Pretty ironic having a Wii emulator be the only way to actually play a Metal Gear game in full HD.

Still incredible having this sort of thing available during the Wii's lifetime. Even seeing GC games running with all these tweaks impresses me, and Dolphin's been around so long I thought I was done being blown away by it.

Are you unaware of PCSX2? Sons of Liberty also has a PC version... It wouldn't be ironic if what you said were true either.
Yes I thought about that after posting. Should be more of a blanket statement regarding emulators.

I actually wasn't aware Sons of Liberty had a PC version.

Is there any way to copy a Wii save to Dolphin? I feel like 100%ing Donkey Kong on Dolphin :D.
Copy the save to an SD card, Wii options - data management - Wii (I think? I don't have a Wii to check)
Connect SD card to PC
Start Dolphin and go to "Tools" then "Wii Save Import"
Open SD card\private\wii\title\4 lettered folder\data.bin

IIRC, the highest resolution for MGS1 on the PC was 1024x768, not HD in my book, which is pretty much impossible nowadays because modern videocards aren't supported and it defaults to software mode which is limited to 640x480. It did look pretty nice back in the day though.

MGS2 PC was one of the most frustrating ports I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. It actually did go up to HD resolutions, but had some graphical issues at launch and it was annoying as hell try to bind the games controls properly.

...is that a ZOE poster on the top left ?
Is it,? I remember in MGS on PS1 it was a Policenauts poster, in The Twin Snakes its something else. If it is ZOE I'd imagine it's because the ame is somehow connecte dto Kojima?

There's even a brief cinematic in The Twin Snakes when Otacon mentions "japanimation" and i believe its from that poster as well... :D

Is that possible to do with a GCN save?

I really love the crew developing for Dolphin. It feels like they are really improving it each day.
They have, just 12 days ago MGS was unplayable for me, the game would crash every time I entered or exited the codec...

I moved to a build that is about 48 ours old from this post, and that crippling bug was solved and performance increased over all of my games by about 5%.

I do wonder if they fixed the game breaking bug at the end of Twin Snakes yet. With the FIFO overhaul going on now, it wouldn't surprise me :lol

I remember seeing some screenshots of twilight princess with hi-res custom textures.
Was that ever released? or is it being worked on at all?

is it worth emulating wii games without it's controller?

As a wii player who don't have a pc that can run even megaman 9 on dolphin, my guess is that most yes ... except for games more focused on the pointer+controles like Mario Galaxy and Metroid prime 3.

Praticaly pointer only games like Swords and Soldiers, World of Goo and Pro Evolution Soccer can be played normaly with a mouse and a keyboard ... theoricaly

man, so there's no fix for this is there?

Yeah I just got past that level and it's dungeon, I dont think you encounter that heatwave effect anymore throughout the game... I tried a couple different settings but nothing worked,

On the bright side, I figured out enable the lens flare from the Sun and removing the distant blur effect the game has as well.
:lol

I felt incredibly accomplished when I finished the game.

I'm gonna go use Cuban's config and play a little MGS now I think :D
I'll be in mumble if anything, Playing a bit of SSX3 while i take a break from MGS:TTS :D

you didn't know how to disable the dof effect?
how do you do the sun, though? hadn't heard of that
DOF was fixed with the New Zelda Twilight Princess Bloom Hack, and the Sun Flares were enabled by turning on "Enable CPU Access".

Just came across Octagon's shots a few pages back, but damn. Good stuff.

I've often thought that my childhood memories of Mario as being rather nostalgic, but these days, it's almost as if...he's turning Japanese.

Well either that, or he's droppin' a deuce in the kiddie pool. Hide yo kids, hide yo wife, etc.

You know how huge Brawl was back in the day with taking pictures? We should revive that now that we have Dolphin.

This please! I'd love to play Brawl at 1080p but I probably won't be upgrading my desktop until April at the earliest.

Twin Snakes kinda looks like Substance on PC. The clean look on a high resolution is crazy. Wish more developers went that route.

i'm thinking of selling my wii to fund a computer to purely emulate wii

how do u think this will fair:
i3-550 (specs if u dont want to google is: 3.2ghz, 4mb l3 cache, 2core +HT)
with 4gb ram
and 5670

i'm on e6600, 2.4ghz, 2gb ram, and 5670 (on 4x cuz shitty mobo)
tested some games, for ex, i can get mario galaxy to run at 10-20 fps if i remember correctly

not gonna be running at high res, but at least 720p, maybe 1600x900

(planning on just borrowing friend's wii to rip any game before anyone asks)

I wouldn't sell my Wii. What many people here that post their pretty screenshots don't tell you is there are still many games with borked audio. I refuse to play DKCR on Dolphin because of all the audio issues.

Has someone spec'd out the cheapest possible PC build capable of playing Dolphin at an acceptable framerate, including price?

I've become increasingly excited by the prospect of playing this, but I don't want to get too carried away with my hopes for performance. I have a new computer incoming on monday with the following specs out of the box:

INTEL CORE I5 760 2.80GHZ 8MB
GIGABYTE RADEON HD6870
and CORSAIR 4GB DDR3 1600MHZ

My screen's native res will be 1680 x 1050, but I'm also probably gonna output it to my older HDTV running at 1366 x 768. So those are the resolutions that'll be the most relevant.

So give it to me harsh truth style, how well will stuff run?

Should run decent enough, I have a 860 and at stock speeds I can run a great amount of games just fine. If you can give it some extra juice though (say to 3.5 Ghz),you really shouldn't have that many problems.

I am really excited by the work that has gone into the FIFO and the LLE audio plugin the past few days :)

Excellent! Thanks for putting my mind at ease.

I might crank it up some if I get a new cooler for the cpu, I'm not sure how much I dare tinker with the stock one.
