open it if you want to have sweetFX work on another game.

Oh that sounds easy enough, thanks I guess I finally have a reason to install RadeonPro :)

so, i bought super mario Galaxy 1-2
what the best configuration for both games ?
is it better on the xbox 360 controller or wii mote ?
i am playing on my laptop msi ge60
cpu: i7 3630QM 2.4 GHz
GPU: Geforce 660m GTX 2 GB
Ram: 8 GB DDR3 1600 MHz

putting the sensor on my laptop will be messy

WiiMote is better if you don't get the control freezes due to the wiimote speaker.

Also, you can just put the sensor below the screen and change the sensor bar setting.

Yay, the New AX HLE code has been merged into master:

http://code.google.com/p/dolphin-emu/source/detail?r=eb06c62a6e1f2c5b84a1a11cab269a5e81936f92

Merge branch 'new-ax-hle'

GC and Wii games using the AX UCode should now work almost perfectly with DSP
HLE. If you get any issue, make sure the "DSP on dedicated thread" option is
disabled, and try setting framelimit to "Audio".

As a side effect, DSP HLE should not desync anymore (making it usable in
netplay and TAS) with AX games.

So by chance has anyone used a Rocketfish RF-MRBTAD adapter? I cant get this thing to sync with my wii mote for nothing. This is second one I have bought and tried from amazon I am close to giving up on this.

Fixed it. Had to open services and enable the bluetooth settings kinda odd that it had turned off without ever saying.

A Dolphin developer asks for donations to purchase a phone to develop Dolphin for Android devices. Dolphin will naturally be free to download. If you're interested, check out the forum thread on the Dolphin forums and chip in!

Why is he picking a phone and not a tablet? The Nexus 10 is more powerful than the S4 and costs less. On top of that, Google I/O is happening soon where they'll probably announce an updated Nexus 10 that will have OpenGL ES3 drivers as well.

So i got Macbook Pro Retina as a gift this week, and i wonder why i can't run dolphin on max settings. Is the mac version not as good as the pc version? I have bootcamp, so can i run that version to the max settings?

First the specs would be important to know.

I'm not honestly sure if the Mac version is worse... but in general it is. Top that off with the fact that MacOS lags behind in it's implementation of OpenGL (features Dolphin uses) and it very well might be.

The one with Intel Graphics or 650M? Also it's obviously not going to render at full Retina resolution very well.

Welp, sorry about that.

Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7

Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB

So, running on windows would be best, i assume?

Well, duh. I just don't want to play it on the lowest settings. Feels like playing on my old SD tv ;p

Every time i try to bump anything up, the fps dips to 20-40.

I'm looking for a laptop to run most games on High to Ultra and also looking to play Wii and Ps2 games on the emulators HD with some bells and whistles.

As Budget I'm looking around $1000-$2000. I'm not the best noticing differences between some computers with the Graphic Cards and the Processors (Its a bit confusing at times) which is why Im asking around here.

EDIT: I'm From Puerto Rico btw don't know if that changes much.

I'm eyeing this
MSI GT Series GT70
iBUYPOWER Gamer Valkyrie

This one seems like overkill tho.
ASUS G75VX

Quoting it from the laptop thread since it seems dead.

Any recommendations would be great really.

Wanted to check if it is now posdible to play Tein Snakes without audio problems?
Also, are there HD texture packs for Wii Pikmin 1/2?

I think it depends on what hardware you have. For me i have been able to get almost 100% good audio out of TTS. There have been two cutscenes so far that the audio and video have not synced up but for the most part it is good. Check out a clip below i made to show off the audio and video from the game.

I am using DSP LLE with XAudio2 and putting the DSP on a dedicated thread. 3.5 -1178 is the version i am using. Good luck.

I'm trying to get Metroid Prime Trilogy working in Dolphin, is there anything I should know? I heard most of the issues have been solved, but when I launched it, I froze upon loading MP1 new game. Maybe It's my version of Dolphin... I'm gonna download the latest version tomorrow, but I thought it'd be nice if I knew what to expect. I also heard there was some microstuttering... Hopefully not anymore...

