Dolphin - Emulating Wii and Gamecube Games

Huh.

I didn't think Dolphin worked on a Mac...but it does, and it does well!

I put in Wind Waker and had it running 1080p 4xAA and it looked great.

I have no way to play it at the moment...but still...nice to know I have the option.

I just started using WiiJi to use the CC as a HID joystick. Haven't used it with Dolphin, but its worth trying.

Just wanted to let anyone that was also having the button delay with DKCR I fixed the issue by using LLE audio. Thought I'd post that because I always hated never finding out the answer to something because the person never responds back after they fix it for themselves.

:O what mac? I didn't even consider this option...

I tried that, it seemed to improve the button lag at first, but after a couple of minutes the controls went back to being laggy again :/ Weird.

I'm running on an 8-Core Mac Pro...but it's running smoothly.

There's the software.

QUESTION ABOUT CLASSIC CONTROLLER on a Mac. I can get the D-Pad working, but not the sticks in Dolphin. Any idea?

EDIT

Hmm...seems to just be working now.

WTF. But only DOWN on the C-Stick.

I will figure it out.

lol "fullscreen" is so poor. Widescreen is the now.
I'm okay with a little anachronism for the sake of an unstretched HUD and no weirdness brought on by expanding the game's intended FoV. Black bars are my friends.

Sorry for my previous fucking ugly screenshots ~
I try to reupload the new jpg (png to 90%-jpg)
How about this...

The quality is better though I don't know if your hosting is compressing the images or what.

Anyways, is that displaying right or are those characters just funny looking?

The images are being stretched. He needs to enable force 16:9.

Ok, I finally wanted to give this a shot. The problem is the emulator won't recognize any of my game discs. I have a harddrive that I use for USBloader that has my games on that as well, but my computer wants to format it to whatever format it uses. Is there anyway to get around this problem? I'm just trying to get this things set up so that when Xenoblade shows up I can play it in glorious HD. Also, how does SSBB run on this thing?

I take it your games are in .wbfs format? Download a program called WBFS_file to convert them back to .iso. *rereads* NVM, if your HD is in .wbfs format then I don't know how you can move your games off of it before reformating. Worst comes to worst, you can just format your HD to FAT or NTFS, but you'll lose all your data and you'll have to dump all your games over again.

Synless said:
Thanks, I actually went ahead and reformatted to my computers format and now USB loader won't install anything unless I go back to WBFS. I'm not sure what the deal is, but I will try that program you linked.

You'll have to re-rip your games at this point =/

I know that configurable usb loader will read a drive formatted as ntfs or fat32.. maybe try it that way.. either way you'll have to rip your games again since you formatted the drive.

Yeah, thats what I was saying, but for some reason it won't install my games at ntfs format, so I had to bring it back to wbfs in order for my games to install. I wish I would have waited just a few more minutes before I reformatted, this is going to take forever to reinstall all my games.

Edit* Sweet, it is all working now. Ok, I am running a Windows 7 on a macbook pro. It has
Intel Core i7 2.2GHz quad-core
4GB 1333MHz
750GB 5400-rpm1
Intel HD Graphics 3000
AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 1GB GDDR5

Is this good enough to run anything well? Rather, what settings should I use to play games like SSBB?

I've been trying to get this thing to work all night, but no luck.

I've been hyped for PSO2 and I wanted to go back and play some Episode 3 and take some screens. Ripping the image was a breeze, since I've done this before but I can't actually get the emulator to work.

I'm running Windows 7 x64 and my card is a GeForce GTX 460.

Anyone else experiencing any issues? I can't even get the latest version to run.

I have very similar specs and can run most games well. But i'm also overclocking the shit out of everything.

Are you running Dolphin 3.0 or one of the nightly SVN builds? What kind of CPU do you have? While having a nice video card certainly doesn't hurt, Dolphin is more CPU than GPU dependent. Realistically, you need a modern dual core or better CPU running at least 3.0 GHz, and the closer to 4 GHz or beyond, the better. Intel CPUs tend to perform better, but you can can get decent performance with a good AMD CPU. Post your CPU specs and which version/build of Dolphin you're using.

I've got an Intel Core i5 Quad-Core 2.80GHz and running 4 gigs of RAM.

I'm not overclocking anything because I'm not pro.

