Make me listen to a terrible Europe song if old.

I know there's a lot to hate about Donald Trump, but isn't hating him for saluting a former president on what would have been his 250th birthday a reach?

Unfortunately I'm inclined to agree that most if not all presidents would likely have made some sort of positive statement.

This is a tad on the glowing side, though. I can assure you Donald Trump has no idea what Andrew Jackson's "legacy" was aside from being on the $20 bill.

Wouldn't be shocked if he didn't know who Andrew Jackson is period

I know there's a lot to hate about Donald Drumpf, but isn't hating him for saluting a former president on what would have been his 250th birthday a reach?

No.

Counter-question: Would you be fine with a future president saluting Donald Drumpf on, say, his 100th birthday?

Fantastic singer, my favorite of the Jackson 5. Michael is overrated!

The thread title should have given you a hint on the type of person Andrew Jackson was when he was alive.

No.

Ya'll need to lay off the Drumpf thing already.

It just comes across annoying and kinda pathetic

In defense of Jackson, he did win the Spanish war and was a huge war hero. That's why he was on the 20 dollar bill. I feel many people are not aware of this.

As far as why pissbaby pay homage to him, he was the first populist president and his direct spiritual predecessor.

maybe im misremembering this months long nightmare but I thought he hung andrew jacksons portrait back up and loves to be compared to him

Andrew Jackson was one of the single worst presidents who ever fucking lived.

I'm not.

You don't think President Obama would have had some kind of PR statement for the 250th birthday of a very consequential president?

I mean, it wouldn't have had hashtags and emojis, but come on. There would have been a fluff piece of some sort. At best you might have had some vaguely worded pledge about affirming Native American rights, maybe.

I don't know, Andrew Jackson seems like exactly the sort of man that Donald Trump wishes he was and tries to present himself as. On one hand, a manly man who lets his opponent take the first shot in the duel and cuts the bullets out of his body when the meeting gets boring. On the other hand, a guy responsible for the death of lot of non-whites.

This is a stretch, and it's Trump basically trolling people who want to get outraged over anything. That people are falling for the troll job proves the point.

Hateful piece of shit who doesn't deserve to be remembered. Andrew Jackson was awful too.

What's a stretch? Trump barely even mentioned tragedies like the shootings in Quebec City and Oklahoma. Here he makes a point to publicize his worship of a man who committed genocide.

No one cares about 250th birthdays, no.

This is him deliberately making a show of it to bring up a piece of crap that Trump admires explicitly because of the things that make him a piece of crap.

If there was any doubt left that Trump is a racist white supremacist piece of shit, let it be doused forever.

He may as well brought David Duke with him.

Exactly, he makes that point to goat people into reacting to inconsequential shit like a current president recognizing the 250th Birthday of a former president, and one that has largely only been exceedingly unpopular until recently. Not that there isn't every reason for Jackson to be unpopular, whether it be for his brutal, racist policy towards Native Americans or that he's very well a raucus racist, or towards his opposition to Hamiltonian monetary policy, but this is classic bait, just like the 2005 tax return bait from last night. The White House is baiting people into being reactionary in order to then dismiss legitimate issues or distract from the legitimate failures of this administration (not coincidentally, Trump's healthcare bill is going over like a lead ballon and a federal court just struck down his revised travel ban).

It also shouldn't surprise anyone that Trump is a fan of Andrew Jackson, and as much as we all hate Donald Trump (Which I do, with a burning, aggressive passion), he very likely reveres what Jackson is most well known for: being an outsider, populist who did not fit the traditional American political stereotypes, just as Trump is.

Though, of course, when I was growing up, Alexander Hamilton was the bad guy.

I don't think that it's a coincidence that Trump tweets this an hour after the failed travel ban order was rejected, again, in Federal Court.

Goad.

And what, because he did a dickhead thing on purpose people aren't supposed to comment on it? Because... reasons?

I don't get the point you're trying to make.

Our dipshit president did something dipshit like making a show of celebrating the 250th birthday of one of the single worst President the union's ever had.

Even if I agreed with you on the inconsequentiality of this act (and I don't) it's not as if reacting to inconsequential shit isn't the reason most of us are members of this messageboard.

So what's the point you're trying to make here, man?

I think the point is that Donald Trump is doing this shit to distract his own base from the harsh reality of his fucked up health plan, and all his other anti-poor people strategies.

It's not about distracting liberals. It's about distracting his own stupid-ass voters.

By saluting symbols of racism and white supremacy (Andrew Jackson), he's causing a stir in the media again.

Instead of the low-income, non-college-educated white people seeing that he's fucking them over with his policies, they're getting caught up defending Trump's anti-diversity smoke screens.

I agree, we can't ignore this horrible shit Trump does, but at the same time it's important to point out to everyone WHY this asshole President is doing these strategically controversial things. It's all a distraction from the reality of his REAL agenda.

That wall Donald want's to erect between America and Mexico is a macrocosm of the financial-entitlement wall he wants to put up between wealthy Americans and poor Americans.

As a nickname in his post it was fine, but the fact that he also edited that other guys quote to "Drumpf" really took it over the edge lol

Bruh, I have a plugin that changes Trump to Dump. (so after I post this it will look like "Dump to Dump" to me) I am over the edge. lol.

But it's just funny to see everything say "Donald Dump". Or "President Dump".

It makes perfect sense for Trump.

Andrew Jackson was the founder of the Democratic Party, which after the Civil Rights movement would change into the modern day Republican Party.
