Dolphin - Emulating Wii and Gamecube Games

Can we please not start a witch hunt, you're making a lot of assumptions about people with your first sentence alone...
It's not an asumption. It's a reality we have witnessed in emulators threads. And even if it didn't happen, in the end is about human nature. It's pretty safe to know what type of use are given to these emulators. For example, back in the GBA/DS days, people justified the use of flash cards because NIntendo didn't have the option for users to play their legitimally owned copies without the need to carry the entire library around. It was a convenience thing. Yet, now a days these cards are popular in the 3DS still.

However, there's no need for paranoia. No one is starting witch hunts since i refrained to comment on specific posters and even when the posters exposed themselves i did not comment in anyway.

In the end there's no need to get upset, if we aren't doing anything harmful, when the topic is brought up. XD

Edit: To avoid consufions, "majority of users" in general, not in this thread specifically.

The problem is, this argument is a continuing cycle that does not contribute anything to a thread about the development of Dolphin.

Why not take it elsewhere? I swear, almost every emulation thread falls victim to a select few bringing in this argument, and it sidetracks the fuck out of discussion until a mod comes in to hand out bans and settle things.

And rinse and repeat. It's a pain in the sodding arse.

Start a new thread about the ethics of emulation and take your points to there. Not here.

The things is, you fall in the minority. Most people that use the emulator don't do that.

Going farther, someone could have a vast Wii collection and still download ROMs for game he might not own.

Even in this very thread from time to time you see guys that kind of let slip that they are donwloading the games and probably haven't owned a Wii console (let alone games)

Is commendable that there are people, like in your case, that emulate games they own. On the other hand it doesn't bother me if someone comes questioning the use of emulators either. More so in this day and age when the existance of new games of these type could be reaching it's end.

Wrong thread.

I need to try the new Ishiiruka build!

I like how the texture scaling I implemented for PPSSPP a while back showed up in quite a few additional emulators, and it's always amusing how it's usually a 1:1 port without thinking much about the individual options. E.g. the (very silly) deposterization algorithm I implemented was designed to combat an artifact introduced specifically by a type of texture compression common on PSP - I doubt it really applies in most Wii games.

We have mods on record that threads about specific emulators are not the place to accuse people using them of piracy, or discuss the morality of emulation in general.

Got myself finally a Dolphin Bar, will try it out tonight together with 5.0. Can finally properly play SMG.

And the discussion about many people apparently pirating games is pointless. Many people illegally download music and movies too, should we question the use of media players? The fact is that emulators perform functions the original system can't do, and people use it mostly for that function. And that's what this thread is about. I love to play better versions of great games I already own.

i didn't brought up the topic.

i like the thread for the nice screen caps, however i don't feel defensive when someone mentions the fair use topic.

But i fully agree, let's move on XD

I can vouch for it. Just tried it and the 'Fast EFB access' is glorious! Without it my FPS in SMG drops from 60 to 27!

I think it works even better than 'Skip EFB Access from CPU'.

I have these settings on, plus FXAA:

How do I get fast esb access option? This is what Dolphin shows me when go to enhancements:

One of these days I'll get a dolphin bar, just because turning on my Wii to power the bar and fighting between PS3 and Wii controllers on my blutooth adapter is such a pain...

I honestly want to get back to Skyward Sword, I was probably 80% through the game last I played, and that was before all of the massive speed ups (had pretty bad slow downs at night in skyloft and a few other places I'm willing to bet work a lot better now)

These re my laptop's specs, any settings I should set to for best visuals and performance?
GTX GeForce 770M
Intel Core i7-4700HQ CPU @ 2.4 GHz
16 GB RAM

EDIT: I should add I hadn't gotten any other gfx plugins for Dolphin, I just got 5.0 straight from the site :x

I ran Dolphin with a i7 5500U. I saw speed improvements in Little King Story compared to the old one. Paper Mario also didn't suffer as much when you're entering the arena with hundreds of characters on screen.

Last friday I went with my gf to one of her friend's house and told the guy to install Dolphin 5.0 and play some smash brawl and kirby RTDM so 4 people can play at a time. I didn't touch a single graphical configuration and it worked perfectly, 1080p 60fps with four players at the same time.

I know smash brawl has always worked relatively fine but still, it was amazing.

I'm confused how its legal to emulate Nintendo games like this? Isn't it depriving Nintendo or profit as well as the best games of all time being played on machines that have no right to run them?

If you own a certain type of LG Disk drive you can just put your Wii disk directly into your computer

Hello, could you recommend me a cheap laptop for Dolphin and PCSX2 ?
Thanks !

Any laptop will do nowadays, but if you want to fluidly play games, look for a non-low power Intel processor. Those are marked with U or Y so you want a H if you can afford one. I don't know what you think is a cheap laptop though. At least try to stay away from the Core m-series, they have very low clock speeds which Dolphin doesn't like. Try to look for a seperate graphics card, even if it's a lower number it's a lot better for Dolphin due to better driver support, Intel Graphics are really shitty for emulators.

