Done with Anime?

Got back into it after watching a bunch of stuff on the 2012 neogaf top list.

Subbed to crunchyroll the other day for Flowers of Evil, Space Brothers, Hunter x Hunter, Attack on Titan, Gargantia and Gintama.

This post makes no sense at all. It makes it sound like you, somehow, were forced into a particular community, and forced to consume what they consume.
What does the community have to do with the enjoyment of the medium? I'm sure it was a hard struggle to escape your prison camp or whatever.

Particular community? Try the anime fandom.
Seriously, go to GAF's Anime or Manga thread. It's the same wherever you go in fact. Moe this, kawaii, that, waifu this, smut shit that. If I wanted to have a decent conversation about a particular series, maybe one or two people would reply before the talk gets buried in "who's the best tsundere? Generic moe character with pink hair no.6328303 or generic moe character with blue hair no.7393093"
And because I like discussing and debating stories, it does have a lot to do with my enjoyment of the medium. Is it really any surprise I've been turned off by the genre when the people who actively talk about it are mostly fans of the very things I hate?

And just a heads ups guys, I have watched stuff other than Shonen. Bebop and Champloo being prime examples. Admittedly, I will probably go back and watch these series again and again, but that's because they broke the mold. I didn't feel like I was watching the same tropey characters just put into different situations like I do with most anime. However, I HAVE grown out of the medium, and I'm tired of tracking down shows that are as good as these. Sure, I could ask Anime GAF for some advice, but seeing as the majority have moe avatars? I don't really trust their opinions.
I'm just turning my back on the medium as a whole. I don't care if I miss "good" series'.

The last few years "everything was Moe" I still enjoy a few shows but nothing like back in the day.

I miss this style so much

I haven't watched Anime in 5 years until i discovered Idolm@ster this year. For some reason that show just clicked with me and is one of my favorite shows. Now i started watching some anime's. Hanasaku Iroha, Fate Zero and attack on titans. I can't believe how much awesome stuff i have missed these couple of years.

iDOLM@STER is pretty good, good choice. Have you watched K-ON?

There has been some more good stuff like Steins;Gate, Madoka Magica and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

I haven't watched K-on yet i am planning to do a K-On run during my summer break. I heard it was about tea parties and stuff :lol but what i loved about Imas was that it wasn't really the standard High School setting but real professional girls doing some cute things and some people hated the slow part but i really LOVED how we got to see their average life and their rise to stardom.

I was wondering i played the Steins; Gate VN is the anime any different or must watch if you played the game? I really did love the game though. And thanks for the other tips i will check them out.

You should also check out Hyouka and Tamako Market.

2003-2007:
Samurai Champloo, FMA, GITS stand alone complex, Musishi, Planetes, Seirei no moribito, Monster, Paranoia Agent.

Golden age of anime series (and probably i'm forgetting a few ones more from that years).

If you really enjoyed the VN then it's probably worth watching. I enjoyed both very much :D

Ok, so they have moe avatars means they can't be trusted? Nice generalising there and a insight on how ignorant and narrow minded you are.

Don't judge a book by it's cover.

lmfao

You should also check out Hyouka and Tamako Market.

I am really Intrerested in Hyouka i love a good detective serie definitely gonna check that one out soon.

Also OMG OMG OMG they did a full adaption of the Full Metal Alchemist manga series? i need to check this out right now i am hyped as fuck!!!!

Yeah because we don't have exposure to 50 title per season like today, its just the same for any media.

You think you don't have such like Tyler Perry movies every time in cinemas?
Or horrible sitcom/TV?
In the end there's only few legit stuff.

Btw you're right 80's anime movie/OVA are the shit.

Watch those OP.

I think I have grown out of new anime. I haven't seen any new show (on ANN or in topics here) since Vampire Knight where I thought, I want to see this, and Vampire Knight is already five year old.

In terms of Anime taste? No, they can't.
That'd be like asking a Twilight forum which Shakespeare novel is best.
Your analogy is terrible. People only can choose to post with one avatar on this forum. You might as well say that people with basketball player avatars can't be trusted with opinions on other sports, or people with game avatars can only be trusted with opinions in that one genre.

The argument that there are so much more "moe crap" now is just as silly as saying there is more crime now than before. Because of internet and stuff we just get more exposure.

Also some people in here seem to be deadly afraid of cute things.

Judging from your avatar you are a fan of Yoshitaka Amano so you would probably be at least interested in Tori no uta.

It's really only barely animated, but it's also amazing Amano art 100% of the time and has a great atmosphere to it. Then again I post in the GAF anime/manga threads so I probably can't be trusted.

You'd rather dig your head in the sand and drown out the naysayers when you might find something you enjoy?

Why would you want to deprive yourself of some kind of enjoyable experience because it takes a little effort? There are plenty of good shows out there, probably about the same amount as before, we just are exposed to all of the tripe now too.

I think there is some selective forgetfulness that during the 90's-early 2000's, most of the things we got were the tried and true items that were already popular in Japan. In the year 2013, with widespread internet/streaming/releases, we now have access to just about everything that they have. The good and the chaff.

Probably the biggest surprise I got anime wise for a good year or two. I only saw it last week ( took me 3 days, couldn't stop watching ) because neither the poster or plot summary got me interested ( seemed like just another K-on like anime ).

Proof that I should not judge so easily what could be interesting without even trying to actually see an episode.

Honestly, I don't care if people label me as narrow-minded. I've been on this forum long enough to know the guys with Moe avatars annoy me, thus why would I value their opinions when they have a bias to the very thing I hate?
Or is the guy trying to sell me on K-ON a few posts above when this very thread is about how I hate modern Moe shite not proof enough?

More annoyed than afraid. You can only take so much "KYAAAAAA!" before your ready to call it quits.

I'm glad you watched it and enjoyed it. It is a truly great show.

Sell you on K-ON? Lol, I tried to sell other people on it. You just asked if I said it was good, which I did.