I'm running the v3.0 build.

fake edit: While doing some browsing I just realized the problem may be because I need to update DirectX

Nope. Keep getting this error: http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh108/SuperAngelo64/error.png

Unfortunately, it looks like the NTSC version of PSO Episode 3 is screwed up. The PAL version is supposed to play perfectly, but the NTSC version hangs. Major bummer. I actually own the game as well, but I haven't had a chance to rip it and give it a try. I've been busy playing through the Tales games.

Bah.. maybe I can find the PAL one for cheap on Amazon. Thanks for the heads up though, I've been racking my brain since 11pm (it's now 4:50am).

I would check the Dolphin forums before shelling out money for a PAL copy. It's possible that you might get it to work with different settings or by using one of the nightly builds. I just did a quick search and I found other people were having the same issues you're having. The last email in the chain was a year old, so it's possible that there's been some progress made and I just missed it.

I'm listening.

Sorry, should have provided links:

Followed this guy's write up to get it working:

I apologize that I can't verify that it works well with the emulator. I just lurk here for the screenies. I can attest to it working neatly enough, I've used it with Nestopia and Spiral Knights with little fuss.

The one issue is that its possible for the OS to grab the device before WiiJi does, in which case I just have to disconnect and resync. Its the only solution I've found so far that recognizes the analogue sticks.

My Laptop sucks -_-
AMD Athlon Dual Core 1.70 GHz
2GB Ram

It runs Naruto 4 on perfect speed and Melee almost full speed but that's about it the rest its crap. (I dont mind HD visuals I want to be able to play the games on decent speed) Prolly end up buying when I have budget a new computer.

So I need a little general advice. Been wanting to try this for a while and I finally got around to ripping some GC games.

I followed all the advice in the OP and this was probably the easiest emulator I've ever had to setup. Having a few issues with the two games I'm trying out though.

REmake is running well for the most part, it looks like there is some ghosting to just about any movement. I fiddled around with different resolutions, internal resolutions and AA/AF. I realize forcing a game to run outside it's natural environment can have some effects, but is this normal?

The second game I tried was the Wind Waker. This game looks fine visually, but it seems to be running incredibly choppy even though FPS are at 30.

EDIT: Actually, REmake also feels choppy even though it's always reading 30 (and 60 for doors).

i5-760 @ 3.8ghz, 580gtx, 4gb of ram.

I like 16:10 (1440X900)

It's just making the game deliberately look incorrect by stretching the image. At the very least it's worth going back in post to stretch it back to the correct aspect ratio, otherwise it's giving the impression it's the fault of the emulator.

Just got Super Mario Galaxy working perfectly on my setup, shit's amazing. No More Heroes runs at a poor framerate though, specifically on the overworld. Is this normal? SMG is much more resource intensive, I'd assume.

for the i5-2500kers in the thread, i dont see the point of overclocking cpu, as my stock 2500k runs SMG2 and brawl 99% of the time at 60fps (no AA, but i can turn on MLAA and change that percentage to 98%) at 1080p
(by this more of a gpu issue)

now, of course you play other games, but what i'm trying to get at is that you dont need to overclock your 2500k to play on dolphin

Heh, thanks.

I had googled it and figured it out. But thanks for the help!

Do you also use LLE? I don't have a 2500k, I'm just wondering

Hmm... this is weird. I had to reformat my PC because my motherboard network port was fried after a lighting storm the other day and since then all my games run horribly when they ran great before.

I was getting 60fps almost all the time in SMG 1 and 2 with AA off, now I can't crack 30fps no matter what resolution I put the game on.

Mario Kart Wii ran 60fps 100% of the time now it hovers around 40fps.

I'm really at a loss here, because even though I replaced the motherboard it is the same model and all my other components are the exact same with the same drivers, etc.

I updated to the newest revision and just in case it was something that didn't agree with my system there I downgraded the the revision I was using before 7671, same thing. I've tweaked everything I can think to tweak with no success. Anyone have any ideas as to what could have caused my drop in performance?

I've also downloaded DirectX and VC++2005, 2008 and 2010

Specs:
Intel Core i5-2500K Processor (OC @ 4.5Ghz)
Corsair Vengeance Blu 8 GB PC3-12800 1600mHz DDR3
EVGA GeForce GTX 570 Superclocked
ASUS P8P67 LE LGA 1155 SATA 6Gbps and USB 3.0 Supported Intel P67 DDR3 2200 ATX Motherboard