Is there a consensus on what the fastest build is currently? If it'd run F Zero GX without hiccups, that'd be a plus :)

The latest versions should boot the launcher fine now without the need of dol swapping.

What version did you try?

F-Zero GX is a really demanding game, so you need a decent build to run it at its full 60FPS.
There was a commit some time ago that really increased the performance in F-Zero GX, so try the latest build.

What are your specs?

Yeah I'd like to know this as well.

Is there a performance difference between this 'new' HLE and regular LLE?
Obviously. LLE is still (much) more demanding.

The new-ax-hle implementation is more demanding than the old HLE implementation due to it emulating the DSP more accurately. The old implementation was just a hacky mess.
A lot of issues have been resolved with the new implementation such as the music and audio in Tales of Symphonia for example.

Not everything will work without problems due to it still being a work in process, but most games should be playable if you can maintain the speed. I'd suggest using the OpenAL back-end if you're getting audio stuttering, etc, since it supports time-stretching.

Thanks for the info!

Another random question ( I'm thinking of downgrading to a laptop because of change in living conditions ) :

Since Dolphin only uses two cores (Does it? Because taskmanager is showing several cores being used ) what will the performance difference be between the following two processors :

ivy bridge desktop quad core clocked at 3.0 ghz
ivy bridge mobile dual core clocked at 3.0 ghz

Thanks in advance.

So, running on windows would be best, i assume?

Possibly. I believe Windows x64 is the platform that gets the most focus. Running on Windows also gives you the option to use the DX9 or DX11 backends which are often faster than the OpenGL one.

http://dolphin-emu.org/docs/faq/#which-operating-system-can-dolphin-run

Is there a consensus on what the fastest build is currently? If it'd run F Zero GX without hiccups, that'd be a plus :)

Generally the latest developer build should be the fastest (depending on what changes have been made). F-Zero GX specifically got dual core support enabled by default in 3.5-646 so you probably want a build that's newer than that. Note that F-Zero GX still has a few issues so it's still not possible to play 100% without hiccups yet.

Since Dolphin only uses two cores (Does it? Because taskmanager is showing several cores being used )

Dolphin uses up to three cores.

So uhh, anyone know how to disable the HUD in RE4 Wii edition?

If there isn't a cheat code floating around for disabling the GUI, you could try making the GUI textures transparent, Dolphin makes loading custom textures surprisingly easy. This may or may not work, some games just don't play nice with custom textures (looking at you Wind Waker).

Yeah I tried both and they were a no go.

I just couldn't find the textures for the black bars or the colored blocks of the HUD.

I'm sure it's there somewhere, but I wasn't able to find it.

I'm sure a cheat COULD be made for it, since there's one available for the gamecube version, I've just got absolutely no idea how to do it.

I like the shot with the mirrored UI floating behind Leon, though. It's very meta. This is how it looks when a video game protagonist comes at you.

You know it's weird, but I sorta like it too?

Also, I think that's one of the few instances where we've actually seen Leons face in game and it looks super weird.

The forced 3D is probably one of my absolute favorite things about Dolphin, along side the freelook command.

Cross your eyes to see the image in 3D.

I'm having some issues with my Wii remote connecting. Every time I want to connect, I have to remove the wiimote as a device from my list, then add it again. Then I have to try adding it over and over until it actually connects. I have a rocketfish mini bluetooth which is supposed to be compatible.

Any ideas?

Also, I want to reconfigure some controls for Skyward Sword. I want to move nunchuck shake to C, that way I can roll and use the shield without having arbitrary motion controls. I'd move first person look to something like left or right on the d-pad. How should I go about that?

It's funny, whenever anyone brings up Dolphin's implementation of 3D Vision I feel so guilty, it's easily one of the most hacky things I've ever coded. The DirectX 9 plugin being marked as deprecated has seriously lifted a weight off my shoulders, because now I'm not meant to fix it.

