The UK is "doing great" following its vote to leave the EU, US President-elect Donald Trump has said.

In his first UK interview, with former justice secretary Michael Gove for the Times, Mr Trump said he thought the UK was "so smart in getting out".

Mr Trump promised a quick trade deal between the US and the UK after he takes office in five days time.

He also criticised Nato and German Chancellor Angela Merkel's immigration policies.

Mr Trump spoke to the Times and German newspaper Bild ahead of his inauguration on Friday.

"Trump said Brexit is going to happen, and it happened. Everybody thought I was crazy," the president-elect continued.

"Obama said, 'They'll go to the back of the line,' and then he had to retract his statement."

Mr Trump added: "Countries want their own identity and the UK wanted its own identity, but I do think if they hadn't been forced to take in all of the refugees than you wouldn't have a Brexit."

I wonder if anybody told him that the UK hasn't actually Brexited yet. That they're still part of the EU.

To bring non-UKers up to speed, Michael Gove was one of the leads of the Brexit campaign (including the £350 million lie) and was the one who said "people have had enough of experts". He then stabbed his Brexit partner Boris Johnson in the back to try and be PM and every other member of his party proceeded to stab him in the front.

Yeah no we aren't, the pound dropped and hasn't recovered, racist attack rose after the referendum with some European folks feeling unwelcome in the UK.

Oh and we got a new PM despite no-one in the UK voting for her and she is awful.

This is a bit of a mischaracterisation of what he was saying, though. His point wasn't "let's stop listening to doctors and scientists", it was that all those 3-letter economic institutions kept getting their predictions wrong and people were sick of being told what's good for them by these people that kept fucking up. Arguably still not wise, but that sentiment has now been charactitured into "hur dur we don't need clever people".

Yep! All we did is vote to leave at A point in future, and our currency is already fucked. Think what amazing tho b.s. await us once we actually leave!

Well, at least we have all the best people working to get this sorted. David Davis. Theresa "brexit means brexit" May, Boris Johnson. The best people, with the best plans. Plans so good that we're all fucked if they ever told us what they are.

Getting rid of all my EU citizen/employee rights will be the icing on the cake.
