Dolphin - Emulating Wii and Gamecube Games

Of course. I'm taking about the the emulator. I went to the website and downloaded the rar but didn't get much passed that point because I couldn't figure out what to do from there. I'm guessing there are instructions somewhere but I can't figure it out now since I'm not in my house at the moment.

I'm assuming you mean the .7z file as Dolphin downloads aren't distrusted as .rar files (make sure you download it here). After that you will want to get 7-Zip to extract the .7z file and then run Dolphin.exe in the resulting folder.

I was more alarmed by the playing for the first time. How can you have the game and not have played it yet? It's a disgrace to society!

My Steam backlog is sorry to disagree with you.

As well as my modest Wii U backlog: ZombiU and Bayo 1+2.

Seriously, there's no need to bait.

Hmm, yeah should'nt have said that. Wasn't my actual purpose to bait, but I was under pretty big fever and was feeling pretty 'aggressive'.

After building my new PC the stable version works fine, but the dev versions I try keep crashing at startup, feels bad.

Going to try a dev version from more than a month ago now, and hope for the best. Any reason people might know this is happening?

EDIT: Well 4843 works so I'll stick with this one and try my luck later.

So, a question.
Is it possible for two persons to play (for example) Mario Kart online, like on LAN.
If so, are there any instructions how?

I have heard about netplay, but not to that great extent, is it servicable?

Dolphin Bar working like a dream. Always was a bit put off getting controller configs working and was a nightmare trying normal bluetooth. Now I might actually start using this.

Not sure how easy it is to swap, but presuming you're keeping the Dolphin Bar in the same area as the Wii sensor, you should be able to get rid of it as long as you the DB has power via whatever you plugged its' USB cable into.

You can either perma sync or temp sync to the DB, so I imagine if you just use temp sync it should not be a huge issue to swap back and forth.

What version of Dolphin are you running? Dolphin is refusing to recognize my Wiimote as a real wiimote with dolphin bar right now. I'm running the latest dev build.

Tried the 60fps hack on Mario Sunshine yesterday and it ran beautifully. I'm sure it's been discussed elsewhere but is there a way to get the sound to run at regular speed rather than 60fps?

you need to download a specific build, that breaks any game not using the 60fps hack.

Is there a recommended build and settings for F-Zero GX, I tried the latest one but it resets game, and the are some shadow bugs :/ .

EDIT.
Lol just saw the same question on the 270-th page, I'll try the older build.

So, any help would be appreciated. Using the development build, I can not for the life of me get it to recognize my XBOX360 in game. It recognizes it in the menu and I can remap all the buttons but it refuses to work in game. Works perfectly on older builds on Dolphin (3.0 for example).

Also, trying to use the HD texture pack for Xenoblade, and I can't get that to work for me either. I guess I'm meant to see a different Splash/Start Screen, but I do not.

Could it be a matter of having too many copies of Dolphin? I've got the 3.0 version that works in one folder and the latest development version in another.

I don't know what's going on with the latest builds of Dolphin, but I can't even get Sonic Colors to run smoothly. Using the latest 4.0.2 on an i5 4670k @ 4.3, GTX 680, 8GB ram.

For GC games, make sure that Player 1 is set to "Standard Controller." or else the controller won't be "plugged in."

4.0.2 is old. The latest build as of this post is 4.0-5762.

Also, if you're upgrading from an older version of Dolphin, try to restore your settings to default. I'm on a phone so I can't link to the exact procedure of how to do that.

Damn numbering schemes lol. Let me give that a shot. I forgot, but how do I go about saving controller profiles? Also, was there not a way to have per-game controller layouts?

This is the screen I see. Each I have downloaded the latest build, and I get the same (are there settings created somewhere where all the builds read from - because I didn't have to adjust anything).

Controller settings are saved in Documents > Dolphin Emulator. What game are you trying to play where this setup doesn't work? In case you're making this mistake most Wii games don't support GameCube controllers.

Just trying to Xenoblade up and running. It was running on what I'm guessing is a non-developer build of 3.0 (found it in a Xenoblade thread here on NG), along with the XBOX360 controller (although it doesn't actually say GameCube Controller, just Dolphin GCPad Configuration).

Mostly I am just trying to use these HD texture packs, which require a build higher than what I was using. Just can't seem to get anything to work (the emulated Wiimote works).

Also, the only way I was able to get a folder in MyDocuments was when I actually installed a stable build. Otherwise it wasn't there.

First of all there's pretty much no reason to be using 3.0 unless you're using some really outdated hardware. It's almost four years old at this point and there's been a ton of improvements to the emulator since then. Try out the latest development build instead. For the controller what you want to do is set up an emulated Wiimote with the classic controller extension. I don't know why GCube pad even worked before as Xenoblade doesn't have GameCube controller support.

I am/was using the latest build. I was using an older build as that was what was suggested to use in a recent post on these forums that gave good performance for XB. On that one, I'm not sure if it was an actual GameCube controller that was being emulated (never actually said it), so I think that was where the confusion was coming from.

I actually thought about using the WiiMote, and totally forgot about the Classic Controller.

Now everything seems to be working (did have to swap A & B, can't get used to the Japanese "Select/Cancel" scheme).

Which build and settings did you use? I've tried getting F-Zero GX to run well multiple times but I kept getting weird FPS issues.

That could be shader cache issues. Stick the to one version and play the game for a bit. Stutter should disappear over time as it caches all the shaders.

The most important thing that i have found with F Zero is the option : Enable dual core --> off
When I had it on, it always reseted the game, couldn't even pass the intro.

And to be honest, this build works best for me, from GC to Wii games.
Also, I'm running it on laptop if it helps somehow :D.

@OmegaMan thank you man, I really appreciate it :D.

I'm running F-Zero on a laptop as well.
If you want you can right-click F-Zero --> Properties, and uncheck "Enable Dual-Core" so that only F-Zero doesn't use dual-core while every other game uses the default Dolphin settings (dualcore enabled).
An alternative fix I found that allows you to keep dual-core was to check "Synchronize GPU Thread". The Emulation State comment in the properties even suggests using this option.

Thanks! Will try these out over the weekend. I've been dying for some 1080p GX.

What settings are you guys using to enable the controller and the mouse as the pointer? The controller I prefer to use has no analog sticks but has an amazing D-Pad. I can't launch Wii Punch Out because of this stupid issue.

I'm trying to rip my Wii games using CleanRip. No matter what I do though, whether I use a FAT32 or NSFT device, USB or SD to rip games to, Wii or WiiU to rip games with, everytime I try to extract my files to one iso it always tells me "the archive is either in unknown format or damaged". Gamecube games don't give me this issue. What am I doing wrong? Is there another game ripper I can use that potentially won't give me this issue? I just wanna play my Wii games on Dolphin :(