The best thing for Dolphin is still building a desktop if you want the best on the cheapest way possible. There's a Intel Pentium processor with a very high clock speeds that's ideal for Dolphin, and I've seen some emulator-only builds for $250 total, without peripherals of course.

PCSX2 should never be a problem, that thing runs on toasters.

A few days ago I heard about the DolphinBar, and got it last night.

Gotta say, pretty impressed with how well it works! I didn't have a bluetooth adapter on my PC for using actual Wiimotes, and this seemed like a great option.

It came with 3M adhesive which I used to place on top of my monitor. Plugged it in, made sure firmware was up to date and set it to mode 4 which is the mode to use for Dolphin. Then I just sync'ed the controller like normal and pushed the "A" button to turn the controller on and it was done! The controller vibrates when Dolphin makes the connection, and it works great in games, but the Dolphin Controller settings page claims it can't find a bluetooth device. Maybe that's just because of the way DolphinBar works (bypasses the Windows bluetooth stack and the bar sends its data directly to Dolphin).

Tested with both SMG2 and Skyward Sword. Both worked exactly like you'd expect. So good to play these games with native controls but at 1440p resolution!

I've got a Wii and some various bits but I'm thinking about going out and getting a dedicated controller for emulation. Would it be best to get the WiiU Classic Pro (or whatever it is called). Would hope to use across the full range of Nintendo titles.

How is Splinter Cell: Double Agent GC or Wii version running on dolphin? I have only played the PC version and since I heard that the "old" gen versions are actually superior, I was thinking getting the game on ebay. But if it runs on dolphin like crap, then it's a no buy.

What does the GAF say?

Getting a weird issue with Resident Evil 2 and 3 - regardless of the aspect ratio settings they both seem to be slightly squashed horizontally, almost like 5:4 instead of 4:3. Anyone else encountered this?

I use a Wii U pro controller as my default PC gamepad connected via Bluetooth as a 360 pad with Wiinusoft. Works flawlessly.

Get the OG XBOX version, runs flawlessly on the 360 and looks way better.

I actually enjoyed it more than Chaos Theory.

Just started using Dolphin for the first time on a gaming rig. Playing through Paper Mario TTYD with the HD texture pack and 16:9 Gecko codes...damn this is nice. I've had 0 issues with it so far, just had to make sure everything was tweaked right before starting. Very impressed.

Also felt like I justified my GC adapter for Wii U purchase since I've finally used it outside of Smash 4.

So how do you have the GC adaptor hooked up?

I have a general (but probably broad) question here. Since I have built a new PC recently, I have jumped into Dolphin emulation and really impressed with it so far. Being able to boot GameCube games and Wii right on PC, and use the original controllers (including GameCube with the Wii U adapter) is very, very awesome.

I have seen some very impressive screenshots of games running in the latest build of Dolphin, and would like to emulate that quality on my end. Is there a guide, or a website, etc that people have uploaded their game specific settings to achieve such amazing results?

Is it still possible to change the banner/game title info on the game list in 5.0?

I found this video that explains how to do it but for whatever reason it just doesn't seem to work with 5.0.

The GameCube editor still works perfectly but any information that is changed in the Hex editor for Wii games just never seems to get updated in the games list no matter how many times I clear the cache or refresh the list.

It's a very minor problem that doesn't effect the function of the emulator but it would be nice to have each game titled correctly.

Try the latest, the last one, 706.

Sorry for bringing this up again but I got a new laptop and installed Dolphin and IshiIruka on it. I don't see the Fast ESB option when I run IshiIruka, are there any plugins I need to install first?

Are you sure you're using the ishiiruka build? You don't need to install anything else.

Just got a wiimote and nunchuck so I can play Wii games on PC. I just turn my Wii U on so the sensor bar works. At some point I should buy the wireless sensor bar.

Where can I find good X360 controller profiles?
I want to emulate Wii Mote (Horizontal) and the Classic Controller with X360 pad, but manually it's kind hard.

Holy shit Mario Galaxy 2 with HD Texture pack in 3D IS FUCKING INCREDIBLE!!!! I'm playing it on an Oled TV in side by side mode and it's almost exactly like playing Lucky's Tale in the Oculus Rift, except its one of the greatest games of all time. I'm playing through the whole game this way,it just feels like its made for 3D. The transitions between worlds when Mario is flying are breathtaking. I was shouting wow! wow! for 10 minutes.

Also, anyone getting like random one or two frame drops in games (in 2d)? It seems to happen at random, my fps will go from 60 to 57 and will cause a stutter no matter what resolution I run it in. My GPU and CPU are never running at higher than 20% and 40% respectively so resources isn't the problem.

Hmmm. Any reason my Super Mario Galaxy is getting bad framerate drops? Any specific settings that I should avoid or add? Or maybe it typically does have drops for most people? I guess I could get a new video card eventually...

I was having some weird slowdown when I looked at a certain part of the backdrop at first. I don't know if it just smoothed out over time (dolphin does that), or if switching to the Ishiiruka build really fixed things. I'm using DX12 and "Fast EFB Access" (under Hacks).

Thanks, I'll try Ishiiruka Dolphin and see if that works. Might also grab the HD texture pack though that might just add more slowdown... hue.