Ohhh man, what exactly does that mean? Just no further developments on it? If you guys removed DX9 support, and thus 3D, I think I would cry. It works so astoundingly in so many games, and it combined with freelook makes an awesomely immersive experience exploring worlds in 3D.

I'm actually kind of against the DirectX 9 plugin being depreciated, but since I've only made maybe 4 or 5 commits I wouldn't have much say in that decision. But yeah it pretty much means that no new features will be targeted at the DirectX 9 plugin, I assume that the devs will try to keep it functional as long as possible but focus will be applied to the other plugins.

If the DirectX 9 plugin isn't kept functional, I may try to keep it working until the DX11 is up to the same compatibility as the DX9 plugin. Unfortunately, some of the Dolphin developers make changes that go so far above my head that I'm not sure I could stay up to date for long.

As a side note, I'm currently away from my main computer and have no 3D Vision capable equipment with me (on a AMD laptop) so I can't test if this still works but a while back the DirectX 11 plugin did work in 3D Vision without any hacks if I disabled my secondary monitor.

Yeah for a while that used to work on both DirectX 9 and 11, then around the beginning of the year it stopped working. It might have been a result of an Nvidia update.

I submitted a bug report about it but it hasn't been fixed. The weird thing is that on very rare, seemingly sporadic occasions, it will suddenly work again. One time, I launched a game without the 3D Vision toggle turned on in Dolphin, and it booted straight into 3D mode. I alt+tabbed out to make sure I didn't accidentally leave the option on, and Dolphin didn't crash/the option wasn't enabled.

It sucks that it doesn't seem to work like that anymore, but I'm more than happy with how it is now.

That's a shame. The difficult part for Nvidia is that as far as I know, windowed 3D support has to work via profiles and it's probably quite hard for them to keep up with the constant update cycle of an open project like Dolphin. The reason that the DX9 3D Vision hack works is that it forces Dolphin to run in "exclusive" full screen mode, which allows the Nvidia driver to more easily detect Dolphin. Honestly, I could probably make a similar hack for DX11 if the Nvidia driver works the same for DX11 applications...

The ideal solution would be for Nvidia to allow non-Nvidia developers to create these profiles but it doesn't seem like that's likely to happen. I've asked on the forums but they only seemed interested in implementing it themselves, which is surprisingly nice of them, but it means that it'll break quite often.

I've just bought a new laptop, and though in general it's pretty powerful I'm not sure if the cpu is fast enough. I know that Dolphin isn't as reliant on gpu's, but I'm also not sure that the one that came with mine is strong enough. Before I go ripping my discs, can someone tell me if it's worth it with this computer?

You can emulate games perfectly with that CPU, but stuff like AA makes things a bit more complicate. I *think* I can run Super Mario Sunshine on 30 FPS with 2x AA with that CPU, but anything above that compromises the FPS.

Would you or anyone as part of the dolphin team be able to just upload a custom profile made with Nvidia Inspector that anyone could download and use?

If you're unaware what Nvidia inspector is, it lets you create a profile, and allows you to choose what programs are attached to it. It also has an option to export or import profiles so they can be easily shared.

My laptop has an i7 2670 2.2 GHz/560m/8 GB, and runs my games just fine (That i have tried so far. Klonoa Wii, Galaxy 2 and Kirby Wii).

Though I could just barely maintain 60 fps at 1080p, so if you want to play at higher resolutions, you might want to look for a more powerful GPU than 635m.

Don't wanna start a flame war with anyone but can anyone help me with AMD vs Intel? About to retire my old rig and in most PC games its give and take on who is faster so its mute. I do remember intel being faster in Dolphin (and PCSX2) but this was gosh 3 years ago.

So if i'm upgrading to I go AM3+ (steamroller is gonna be AM3+ right? so easy upgrade) or Haswel (Who knows about upgrades) if emulation the last concern

Intel is still better. I think it has to do with single-threaded performance being better.

Save yourself the trouble and go Intel. My 2100 keeps up with a Phenom II X4 BE easily.
