Dota 2 Shanghai Major 2016 (March 2-6): Double Rainbowj

How are majors relevant for participating in TI6? Are only major winners directly qualified?
No, basically Valve is just hosting/sponsoring 4 events a year now. Doing well in one major will likely help you get invited to the next one, but there is currently no guarantee.

The majors do have $3 million prize pools, and a $1.1 Million grand prize, so there is a ton of motivation to qualify and do well.

Liquid is actually one of the qualifier teams, I believe 4 of the top 8 teams came in though the qualifiers.

Pretty sure placing top 4(maybe even 6) at Manila is going to an auto direct invite to TI6. Given that even Alliance with their WCA win got the direct invite to the Major.

Valve decides with their own undisclosed metrics - total prize money, first place in LAN's, team stability, and international LAN performance are thought to be major factors in getting a direct invite.

But they could revamp the entire system: 18 teams (10 direct invite/4 Regional Qualifiers/4 Wild Cards)

SEA and NA are traditionally weak compared to China and EU so we'll have to see what happens

Sheever's great and all, but she's so out of her depth on the panel. Every question she asks the rest of the casters are just like, "um where are you going with that?"

Secret's got this.

i wanna enter the cold palace
no idea what cold palace means, chinese players have their own way of saying every hero

What is it with tourney finals and these blowout matches?

I feel like the superior team will have had enough information from the tournament playing out to just consistently outdraft their opponents. Best of 5 format helps eliminate potential error in the results of these outdrafts. From recent tournaments, it just now seems evident that the 'superior team' is able to more adequately identify the flaws in the playstyle of their opponents rather quickly and are able to test their theories before the match has literally even begun.
